^ One useful matchup tip against Cammy: Down back. Don’t push buttons. Backdash when you see she’s spamming Dive kicks.
I agree on saying that Cammy is S-tier (and I personally believe that anybody denying that is lying to himself, as it is a general opinion a lot of top players agreed on ), I agree on saying she’s extremely hard to deal with, but instead of spending so much time complaining, I spent this time in training mode and found useful setups, unblockables, and stuff to try to have arguments against her.
Most of the people here are continuously “but Cammy is OP!!! godtier shit!!!” and then can’t even deal with escaping a Cannon strike and come to complain “I can’t do anything against dive kicks!” while they are still mashing crouch tech without using their brains.
Learn what Cammy’s setups are after a throw. Then, just don’t crouch tech and escape her wakeup option. It’s still a risk for you, but still lower than crouch technig to counter hit to 400 damage/600 stun combo.
Why is it that everyone’s response to when a character becomes good they should just be ‘removed from the game’? People said it about Yun, they said it about Zero and Wesker, now it’s Cammy.
Akuma is about as good as Cammy. The difference is that Akuma is hard to play and made of paper (Not terribly hard execution wise, but unforgiving of mistakes and needs lots of character-specific knowledge and good timing due to low active frames on normals), plus a lot of what he does is still relatively fair. He just has a lot of tools so is always in the game and can abuse opposing characters’ design flaws, usually poor wakeup. (You can for example do an option select that beats every proactive thing Balrog does on wakeup) But you have to get the opponent down first with pretty standard footsies. (Relatively Ryu-like ones, too, so people know what to do)
It’s a far cry from ex cannonstrike => combo => repeat. Cammy is just a freight train that runs you over. Still needs decent spacing and reads esp. if going in with Spiral Arrow, but being top2 AND easy kinda gets you hated.
Obviously this ex strike is unblockable and not a free focus. This air pelican mixup is some OP shit jump hk, jump strike, jump ex strike, empty jump. Also… What is anti air.?? Or wakeup block?? Or wakeup focus dash??
The joke is that he was paid? to do wakeup ultra and aa ultra lol 1 vs cammy. When since 2009 this has never worked. You would think of all akuma players… HE should know better.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter necessarily that it’s cammy. People are going to hate whatever character is supposedly “cheap” for whatever reason. Remember everyone hating Fei ? He wasn’t on the vanilla Sagat / AE yun level. People hate fuerte and he’s not even considered a high tier character (unless you ask iperu, but he thinks every matchup is in fuertes favor lol). A lot of people hate fighting Honda, and guile too. Why ? They all have things that are abuseable, just like cammy. Take guile for example. He doesn’t have the ambiguity that cammy does, or the mixup options that she has, but he doesn’t need it. His defensive capabilities are where he gets his damage. There are a shit ton of characters who have a really hard time with that matchup inherently, let alone the player themself.
That being said, I can understand why someone losing because they guessed wrong would be salty. Honestly, I would much rather lose to a guile or Honda or sim who is keeping me out and shutting my attempts down. At least I can learn from that and integrate what I learn and change how I approach things. With mixup characters it’s a 50/50 option…you either guess right or you don’t. There’s not a lot of learning that can be done from that.
Cammy is a very solid character, definitely. Personally, I put her number 5 possibly even number six on my tier list though, with a big MAYBE to Adon edging her out.
Cammy’s also the type of get in button rushdown that is just boring to me. Like, nothing wrong with aggression, but I’d prefer it to be more Ryu style carefully prying someone open than EX CS into combo style. It’s kinda similar to how burnkicks are annoying. Feels like it’s pure chance, when it could be more, say, Akuma-style mixup where it’s very binary between the different options and near totally human-controlled so there is something you can read at least (due to it needing a few repetitions to kill). Elf I hate because he just doesn’t play Street Fighter. I bought the game to play Street Fighter, not play Counter Spastic Luchadore.
Cammy Top 2, whether she or Akuma is better is up to opinion. I lean towards Cammy because she’s braindead and a bully.
I disagree ^^. Though definitely true in some matchups or situations where you can just bruteforce people. (Guile for example, or Rog on knockdown and the like)
You need to practice a lot to get a good vortex with Gouki.
With cammy, what? One hour? Okay, one day max, and you can eat the opponent brain without any setup: crossup LK, strikes, EX strikes etc… If you take one other day to learn setup, you’ll learn unblockable dive, and dive crossup, bitch plz
