C.Viper Strategies and Match-ups

Boxer has the best jump ins in the entire game. He can jump whenever he wants to.

But if what Magus says is true…

fuckin BISON… im at a real loss in this match up.

All I can say is that I’m loving Viper right now. I’m not even an advanced player, but scrubs are just laying down for me. Like, Sak and Ryu have pretty slow wakeup SRKs compared to Ken, and because of that, I’m racking up the counters.

I love the wakeup BK. I kinda wish the BK could be canceled.

What’s the best way to punish a shoryuken. I usually just block and throw. But I want something more devastating.

Depending on which shoryuken they do, I either c.mk -> mp tk. If they wift or you block a fierce shoryuken (maybe mp shoryuken, hardly anyone uses those though) you can always FP -> ex seismo -> HJC BK (and if they’re in the corner, add ultra or FP TK).

I can’t believe how well this works from a distance. Good find.

Still a crappy match-up, though. Especially if he turtles up. :arazz:

if you’re close enough, go for the double fierce combo. may want to use cr. HP to start of because its faster than st. HP.

or keep it simple with cr. HP ex seizmo to kicks

if no meter, cr. HP, mid TK

Any more tips on viper vs. boxer?

Yeah once people get good with c.HP x 2 that’s going to be Viper’s biggest punishment. That’s stun city with EX seismo and burn kick tacked on. c.HP straight to EX seismo is good if you want something that won’t mess up but…getting good with c.HP cancels will be so worth it. Can you do c.HP x 2, MP knuckle? I know you can do c.HP, c.MP, MP knuckle.

My execution was never super great in fighting games so Viper will help me to reach that higher level execution wise. I want to eventually be able to get c.HP x 2, EX seismo on a dime and cancel all my normals into HP Feint to keep pressure up.

Yeah c fierce, fierce TK cancel, cr fierce, strong TK works. I should go for that shit from now on. Though cr fierce for me doesn’t land as often as cr strong due to jabbers and short crazies.

Also, from the current videos out, even the Vipers from overseas don’t use the fierce feint. I’ve seen more jab feint and seismo feints in the blocked pressure. Yep, I’ve seen alot of seismo feints in guard strings.

Matter of fact, that might work better anyhow cause she’s more wide open if she uses it, and the opponent has to be crouching or it’s going to hit. So it might be more likely to generate a response over TK feint. I’m going to try it.

Well c.HP x 2, MP knuckle would strictly be a punishment combo for me. That’s hella stun and meter build. Viper’s c.HP is too slow IMO to be a real serious contender against other character’s pokes. It was made more as a move to verify damage when people mess shit up like whiffing pokes, specials etc. Stuff where you just press c.HP for free and start a combo.

If the training mode in this game was better, I could try verifying it’s ability to stuff anything that comes out after guarding an air roundhouse burning kick. But as it stands I stick to cr strong for stuffing moves cause I know that to be faster, for ease based on the frame adv given. Though even if you were to use a cr fierce after a roundhouse burning kick Viper might be out of range to feint into another one.

How do I beat Blanka and Bison?

They seem to be my only weakness. I’m fine with Sagat and Zangief 0_o. Kinda weird, but I always lose to them. Help please! Thanks

EDIT: NM I got the help i needed. Ignore this thread. I didnt read well enough.

Kunai how do you deal with turtles like Balrog or Guile. I fought one GUile today that ended my winning streak. SO annoying… I tried to throw him but he always keeps me zoned out because of his low jabs and low RH.

Elbow drop is a fantastic move. It seems like f+mp and backdashing are two of the more underappreciated pieces in Viper’s arsenal.

I’ve managed to get out of a bunch of retarded situations that I put myself in thanks to these two.

Focus attack throw or back dash into weak thunder knuckles or flame kicks to fly over the kick and tag him. Once you get within poking range you limit Guile’s options as he can’t safely throw sonic booms as weak thunder knuckle will go underneath them. Honestly, this isn’t that bad of a match up for C.Viper it seems to be in her favor, imo, as she has outs to Guile’s close and long range game.

Dictator/Claw/Blanka/Honda/Gief matchups frustrate me beyond belief and it seems the people I play have one of these characters mained or as a back up so I’m always playing against these guys.

I’ve been having better luck with Gief, Honda, and Claw matches but Blanka and Dictator rape me for free. Everything Dictator has can stuff Viper’s games and it seems that you really need to keep the pressure on Dictator to win the match because once it slows down it’s already in his favor.

Air-to-Air Dictator wins against C.Viper unless you straight jump RH but anything else will get stuffed and whats worse is that you could eat a double j.mp into Ultra.

Seismo feints can help bait out whiffs or blocks for punishable c.FPxxFTK Cancelxxc.FP combos. Jumping at Dictator is pretty much undesirable as he can beat you air-to-air or anti-air you with s.RH or EX Scissors. Mix up games on wake up are dangerous as EX Scissors can take you out of the air while a mistake can get you Ultra’d. Overall, it’s a really unfavorable match up for C.Viper.

I’m also willing to attempt using f+mp after knockdowns for mix up games to force Dictator to lose his charge if he tries to Scissor his way out rather than doing jumping mix ups/cross ups.

FTK trades with Scissors but timed early enough you will beat it cleanly.

I feel your pain man. These are tough matchups for Viper. Gief I can manage because most of the time I can HJ > HK into WBK. This does decent damage and works a lot against the Gief’s that always try to throw after you land the HK. They try to throw and they eat the BK. After that I just keep away and play the seismo game.

But the charge characters just give me fits with Viper. Seems like those are her tough matchups by far.

Thanks, that worked out great once I started trying it.

Any other tips against Cammy?

Beating Guile was already explained earlier in the thread. Look back a few pages for a few others and myself inputted. I’m still working on the Balrog and Bison matchups since those matchups are considerably harder (and in their favor unlike Guile).
