like people who use 3 buttons in their frame trap and usually the third button leaves a bigger gap and then i press a button and get a counter hit combo on defense because i labbed that frame trap pattern.
@mobbdeep Yeah that video is exactly the kind of mindset you want to take when figuring out someone’s block string as far as when to attack or when to defend. The more you play an opponent the more match up specific knowledge will come into play.
Here’s an example I just faced while playing regarding when to attack or defend during a string. I was playing a Laura the other day that kept walking back after I would end a string with cr mp (ie st lk, cr lp, st lp, cr mp or cr mp, cr mp), so I started doing cr mk after the cr mp to catch her walk back, but this was exactly what the Laura player wanted as she was trying to set me up for a st mk into v-trigger. See in the grand scheme of the match taking a cr mk xx SA combo does minimal damage to a Laura player and the follow up will either result in the same or similar string or a grab which again is minimal damage and resets the neutral, but her st mk into v-trigger will net her huge damage followed by crazy mix-ups into stun so baiting this cr mk after a blocked cr mp is worth it for her. The reason why she wanted me to do the cr mk at the end of the string is because her st mk will counter hit my cr mk after a blocked cr mp, so all she had to do was wait for that cr mp and then hit st mk instead of walking back. After getting hit by this in round 1 I realized what she was doing and in the second round when she had V-trigger I switched to cr mp, st hp instead which beats the st mk because of priority. I was so confident it would work that I didn’t even confirm it into SA I just did it. Knowing when to defend or attack during a string is important part of the game and is something that requires a lot of research and practice. There’s still so many setups I’m not sure how to deal with in this game and with every new character added it’s just more and more you need to know.
BTW I miss those videos. I’m kind of bummed there isn’t one Cammy match up video out there while others characters have anti Cammy videos. I’ve been wanting to make a few myself but it’s hard to find the time.
best advice i can give is lab it like watch your replay of your match and see how many buttons they put into the string if they put more then two normals into the frame trap u can punish because of the pushback if u just block see what your options as far
as pressing buttons like a special move or normal.
Hello Cammy experts (and Cammy fans in general)! So after going over various SFV tier list, I notice that the top tier characters (such as Akuma, Ibuki, Laura, Karin Urien and Balrog) are all capable of utilizing mix-ups and resets to make opponents guess 50/50 on what they’ll do next, or to reset the damage scaling from a combo.
Akuma has his V-Trigger Zanku Hadoken after knockdown, Ibuki has her bombs paired with her EX kunai. Laura has her V-Skill Dash after an EX Thunder Clap during Crush Counter or Stun, Karin has her command dash after popping opponents in the air, Urien has his limitless options and combos with his Agnes Reflector, and Balrog in V-Trigger inserts fear into the opponents’ minds.
With that being said, I’m wondering if anyone knows any potential resets or mix-ups for Cammy. I’m only familiar with one. If she lands an EX Cannon Strike (or if she lands a Crush Counter on an airborne opponent,) she follows up with a St.Lk or St.Lp. From there, she dashes underneath for a reset combo or throw. The problem is that a lot of good players are aware of this reset. So when she dashes underneath, they respond by blocking the other way and ready to tech her throw.
Does anyone else know any other resets or mix-ups for Cammy?
Well when I think of resets, I think of using a move that makes your opponents go back to a neutral standing position, instead of falling on their backs. So for example, when Cammy hits her EX Cannon Strike, by hitting St.Lk or St.Lp at the right moment will not only hit her opponent, but they will return to a neutral standing position. Whereas if you hit them with a Cannon Spike or Spiral Arrow after the EX Cannon Strike, that will be the combo ender. Does that help?
On what Tierlist is Laura Top Tier, haven’t seen her at any Tierlist beeing higher than High, most have her at mid. Akuma is generaly a good character, but I feel he’s currently just high rated because Tokido is doing work.
Last time I checked Top 5 it was. Ibuki,Rashid,Necalli, Balrog, Karin (with Cammy at 6 or 7)
Ibuki comes from her bunch of tools and ability to steal rounds.
Rashid is just a good character with low damage.
Necalli is Necalli
Balrog hits like a truck
Karin is overrated, but is a footsies character (with shit AA’s)
Urien has basicly nothing for him outside of:
Spam st.hp in the neutral
Aegis to steal rounds
Random EX Shoulder from Fullscreen
Thanks for the info Cipher. Perhaps that was my thinking as to why these characters are top tier: the ability to steal rounds. And each of those characters you mentioned has the potential to do all of that.
All of those you mentioned all have comeback potential, allowing players to steal rounds after their opponent did a majority of the work in the round. And that’s why many players (myself included regrettably) believe that’s what’s keeping poor Cammy out of the top 5. She doesn’t have that comeback potential that allows you to steal rounds.
The example you gave with the dash under after an EX dive kick or B+mp is really Cammy’s only good mixup and is why so many people know how to avoid it. She’s not a mix up character. She’s supposed to get her damage from shimmy setups and frame trap confirms utilizing her v-trigger and CA to close out rounds. I have seen players like Osayu who try to fake the dash under though. When he hits with st lk after a EX dive kick he’ll walk forward a little bit making the opponent think he is going to dash under and then he doesn’t (it’s really hard to tell which side they’ll land on). Since they are so used to holding the other way after that setup they get caught. Once they catch on he then switches back to doing the dash under. The dash is fairly quick so it’s more a read than a reaction, but it’s not as good as a true 50/50 as you can still tech a grab or block it. It’s probably the dirtiest trick she has to be honest, but a lot of other characters can do the same thing.
I do know of one crazy mix up/reset that is probably Cammy’s most damaging setup but it’s very situational and not the easiest to pull off. It’s St HK (CC), dash, B+mp, V-Trigger, B+mp, St Hk, EX Hooligan, instant dive kick, instant st lp, dash under, 1 frame walk forward, st mp, st hp xx SA, EX DP… It’s like 600 something damage and 900 something stun.
As for hooligan setups/mix-ups none of them are legitimate as you have to know exactly how the opponent is going to wake up to get the value and even then the value isn’t better than the alternative of just doing a normal walk up meaty. Maybe if the opponent had to block the dive kick high or it was faster it might be viable, but you’re basically throwing away your oki and leaving yourself open to being jabbed out of the air when you go for one of those hooligan setups.
@SunTzu81 yo i found some tech well not really per say but it’s new to me when people jump in instead of anti airing u can blow them up for trying to do something that is not a real frame trap on block.
like just block the string and use a jab to counter hit them and u get a free combo.
