Clearly it’s a typo since I spelled it properly in the previous comment. I will hound your grammar until you die now. It had better be flawless.
All this talk about building a PC has me interested. On average, how much would I be looking at to build something decent?
depends what you think is decent… all maxed settings, 60 fps at 1440p I’d say about $1,600. 2160p more like $2k.
maxed settings in most games, high in the rest, rock solid at 1080p you can do for about $1,000 now
60 fps is for console plebs
fogers guide to pc gaming
step 1)
get a 144 hz monitor like http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX44025
u might be saying well tyler why would I spend $300 and…LET ME STOP YOU THERE. this is easily the best upgrade out there right now for gaming, free. 144 hz monitors are so godlike it will make regular computing feel strangely slow and shitty
step 2)
intel + NVidia. like pb&j, these two were meant for eachother
step 3)
get an unlocked intel i5 or i7 and a stock intel watercooler kit. most motherboards make overclocking so easy babies could do it and a stock intel watercooler will cool your cpu enough that you can save a few hundred bones on this alone
step 4)
don’t go overboard on your psu. just because a 1300w psu sounds a lot more powerful than a 650 or 700w, doesn’t really mean shit. your electricity bill is about the only thing this will effect
step 5)
buy top of the line last gen. its about half the price of the current top of the line and better than current gen mid-range components for about the same price. obviously do some homework but that’s a decent rule of thumb
something decent from absolute scratch should be anywhere from 1800~2200
and by decent I mean “really fuckin good without it a being ridiculous e-peen machine”
$300 best, free?
IMHO a entry computer that is still good is $800-$1200 just on hardware for the PC. Monitor, peripherals etc all extra. It costs a big premium to be on the bleeding edge and I dont think its worth it.
Also anyone going to gigabonk tonight from the downtown area that would give me a lift?
yes sir, fray as fuck
I’m not sure if I’m gonna go tonight. 11pm start is pretty late. I’ll be going back and forth if on yes or no for a while here.
Are solid state drives the standard now, or do people still just install their OS on there because they’re so comparatively expensive for more storage?
I bought 2 of those monitors when i saw them come out tyler lol
They’re legit as fuck.
I actually bought one, tried to dual monitor with my old evo monitor and went and bought the second a few hours later lol
Rare footage of my computer setup
Spoiler
I’ve got one of those and 2 evo monitors
for people wondering what its like:
imagine ur buried to the hilt in a girl w/ a rubber on
take rubber off
keep going
that’s 144 hz
and yeah mike ssd is for OS and whatever critical apps you have, platter drive for storage
SSDs have come down a ton in price, no point getting a 120 anymore when 250s are only maybe 20 or 30 more. you can get 500s for under 300 sometimes
they are absolutely essential for your OS and most used apps/games
SSD’s are must. You don’t want to be the fool that loads into the server last.
so leonard nimoy passed away as i’m sure you all know by now
but his twitter has been retweeting messages about his death (no doubt a family member or some PR firm that controlled his twitter)
https://twitter.com/TheRealNimoy
i can’t be the only person who finds this incredibly weird
doubt many 83 year old dudes have a strong twitter game or ever actually use it themselves. I’m not surprised lol
i don’t find it odd that it may not have actually been leonard nimoy doing all the tweeting on that account
i find it really strange that the twitter account is still active, actively sharing condolences about his death
it just feels really creepy to see someone talk about their own death like that
almost just waiting for a “yep, i’m dead, thanks for all the responses people! heaven is great, hope you all visit” type of post
there’s not even, like… a transitional post (as far as i can see), where a family member steps in and says “this is leonard’s daughter, we are very sad to see our loving father pass away”, which then makes sense that the family would start retweeting condolences
it’s just business as usual on the nimoy twitter so, while it’s very clearly someone else doing it, it doesn’t really “feel” like it.
man that guy has got a great speaking voice. I could listen to him talk for hours
Some of these guys seem to be getting too extravagant. You can build a solid gaming PC for about $1000 if you plan it right. You have to budget for it but it’ll be worth it.
