Yeah just learn to be patient and aa everything. You will beat 90% of people this way. 5% of the rest will be good players and the other 5% will be r mikas who don’t let you get up
FYI dickens-goers: there is currently only one monitor here
I’ll bring over a monitor. How many consoles are we at?
I don’t think all characters have godlike antiairs, most do though!
Nash and laura have shitty antiairs compared to chun, sim or gief etc. Maybe nash isnt the best example, his antiairs are just different depending on your spacing in oppose to chun just hitting st. Lk
For Laura like they said just block and use v reversal more. It sucks that you say against necalli though because he has crazy good corner pressure. You can also just wake up jab since its 3 frames if hes doing his command grab a lot?
801 Strider is probably the only good Laura right now you can check his stream when he’s playing: http://www.twitch.tv/ 801strider
Power to the people!
Mika’s anti-air (cr.mp) only works at very specific ranges. Since it moves her forward just slightly it’s very susceptible to being crossed up. I find that I have to block alot of jump-ins because I’ll hesitate and im not quite sure of the range. And eating a jump-in in this game is bruuuuutal.
Also necalli seems so top-tier it’s not even funny. Best uppercut in the game, 3 frame jabs, overhead move, crazy fast dash, super good long range pokes, safe specials that lead to more damage if they hit, easy ass hit confirms, frame traps for days… and a command throw…? Hes basically evil-ryu with no execution requirement and a command throw.
unless you’re in the corner or you have a pretty scary command grab (gief, mika), i still don’t really see the problem with just blocking out meaties. throws end all serious pressure and you’re out of there against many characters.
midscreen against a non-command grab character i have not felt overwhelmed by the offense in this game yet in the sense that this character’s pressure never ends (hit-and-run style offense can feel tough but that’s not the same type of thing, that’s more sf4 rose stuff). idk maybe i’m nutso
re: necalli, he has some strong tools and is very good in the corner but all his stomps are negative (except HK which is really slow and never combos, that’s 0 on block and loses to reaction reversals or mash jab). even EX stomp is -2 and necalli either has to do some risky DP or just block if you press jab. you can tell which is the light version as well, that’s -4 and strictly punishable unless he does it at the absolute tip, at which case both of you are out of range for anything meaningful
also, MK stomp (the one that leads to cr.MP xx rush) only combos off a heavy attack or a counterhit medium and he needs to be really, really close to link cr.MP. if he tries counterhitting you in footsies with cr.MK into stomp, he won’t be in range to continue the combo, and MK stomp is -2 so his turn is over if you block.
imo once people learn “oh i just press jab here and he either DPs me or has to block?” i think his value will go down a bit.
still scary in the corner though
this is the type of game that nemo would really like, by the way, because he is really good at making you feel like he’s a crazy man and will do anything
putting yourself at -2 and then DPing exactly when you press a button and continuing the pressure with some wacky walk-up fierce or something when you don’t is exactly nemo’s style
rashid will be a great character for him, he can do spinning mixer (-2) and then do reversal or not, he also has good movement and rolento-style goofball mixups, i think he’ll like him a lot
daigo also said “this game feels like poker in some ways, you have to take a risk” and i think he means you have to DP/reversal when you are at minus frames on your offense, because so much offense is minus in this game that you probably have to force people to respect you at minus frames somehow. can’t just fold to every raise (ie, mash jab when you block a -2 move), have to fight back with something risky yourself
cool arbiter from halo is the next season 3 character for killer instinct
this trailer is really cool, especially if you like halo (you can hear the classic halo theme in the music)
and that stage looks amazing, puts SFV’s really weak stages to shame
Once Daigo said that i immediately thought this would be good for Sam
That’s cool that KI get’s all these third party characters
Got 5 setups. If you’re coming, bring sticks
Goddamn killer instinct why do you look so awesome all the time?
ki will be, imo, a really good primary/secondary game next to sfv
they are pretty different styles… sfv is quite a bit more deliberate, subdued and ground-based, while ki is high-octane and really stressful (but, of course, lots of fun because of that)
so if you have both games in your arsenal you can play whichever one you “feel like” that day depending on your mood, they complement each other well, but they kind of follow “street fighter rules” so you’re not too far out of your element no matter which you pick
ki is also free to try, so no harm in dipping in to see if it’s something you like. PC version and season 3 launches in march sometime (probably late march).
if i picked up KI i’d just try that spooky nippon girl with the naginata
she’s makoto with better pokes, basically, one of her supers goes through projectiles so she’s harder to zone, and she has a gouken-esque high/low catch counter move that starts a combo
but her main gameplan is makoto, super fast dash, terrible walk speed, scary command throws
i should have known some dank meme would derail all my effortz
Re: Using jabs on wakeup vs Necalli: Yeah I did try that, but he must have saw when I was getting panicked and caught me with his command grab. Definitely agree that hes top tier, along with Chun and Bison. Although I am very happy that the tiers in this game seem prettu condensed; no one is “bad”, its just down to matchups
