Kimmicks has entered CvS less times than I’ve entered Third…
You never enter anything other than Third, even at $5.
DJ rarely enters CvS, and he’s for the bump anyway
Steve wants the bump; he doesn’t help your argument
David’s arguments are being duly considered, as are Paul’s.
Jose has yet to make his thoughts known (I can’t wait).
Charged wants the bump also.
So out of the few Third players that play other shit (about the same number of GG or Tekken players that play multiple games, and much less than the number of Smashers that blow $20 on doubles and singles… which kinda kills your point by itself…), most that have spoken are in favor of the increase, and others really don’t enter any other tournaments anyway.
Even still… if these players don’t enter both CvS and 3S (that’d be Steve… and maybe Kimmicks, and um… hmm…), we’re only looking at a $5 increase anyway you look at it.
i entered st. and i would enter cvs2 if it were cheaper. the main reason im against the bump is because it straight up isnt going to do what you guys are expecting it to do, period. that’s the only reason im against it. an extra 5 dollars shouldn’t be making people play harder, and it definitely isnt going to bring some sudden influx of greatly skilled players to the monthlies.
Cheaper than what? The $5 it has been for the past year? You never enter at $5; what would we have to drop it to before you’d play?
CvS will be $10 for the foreseeable future. The people that actually play the game at C3 have spoken out in favor of the increase pretty much unanimously. Not just top… from Steve, to Kid Flash, to charged, to Kimmicks.
I wouldnt care if the game was $30 to enter…$5 or 10 aint a scratch in my bank account. Especially when you have a months notice. Besides cvs is the only game I play anyway, since i stoped GG after accent core came out. So the fees aint hurtin me.
This is exactly what I don’t want. It’s your stated purpose to restrict the number of people who enter a game? How is the scene going to grow or even survive when we’re making the price of entry higher than someone who needs experience is willing to pay?
What will make things go better if we eliminate them smash queers. And bring more tvs for our games. They only come to play one game and that take up the whole c3 and tournament day.
Just FYI I also got 2nd place (only losing to Steve) in both A2 tourneys and my only real expeirence with the game was GGPO online. I play GG, CVS2 and ST and am terrible at the first 2. I do alright in ST (qualified in it at Evo…although the bracket wasn’t very difficult) until someone counter picks me.
You are being one hell of an idiot in this thread guy. You should be looking at the Smash scene and see how the fuck they manage to get 100+ people consistently while the rest of ‘us’ are floundering on the issue for raising the price by $5 and barely getting over 25 entries for games if even that much. Stop insulting them and the GG folks while you’re at it, the last thing you need is further separation or ugly in this community.
C3 was plenty of fun, if it didn’t take half a day to get to you I’d come down more for sure.
Sadly I understand the smash scene all to clearly…and its sad. I still dont understand where the price for entering into a tournament becomes a debate. $5-10 a game aint shit. It was already stated before just rasie the price to attract more people. Its sure does make sense, considering the only person that really ever take home the money is steve. Id prefer it to be someone I dont see on all the time. I mean when cant have much of a scene when people arent tryin to contribute by adding more money.
If you remember I kept tryin to jump in on you with sagat. Dont ask why I did that dum shit but i did it. Good shit though in the begining. Well thats what I get for not drinking after my last match.
Always fun to play someone with an interesting team
I DO think that we ought to pay attention to those that actually play the games, as opposed to those that are kinda thinking about maybe starting to consider trying to give a game a chance.
Again… take CvS. It’s been $5 for the past year. From October-March, CvS was on Marvel status around here. I decided to try to build the scene, so through random gatherings, stupid hype, discussions and whatnot, the scene grew.
Lowering the entry fee to $5 did nothing to spur interest.
So if the people that play want to raise it, keeping it at $5 so that maybe 1 random person will join doesn’t make sense.
Getting people into games, and the entry fee at C3 are pretty much independent of one another. Getting people to come out to our tournaments is more tied in to entry fee. I know I don’t travel for $5…
I’m all for building the scene. That’s why I travel from Woodbridge to Baltimore several times a week to play. That’s why I give rides all over the place so people can play. That’s how you build a scene, not $5 entry (look at MvC2).
The MAIN counter point for this argument is that while 5-10 dollars isn’t much… it adds up when you factor in multiple games. I.e. Multiple capcom games.
40$ isn’t something to sneeze at for alot of people.
I would be in favor of free tournaments, but that’s just me.
Well I should be at ECC provided I dont have to drive.lol Or yea, the next one aint til the 20th. Plenty of time for me to get use to playin balrog. Knowing the timing on that uppercut. That just mean Bchan and myself will have to put in alot of practice.
Im glad this time I had a definite team. Yama surprised me in a couple of matches.
I don’t see why promoting for out of towners and promoting for locals has to come into conflict.
I think that bringing out of towners itself promotes the local scene. If we can bring super hype shit to our backyard, how is that bad?
I think catering specifically to locals will kill the scene. If we just cater to the same people that show up every month, the scene will get stale and die (not to mention never improve). If we can make C3 a place to be for the whole EC, I don’t see why we shouldn’t.
we should have ranbats. and make fun of people who fucking lose. like kimmicks. LAWL AT KIMMICKS. that’ll get them suckers to improve!
on a more serious note; there’s a conflict because some people want to keep the tournaments casual – a gathering of sorts. others want the tournaments to be more competitive to push the scene to become stronger in skill level. i understand both sides. ultradavid hates 3S, so he likes to keep it casual. after all, he plays Q. how competitive can you get until you realize you’re constantly fighting uphill battles? me on the other hand (like i said, after evo), i do appreciate a sense of competition and a need for a growth in skill level. i mean, it came to the point where i started running stipulations on characters i casual with (dudley, urien, etc). [that has nothing to do with me wanting to up the price, i don’t mind either way]
bottom line is, i want the scene to grow and more players to WANT to get better. i’m not quite sure where ‘entry fee’ plays in that role, but i want that end result.
if out of towners decide to come, raise it to 10$. if its just local, then 5$.
i dont think random people will just show up, so if they post, and its a good amount coming, then yeah 10$ isnt a big deal.
as for turnouts, theres a big difference between people coming and people already here joining more games. it may even out, but i remember a richmond tourney having all games 10$, with only 13 entrants for 3s and around the same for marvel.
10$ is just gonna make people stick with their favorites, and limit the whole “experience” thing if they’re going to “experience” other games. when i thought about what syberninja said, 90$ to walk in the door is pretty bad to spend when you know ur gonna lose certain games.
as far as getting better, one 2/3 match in tourney vs jwong wont help. and he only plays for money. the best players never play casuals for free, they dont need the practice.
