When I first did this trial I struggled with this part, but I was trying to do it the way you are trying, try this instead…
As soon as you enter the command for ex seismo input down back then up forward and then the burn kick motion, it’s much easier that way, I am 100% consistent now using that method.
pretty big. a problem a lot of people have when trying to do her combos is that they think everything has to be blazing fast when it really isn’t. wait for the dirt to show on the ground (do not hold down) and then input the sjc>bk or else you’ll get a u/b. the input i use during a combo is :qcf::uf::hcb: + k cause you don’t need to do an instant sjc bk. same thing for the fff. the tk cancel is pretty slow when compared to a naked feint.
Thanks for the help guys, I nailed Vipers final trial today, after about an hour of trying. Strangely, I never ran into the problem where a super would come out in the middle of the combo - was this a problem in SF4 that was fixed in SSF4?
Anyway, until recently, I didn’t even think I could ever do Viper’s trials, no matter how much I practiced. I’m glad I did it - not only as a confidence booster, but of all the trials I’ve done so far, Viper 24 is the one that did the most to help me suppress my instinct to mash out combos. If I tried that here, she would just cancel the EX seismo.
My preferred method for Viper’s 24 is:
[]:d:
[]:hp: (don’t release it yet)
[]:db:
[]Release both the stick and :hp: – negative edges will trigger Thunder Knuckle
[]:3p::df: (cancel Thunder Knuckle and crouch)
[]:3p: (works as :hp: – don’t release it yet)
[]:d::df: (now release :3p: for EX Seismic Hammer)
[]:qcb::ub: (felt like I did this, don’t know why it works in the combo but not by itself - maybe I delayed it naturally by exactly the right amount because I’m reacting to the EX seismo instead of expecting it)

Hold back the instinct to input the Ultra immediately - just wait a few milliseconds to allow it to hit
The first time I got to the ultra, I did it too soon, and it failed. Good thing it wasn’t just luck that got me there, as it took only a few more tries to do it again, this time with a correctly timed ultra. :woot:
Feels great to have Viper’s trials done while I’m only about 50% into the trials. If Viper’s are the hardest, then I know that I can do them all. I have tried Ken’s 24 and Abel’s 24, and they both seemed easier than Viper’s (I got close without too much effort).
The remaining trials will be done in the order of descending expected difficulty, saving the easiest remaining characters as a nice dessert. :wgrin: Which are the hardest after Viper’s? Based on what I’ve read, El Fuerte, Ken, Abel, Dan, Sakura, Ibuki, and Guile are more difficult than the rest.
well, this is the viper forums so i’m pretty sure a lot of people can do her trials pretty often… well maybe not that st. lp>sjc>ultra, but they can link cr. mp>sjc>ultra after it. still depends on the person. ibuki’s i thought wasn’t hard cause her involves sjc just like viper’s. it does feel a little different, but nothing too hard. i can’t get abel’s and elf’s last ones though i haven’t been trying it often. though im pretty sure abel and elf mains could do those easily. i just do trials here and there.
Just did all of Abel’s trials, and I’d probably rank Abel’s 24 about the same as Viper’s 24. It’s kinda hard to compare the difficulty anyway, because I’m probably (hopefully) improving my execution while I’m doing this. When I started, I think I struggled more with Cammy’s 24 and (especially) Sagat’s 24 than I did with any of Viper and Abel’s trials.
That was my plan also, but I’ve become addicted to hearing the immensely satisfying “SUCCESS!” and “CLEAR!”. I have no choice but doing all of them now.
I’ve beat 100% of the trials, and I would rank things pretty similar. Except for Guile. His are only difficult if you don’t know the correct input (like his super cancel is weird) or what really threw me with Guile was in trial 24 I was trying to cancel into his super instead of linking it. After I figured out the right stuff to do, his trials are not so bad.
Wow, I’m glad someone else noticed this. This is exactly how I passed those trials in super, but I did them the “hard” way in Vanilla. It definitely wasn’t worth the extra 15-20 min’s to learn new timing/motions that you won’t ever use again to pass a couple trials.
I haven’t gotten that far yet on her trial. I seem to have trouble getting the EX Seismic Hammer out fast enough and appropriately. lol
Well, I only have 8 more trials left. I’m having trouble with them so they might be considered pretty hard. lol. They are:
Ibuki (24) - C.Viper (24) - Makoto (24) - Sagat (24) - Sakura (23) - Gen (24) - Abel (24) - El Fuerte (24)
If you haven’t done these yet and want to save easiest for last. I’d wait on Dudley, Hakan, T.Hawk and Guy.
EDIT
I followed your instructions more closely and was able to get that Seismic Hammer out! Thanks to your inputs it started becoming easy and almost 100% for me.
For the super jump though I just did. :d::u::uf:
Embarrassingly I need help with trial 11. I’m basically having trouble working out how to do the medium thunder knuckle. The move itself says just m tk, but the movelist adds in a cancel for it. Well I’ve been trying both but to no avail :wasted: Any help with this please?
22 is such a pain, but i’m getting the execution right which just doesn’t make sense.
i see everything up to the high jump cancel in red (as in completed properly so far), and then the ultra comes out, but it doesn’t connect and i get the lame 3 hit combo message. why isn’t the super connecting? i keep getting slowrolled by the game
i’ve read extensively about trial 22, and i’ve even beat this trial (like once, maybe twice at best) on vanilla. but this thing will just not work at all. i get everything highlighted red except the ultra. the ultra doesn’t connect. if i try cr. MP, i get the cr. MP to connect like 5% of the time, and when it does, i usually get the super to come out.
i’m currently doing 2(jab)362369 + PPP. i’ve read that it’s “not possible” doing it this way, but i feel most comfortable this way. plus, i dunno if it’s really impossible or not this way. i’ve tried 236(jab)2369 + PPP, but that didn’t get me anywhere closer.
this is the last trial i have left, and it’s so dumb. is there anything else I can do to beat this? i could really care less about performing this in matches.
edit: nevermind. i got it about four tries later thanks to this:
not sure if throwing that up command at the very end helps, but i think it helped me.
When I did trial 22, I had watched this Vesper tutorial:
After a couple mins of practice I could do the jab sjc ultra like 80% of the tries, then I just had to get it into the combo. For some reason trials like these, fuertes RSF etc got cleared really fast, but I still struggle a lot more with certain link trials etc. Seems kinda weird that I struggle with supposedly easier trials.
In my opinion after doing all of them, there’s only one or two trials per character that are difficult. the rest are mildly easy. In terms of difficulty I’d rank from most difficult to least:
El Fuerte #23 (s.short link after shower roll kick was plain luck)
C.Viper #24 (complex until you use shortcuts)
Blanka #24 (difficult to store enough charge for blanka ball after s.MP since u cannot do back+MP, must use UB for charge)
Gen #21 (tricky stance switching)/E.Honda #22 (only because it HAS to be [L] HHS and not [H] HHS)
Abel #24 (not really a big deal. buffer the F+MK dash and plink HP)
Just wait until Makoto #24… or Sakura #23… or Abel #24… or some of Guile’s trials. I got the Trial Athlete achievement yesterday. It was a proud moment for me, until I realized I didn’t really remember any character’s combos at all!
Haha, yeah I really need to do at least the majority of all of the character’s trials… if nothing else just to get a general idea of what they’re capable of… I do like how difficult Viper’s are though. That way once I get her stuff down, everyone else will seem easy
