Nah with Akuma you can spend 1 hour and you just do tatsu into dp and u win gaems just mash sweep its really ez hue hue.
I just look at it this way whenever someone calls a character dumb/braindead/cheap/stupid=they have tools that don’t suck.
Both characters have strong tools and that is why they’ll get hate. Cammy just seems to get more due that string of majors she won. People will always be salty about characters, they just need to hold that L.
Both Akuma and Cammy are really strong. Instead of trying to justify why your character is less “braindead” than what it seems, just play the game. Let the haters hate.
every character has good tools but also have a lacking area, so why should any character be well rounded and also be good at rushing?
nah its too hard to have a discussion, lets just “play the game” or say “huhu just AA when she jump and block da mixups durr”
Characters shouldn’t be well rounded and good at rushing. I’m all for discussion, but people here don’t want to create a discussion. Instead a bunch of people just came in and say Cammy is braindead. Of course Cammy mains are going to try to defend their character.
Saying a character doesn’t play “street fighter” is one of the dumbest things i regularly see people say about characters like Viper, Fuerte etc, theres no such thing as that, i would like to know what a true “street fighter” character is because there’s no such thing, is Vega in SF2 a true “SF” character hes one of the originators of the vortex style game play, old Ryu in Sf2, the character that everyone considered the truest “SF” character that just does random tatsus on a character like Viper does with burn kick for a chance that it might be a unblockable i guess he isn’t a SF character, saying a character isn’t a true SF character is just an excuse against vortex characters, also guess what cross up are originally glitches, if by using cross ups i guess we aren’t playing “SF” anymore.
also lol@
“Akuma-style mixup where it’s very binary between the different options and near totally human-controlled so there is something you can read at least (due to it needing a few repetitions to kill).”
Great mixup huh, demon flip mixups for alot of characters that pretty much have deal with every option a character and no way to counter attack has and forced to block or eat an unblockable depending on the setup is such a near totally human controlled mixup, i pretty much inclined to believe your just one of the bandwagon hate club that arised as soon as 2012 hit when she was rated top 5 character, its funny with people hating on characters as soon as they hit top tier status and just because of the style game play “wah seth, viper, cammy, akuma” need to nerf vortex, then you have a character like Fei long for example and have the same people hate on him, one of the few strong characters that rely on footsies, people just like to look for reasons, as soon as those characters get nerfed another bandwagon hate club will be made for another character, i can guarantee a character like Gouken his mixups are praised by people, but if someone starts winning tournaments with him i can guarantee people will talk about how dumb and brain dead his vortex is.
-_-’
I did say that Akuma can indeed be dumb. Prime example is vs. Balrog whose every proactive wakeup option gets shutdown by flip palm os sweep as far as I understand. Just saying that in the cases where the defender isn’t completely incapable of defending the mixup, it is better to have Akuma-style mixups than Viper-style. The rest, whatever. I don’t hate Fei. Fei is entertaining enough. I don’t hate vortexes - Akuma and Ibuki for example are both very strong and vortex-oriented, yet both lack the fundamental frustration exemplified by Fuerte and to a lesser extent Seth and Viper. They play a neutral game that feels like Street Fighter and isn’t just an exercise in frustration.
Cammy out of the vortex characters has to really play footsies to start her vortex whereas Akuma pretty much heavily revolves around landing that one sweep and go flipping around like a crazed monkey, main reason i never really bothered to touch Cammy is that she has to play turtly for an offensive character and shes boring to me because of that, also back to the matter of playing like a “SF” character, footsies was style created to play SF2 to maximize winning potential, also vortex existed at the same time with Vega, people have the misconception that SF is purely suppose to be footsie game when it never has, if it was every character would play like Ryu and there would be no advancement to the series characters and that would be boring.
This is officially the worst thing I’ve ever read in my life.
lololol I love SRK
38 characters don’t play Street Fighter, since Cody is the only one. It’s quite fraudulent since he’s from Final Fight.
Not saying that cammy is braindead, but Akuma’s vortex is definitely harder to learn. If you want to actually do it properly and be safe against reversals it’s very difficult and character specific. Cammy doesn’t even do a real vortex, you just whiff st.lk and then either j.lk or divekick. You can’t count that hooligan throw nonsense because its a gimmick and good players will punish you on reaction. A good akuma vortex is safe against reversals, covers escapes with option selects, and can hit high/low/left/right or air throw. Cammy is just left/right (or unblockable :P)
At top level play, cammy’s pressure isn’t really worse than a character like cody or sakura. All three characters do high damage, and rely heavily on throw/frametrap mixups. But the difference is that cody/sakura have to walk forward, put themselves at risk, and have excellent timing for their frame traps to be effective. It takes a lot of practice and skill even to beat a mediocre opponent doing jabs and crouch techs, but once you get the timing down it’s very strong pressure. Cammy can do the same thing with much less practice/effort because pretty much nothing beats ex-CS except reversals, it’s almost impossible to mess up so your timing doesn’t really matter. even without meter, she has some of the best normals in the game to frame trap with. At low to intermediate skill levels, you might jab a cody or sakura out of their frame trap, but good luck trying to hit cammy out of her ex-CS
There are other small quicks about the character that makes it easy to dislike. Cammy is one the few characters in the game that has an abnormal wakeup timing, which screws up many setups (ie, ryu’s safejump after a sweep does not work against cammy). Cammy has one of the best backdashes in the game (20 frames) which makes her safe against many option selects (especially if she focus-dashes). Cammy’s uppercut travels really far and is difficult for many characters to punish unless blocked. Cammy has gimmicks like those hooligan throw setups, etc. Cammy does extremely high damage and can win rounds off of 1-2 lucky guesses
You have no idea of what you are talking about. Any simple os back jump vs whiffed spike = max punish by any character.
If ex strike is not TK’d / low … its free focus. And can be aa’d (cammy player must commit to it).
Strike/jlk oki has always been part of her game… since vanilla. Nothing new.
Do you know what you’re talking about? Every character can OS back jump? You use focus and antiairs against cammy blockstring pressure? You don’t want to revise those statements?
Anyway youre missing the point. Please quote where I said cammy is too strong, or has no counters. I never said you cant beat cammy, its just easy to dislike the character. No ones going to miss punishing a sagat uppercut, but plenty of ppl miss punishes on predictable ex-divekicks and whiffed cammy uppercuts (including people like daigo)
Ssh, I can think of a theoretical counter so EX Dorkstrike is ok.
dealing with EX Strike is the least of your worries if you cant punish cannon spike.
HK Spike = Active 31f, Recovery 17+12 after landing and -30 on block!!!
Why are you being so defensive? A lot of characters rely on “safe” jumps that make reversals whiff. Against those setups, an uppercut like ryu’s or sagat’s are easy to punish, but characters like yun/adon/cammy are harder to punish. Players like daigo, gamerbee, sako, etc all abuse those horizontal DPs to escape or force their opponents to do difficult OSes. If top 8 evo players miss punishes against cammy’s uppercut then its obviously not “free”
For example, sakura needs to run ambiguous jumps on cammy’s wakeup. Most of these setups are not meaty so cammy can just uppercut to escape. (corner setups and throw setups are different). The only reliable OS that hits is jumpin -> OS hp.shouken, which is easy to mess up and only does like 30 dmg if it hits. However, if cammy backdashes instead, hp.shouken gets blocked for a 400+ dmg punish (only lp.shouken is fast enough to hit backdash). But lp.shouken doesnt reach cammys uppercut. Its not a good situation
you don’t know what you are talking about.
Sakuras OS lp shouken beats backdash and recovers BEFORE Cammys whiffed Spike. you still have alot of time to punish it.
Thats only on specific setups
Also, maybe you should actually try it. Even on the setups where it works, its not a free punish, you have to practice it
I lost two fights when my adon missed the knee part of his K version super on a crouching cammy. Fix this top tier madness capcom!!
