Calgary Thread 2015

So much for that then.

Unless SF5 is an event at EVO, this is beyond dumb.

This is just a giant pain in the ass for everyone, even EVO. I don’t get it. They’re already the most profitable tournament hands down, so it is really for money? Capcom wouldn’t force then to do this would they?

Looking forward to SRK (combofiend/etc?) having to try and blow smoke up our asses and bullshit about why this is a good idea.

I assume there’s going to be a lot of people asking for refunds. Maybe I shouldn’t waste my time going down there even as a spectator.

Hmm. Sony is also providing 15000 pot bonus to all the other Capcom Pro Tour Premier events. Wonder if this means those events will run USF4 on Sony consoles as well. Canada Cup?

I would really love to see the canons try and pass off evo as a labour of love and how they don’t turn a huge profit off of it to most of the sycophants now

I was really considering going this year even though my work did wage rollbacks and it would have hurt my wallet a lot. glad I decided against doing that now

anyone want a iphone 5, rogers locked, great condition with nothing wrong with it.
only for $250, great deal~

or accept my friend request on bookface, you meanie. unless we’re not really friends after all, in which case you can go pound sand sniff

yup, capcom’s fucked. all hail NRS. I’m really pumped for MKX it will be the first one i’m going to try to get good at.

LOL thats an interesting way to kill your own scene.
Thanks Sonybama.

Good thing i don’t give two shits for the FGC outside of here

Well even though I think it’s a bad game (not bad in marvel way, bad in distinctly NRS way) , I will probably play mkx more than a week.

I’m a super big fan of the groove system they put in and it looks like they sort of fixed the faces on the women, which is sort of good.

It definitely seems like the Capcom Cup situation played a part in this decision because GGXrd and MKX aren’t being forced on PS4.

Cronus Max does work on PS4 but it’s not simple plug & play on the system unless you want intermittent time outs with your stick. You need to connect the Cronus Max to the PS4 and connect a PS4 pad to it then connect your stick and cronus max to a PC/laptop. After that you need to configure their application to map the PS4 pad to your stick lay out. It’s very unintuitive and a giant pain in the ass to set up but it does indeed work. lol It’s banned from most Evo related torunamnets because you can program macro’s into it.

I got a stick triple modded for PS3, PS4, and Xbox360 because of GGXrd so I’m pretty set if I wanted to go Evo but the whole thing sounds like a gong show to begin with. lol

in my opinion the worst that can be said about the whole PS4 thing is that it’s a bold move.

seriously. who doesn’t have $150 for a ps4 stick. go collect cans for the next six months. you could probably do that, buy a ps4/games and pay for your flights to LAS VEGAS doing the same.

i’m personally glad to see the old consoles getting the boot. those dinosaurs belong in a second hand shop lol

if EVO and Sony are forcing the players to go out and buy a PS4 plus a new stick then Sony better be putting in a HUGE buffer into the EVO pot this year. otherwise, the only people profitting are Sony and Mr.Wizfuck.

MKX is on PS4 at Evo. Is Xrd not? PS4 seems the standard for MKX already. TYM had an overwhelming vote for it and CEO is PS4 as well.

MKX has to be since a seperate company is handling the ports for PS3 an 360. And obviously they don’t want an ugly version of the game being showed off.

You guys are bringing tears to my eyes with wanting to play MKX

I have a PS4 stick already yaaay. The future is here. Everyone is going to be getting one 6 months later anyway for SFV.

The last time I checked Evo rules, GGXrd was being played on PS3 but I’d rather see it on PS4. Granted, it’ll hurt the player base just as much as it hurts the player base for SF4 if they made that decision.

Personally, I think it’s 1 year too early for Evo to switch to PS4. It’s easier for us to say who can afford it since it’s easy to get a job in Alberta and save money for the stick, console, game, and trip. You can’t really justify the costs if you’re training for a 5+ year old game that you’ve continuously had to pay for updates. If you break down the costs it’s $200+ for the stick, $400-500 for the console, and $30-50 for another copy of the game. I’m pretty sure most people aren’t content with just buying the stick and not being able to break it in or test the PS4 port of the game. Then you have to think about pad players, hit box players, and people who have a customized stick (silent buttons, octa/circle gate, etc…). Not to mention flight costs, food costs, hotel costs, and venue costs that you’ll incur from attending Evo. The costs can easily run into $1000+ all for a single game that you want to compete in. If you’re not committed to competing at a high level then it’s totally not worth all of that.

Capcom is putting in $15,000 into the pot but that’s peanuts in comparison to $11 mil prize that the International got for DOTA 2. The developers for DOTA 2 set something up for The International every year to boost the prize pot. I don’t know all of the details but I think the developers release new in-game content and a portion of the purchases goes towards the prize pot for The International. Last year they raised the prize pot to $11 mil, iirc.

idk if youre trolling or not

but I have like 3 sticks already, one dual modded, that’s about 500$

I have a copy of sf4 for pc, xbone and ps3, not counting how much money paid for expansions. lets just say at $60 a pop for all 3, that’s $180

you’re telling me that I need to go collect cans so I can spend ANOTHER 150 dollars for a stick for a system I may not even own, and a copy of the game to practice on(since it could/probably is different) just so I can play in a huge fucking tournament is pretty insulting

its street fighter 4. it’s been nearly the same fucking game since 2008(that’s 7 years ago). I am not sinking any more money into this franchise until we get a sequel. you might have hundreds and hundreds of dollars to blow on a 7 year old game, but me and probably most other sane people don’t

i don’t think Sony understands what the FGC is and who it consists of. most of us are broke asses and too old to ask our parents for money so we can’t afford a brand new ps4 + stick + copy of SF4.

the MOBA scene is different because those kids are young and can still ask their parents to shell out hundreds of dollars for them.

i wonder how much more on top of that Mr.Wizard is getting paid to fkuc over his FGC. $15k aint worth it man.

I think mobas are so popular because the big games traditionally can be run on toasters (cs 1.6, wc3/sc:bw, lol, sc2, etc) and less because of kids

also because computers have components, the sponsorships are bigger. who sponsors the fgc? literally only madcatz(stick manufacturer with a near-monopoly), vape companies and fgc people with clothing lines they run out of their basements

who sponsors pc games? well just multi-billion dollar companies in a very competitive market over dozens of pieces of hardware you need to even have your computer turn on

edit I guess you could add sony and Capcom, 2 failing, extremely Japanese companies to sponsors of the fgc. one makes the games but doesn’t even play them, the other…well we can already see its impact and they haven’t even sponsored a tourney yet

Man, if we could get a group of even just like 10 of us that could play MKX every week that’d be sooooo amazing (except Spawn is mine; no sharesies)

Money-wise mobas are popular because they are free to play, and only deal in micro-transactions which is something that nearly everyone, rich or poor, can accommodate every now and then.

Speaking of which, what is your name on bnet greg? I can add you to the list of scrubs I have to carry in HoTS.
