For those unfamiliar with the differences between the various Smash versions, here’s a good comparison for you (don’t have to watch the entire vid). Melee (and project M) are incredibly fast, and Brawl is incredibly slow. Just how slow?
Here’s a match between two Brawl characters designed around speed (Fox and Sonic).
Brawl is slow because characters have considerably less KO potential on every hit, the physics engine is different so momentum is hard to keep when moving (which means characters frequently need to spend a lot of time trying to move rather than attack), edgehogging was changed so most moves just vacuum up to the ledge making recovery easy, you can air-dodge infinitely in the air + use it to cancel momentum when you are hit with high percent, which means you survive forever and defensive play is almost unstoppably good. Actually, the main reason Metaknight is so amazing is that he breaks a lot of these rules. He’s like agent Smith, people think he plays by the rules of the game but he really doesn’t.
Here’s a match between two Project M characters designed around speed (Zero Suit and Wolf), although these characters aren’t even the fastest in the game. (just watch the first match or so)
Notice how quickly they’re able to move, which means more time is spent attacking or mind-gaming rather than just trying to get around, recoveries are good but the fast speed means lots happens quickly, and they’re still able to be intercepted. High KO power means defensive play is difficult; you’re better off trying to hit your opponent rather than avoid being hit. Higher hitstun means people can do fun combos rather than having everything broken by no momentum + infinite air dodging.
The difference in speed between these two videos is almost incomprehensible, lol. Hard to believe one of these games is just a mod of the other.
Project M is basically Brawl graphics, so it’s 480p. I think it looks decent (animations are smooth and stuff), though the lack of crispness is noticeable sometimes.
I wasn’t trying to sell PM up there per se, just randomly saw these vids and decided to post them in case people wanted to learn more about history of Smash and because I was bored at work.
sigh… im at my fucking wits end with this damn laptop of mine. so i buy a CD burner this week so i can try and fix the unmountable boot volume error myself by making a windows boot disc using my gfs laptop.
so i burn the disc, go to try it in my laptop and now the fucking thing wont even turn on, which i think is down to a faulty connection from the power cord to the laptop itself, so now i need to get that fixed first, and the asus website is fucking crap because the serial number is so worn on the thing i cant even read it to put in the website… just a neverending fucking circle of shit.
does anybody know any decent (as in 100% arent gonna fuck up) laptop repair people/places? even if the laptop is unsalvageable i need all the data that was on there since it has like the last 5 years of my life on there that i cant afford to lose.
I know they will stream Marvel instead of it, but we will reclaim the win for Calgary since MashPoopTower won here in Calgary (Damn Andrew how could you and Bane let that happen).
This will set up the epic tie breaker for the FEB tourny (you better have Injustice Troy lol ) where I will also try set up a 3v3 vs there 3 best (they probably only have 3 because playing Injustice is not the cool thing to do in Poopmonton). I will scream about broken shit and drink more beer then a human should, and it will be glorious. (I will try to get them to put money on it as well,)
Wish us luck (5 of us going up to play, sorry Greg really tried to swing another car :()
Keep it real CowTown, - (good win by the Flames tonight)
(I may also go protest in front of Rexall for them to KEEP the current management and coaching staff because I enjoy watching a talent stacked team lose and make fools of themselves)
Don’t worry, as long as it’s on the hard drive and you haven’t formatted it, your data should be safe. Just hold onto it until you can access it from another computer.
