Ultradavid actually talked about it a couple weeks ago. He thinks Evo might be trying to price people out deliberately (especially with how ginormous the Smash community is, it’s gonna still sell out this year)
I think the idea is, if you’re gonna sell out either way, you might as well be selling the tickets to the people that have money. (And then they can spend even more
money once they’re at evo)

I can sort of understand the logic behind this decision. Once SF5 comes out everyone’s going to be migrating to PS4 anyways, but this just seems like they’re jumping the gun.

My bad it looks like Evo gets $50,000 from CPT split between top 8. The link has the complete break down of the $500,000 between the entire pro tour. All premiere events except Evo and Japan based events get $15,000 split between top 8 which includes CC2k15.
I missed the stream from yesterday so just looking at CPT’s site for more info and it definitely looks much more structured now. Evo still looks like a gong show and needs more structured organization.
$50,000 split between top 8 at the largest tournament still isn’t very much.
Mr.Wizard pockets waaayyyy too much money. i’m all for him making money because he puts in a ton of work but d4mn he pockets so much money from EVO and he doesn’t give any of it back. EVO payouts are quite laughable actually.
It’s nowhere near the levels of MOBA’s but the support for FG’s pale in comparison. CPT looks like a step in the right direction but there needs to be way more sponsor support for the FGC if anybody wants to see million dollar prize pools for big events. I don’t think Evo will be the tournament that gives out that million dollar prize pool if the FGC reaches that point. It’ll be an event like CPT or some other sponsored tourney that’ll do it and then Evo will gradually fall by the way side when that happens.
No select-plinking of PS4 either apparently. That seriously affects some characters/players.
