for some reason i thought far st. HP was his giant arm swing. shows how much i really got into sf3 lol.
also @ayfrochefort, what were the deets on that cove arcade revival thing going on this sat? time and place and is there an entry fee or anything like that?
i dunno. if the opp is backdashing 80% of the time or whatever you could just chase them down with a forwards moving move or jump/dash forwards yourself.
i think the less safejumps and OSs the better tbh. now you dont get free mindless pressure after a knockdown. people have gotten too used to having free stuff.
Cammy’s wakeup is also pretty dumb, don’t get me wrong
I don’t want free stuff, but I do expect a safe jump if I get a hard knockdown. That’s my reward for dealing with your amazing footsies buttons, I finally get to pressure you.
If I have to make an amazing read with, like… forward jump or massively unsafe hurricane kick just to get you to sit still on wakeup, this is heavily in favor of the person being knocked down. Not to mention, you can just fucking reversal anyway at any time, and even do it on reaction if I guess wrong on your delayed wakeup and do the wrong setup.
I wouldn’t really mind so much if backdashes weren’t so universally a good option (without option selects to keep them in check). If I can’t reliably OS your backdash, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t make it your primary go-to on wakeup, and then throw in a reversal or a wakeup throw or some nonsense the rest of the time. Characters with godlike buttons in the midscreen will be really, REALLY hard to catch.
Basically, my prediction is that USF4 will be the ultimate runaway game, and it will take someone with absolutely retarded offense like a Cammy or something to make any inroads on good backdashes. Characters with rather pedestrian offense like Cody or Abel or (insert 30 other characters here) won’t have the tools to handle it. (Yes I listed Abel there, he already struggles mightily with good backdashes in this game, and his offense will be hampered even further by delayed wakeup)
idk ricky. i imagine i can come up with something like safejump os sweep. if they delay wake up meaty f.mp os sweep for rose and what not. i think you’re just thinking to much into this. anyways anyone have any idea whats happening to my pc sf? it keeps saying session creation failed when i try to make a room. expands my horizons when im trying customs and replay search failed(or along those lines). essentially i guess im locked out of online :s
In theory it works, but it will lose to delayed wakeup -> reversal. And Chun/Gen/Rose all have pretty good reversals against grounded opponents already, or they’re getting better (Rose).
What’s the counter to this? Well you have two options: 1) predict a delayed wakeup and do a different setup with an OS, which loses heavily to normal wakeup (the knocked down char will get a free combo), so that’s probably going to be a bad idea long term without a hard read, or 2) predict the reversal and do nothing, which loses to things like wakeup throw or backdash.
It’s no surprise that all the good SF4 characters score all their offense from the air, not on the ground (with the possible exception of Fei but he’s really good in the air too), because backdash and reversals are just too good. They are going to exacerbate this problem by basically forcing you to fight on the ground against dominating footsies characters and then also take on these characters on the ground during their wakeup. It’s too much. Some chars with instant dive kicks (Cammy, Rufus) will be less effected because they can take back to the air on reaction to delayed wakeup, but most of everyone else is going to struggle.
Again, I’m not saying I need one option to cover every single thing you do, but what I DO want is to maintain some semblance of pressure. I don’t want to have to play a brutal footsies game and then have to guess right 3 times on your wakeup just to get you to block a jab.
I don’t think any 3s character has any close normal (it’s also true of the 3s chars in SF4).
