Okay so funny story time. Sorry for triple post.
I had to cut a guy off at the bar yesterday. He was being a dumbass. There was some chill Aussie at the bar and this guy was like why are you standing there. Aussie guy was just chillin not botherin noone. Plus he ordered 2 stellas and a schooner to drink em in. I recognized this guy, he was chill.
So I cut off this guy after I saw him giving Aussie a hard time. He asks for a rye ginger and a shot of tequila. I said nah man. He’s like what, why? I’m like well you’re not very chill right now. If you behave, sure, but nah you’re kind of giving off a strange vibe. and he was, he was a little sketch because of the sauce.
He gets pretty angry… why, he says, come here, he says, tell me why you won’t serve me. I said I just did, you’re acting strange, I’m not giving you anymore booze. He had some change on the bar in front of him and he starts like pushing it around like a little child… most drunk people become children. Although some drunk people are still BIG ADULT MEN and a fight is not ideal.
I walk away and I’m like =\ well hopefully he’ll leave. no, he comes around to where I’m standing at the till and gets up in my face. How come you won’t serve me??? Tell me, huh? You think you’re better than me??? I was like nah man like I said you’re acting weird, no more for you. He says you think you’re better than me??? Who do you think you are??? I’m like uh I’m just a bartender man… He says how do you think you know I can’t drink anymore? I’m like LOL cause I’m a bartender. I know when to cut ppl off.
At this point it’s just me, this guy, Aussie, and my cook who is a butch chick sitting at the bar. Butch chick has backed me up before but seemed to not want to get into it. So this guy is getting up in my face… he is making me pretty angry, but if you match a drunk person’s anger and challenge them, they will be reckless and rise up to it. So I just did my best to stay chill and maintain the high ground and maintain my presence. I start losing my patience because I basically couldn’t get through to him at all and he was really pressuring me so I said OK, 5 seconds and I call the cops. I saw Ryan do that once at Dickens, super useful technique. Just threaten them with the highest power.
5… 4… 3… he says alright fuck you I gave you a $20 tip, I want it back I said here you go man, gave him the $20. Away he goes. It was awesome though, sometimes it sucks as a bartender cause people can really get up in your grill, especially in bowness where people are under-privileged, over-entitled, unambitious chodes. The young folk especially, and some older folk who are substance abusers… but most of the old crowd are very chill and cool, and my regulars love me. But some ppl are just rude as fuck and there ain’t much I can do about it but stay chill… but it was sick, this Aussie guy, he was paying attention to what we were saying, and he was fucking ready!!! I saw the look in his eyes, he was ready to back me up if I got in a fight. Man, that was some sick shit, someone who can back me up!! Fuck yeah, I had someone on my team. Right on. Always refreshing to see.
So the guy left and I had a convo with the Aussie guy. He said man you handled that perfectly, kudos, yeah he was sketchy, good idea cutting him off etc. We ended up broing down real hard. Couple minutes pass and I’m going about my close when guess who comes back in… drunk guy. I said, oh, you again. He goes back to square 1 why you cut me off you think you’re better than me etc. I said sigh. 5 seconds and I call the cops. He said call me a cab, I did… and I got through to them, cab en-route. He says call me a cab, I said I DID… they’re coming… CALL ME A CAB… wtf man, alright fuck this I’m calling the cops. Takes FOREVER on the phone with the cops to DESCRIBE the guy (is it really necessary??? just get the fuck down here), meanwhile Aussie and Drunk are having words… I don’t want aussie guy to get in a fight, he’s too right on for that… tense situation follows, then BOOM the guys cab shows up. thank god.
he gets in and goes away… me and aussie resume broing down, he tells me these stories about how he got arrested, I tell him some of mine, he tells me about how he was in jail in Bahrain for drinking 1 beer, it was crazy… cool stories. Eventually we go our separate ways, but not before a firm handshake, exchange of names, and knowing that both of us have got each others back. Another ally in the bar!! Wooooooooo
Anyway yeah that’s my story, last night was kinda interesting. Sweeeeeet
edit: oh yeah and it took 4 cops 40 fucking minutes to show up. Good to know, they can apologize to my dead body next time. calgary’s finest.
