C.Viper Strategies and Match-ups

if u dont mind i play viper as well and could offer some advice here, e honda is rough if he gets the lead, but if u can just manage to take a pixel off of him in the begining just hault all attacks after thatdont attack him just sit and wait because u literally cant damage him safely when hes just sitting. I dont no much about the bison match but jump up straight roundhouse works very well vs him. and vs blanka dont jump at him, and punish his ball with seismics into burning kick, and to pressure blanka the low forward/low mp into mp TK works really well add feints to bait a random blanka ball and punish with seismos, thats all i do to him out side of standard sreaction fp tk on shit and footsies but that should help alot

Well, I’ll be fighting that turtle fest Blanka again today so I’ll see how that goes. Thanks.

a few things are key against blanka:

low strong vs blanka ball on reaction
blanka cannot ball you between SJC’ed seismos, so you can win out on chip damage exchanges
ex seismo -> burning kick punishes blocked blanka balls

the match is a lot of waiting, feinting and sitting around really. viper has much safer options to attack blanka with, though, so over the course of a long round you should come out on top as long as you didn’t take any unnecessary risks

And that is why I kept screwing up royally. Thanks for that.

I’ve been pretty impatient in this match up so that’ll explain my frustration.

Now that I’m intruding in this forum, thanks for the anti-Blanka information, Buktooth. Blanka is one of the Viper match-ups I’ve been trying to research for a little while.

One thing I discovered a couple of days ago: if you don’t have any stocks at the ready, you can punish a blocked Blanka Ball with a reversal HP Seismo (and only a reversal). The timing isn’t Super Turbo strict, so it’s worthwhile to note.

I guess I’ll browse the forum harder for anti-Zangief tips, since apparently this is a really problematic match-up. But any new input is very appreciated; that’s the one I’m worried about the most.

I think Focus Attack comes in handy as well, if you start to limit the amount of Blanka balls. He will start to slide a little bit more, so Focus Attack and hitting him back can hurt him, but it should be used sparingly to keep him on his toes. Also, I believe that if he tries to do diagonal Blanka Ball, jumping WK can take him out of it, even EX version… as long as you are higher than him and stick it out before he touches you. If I remember correctly, Focus Attack also can absorb the diagonal Blanka Ball (his horizontal Ball is his Armor Breaker). This should take the guesswork out of wondering which way to block, and it should be done like clockwork because of the slow start-up of the diagonal ball.

If you see Blanka do a slower horizontal Blanka Ball, jump back and hit WK or do WK Burning Kick because he will try to throw you afterwards. This is particularly true in the start of the round. It gets predictable once you start limiting his Ball use because of Seismo punishment.

How do you use viper against people who don’t think? her feints seem useless against people who dont think at all

Against people who don’t think, meaning mindless scrubs?

c.mk - mp TK to condition them to block low, walk in and grab. Rinse and repeat. Throw in a mp TK feint or F + MP for the lulz if you want. That’s my anti-mindless scrub tactic with her.

any matchup info on dictator and guile?

C Viper vs Guile is one of my favorite match ups. I play Dagger_G a lot and what usually always happens is that we play the seismo vs sonic boom game.

When Viper is more then full screen away from Guile and you want to get in, you should constantly throw hp seismo feints to scare guile into throwing a sonic boom. The hp seismo wont hit if guile is exactly the furthest distance away. The hp seismo will hit if he throws a sonic boom, or walks forward slightly. I think this method is the safest way to corner guile and maintain pressure at the same time even though your full screen away.

-If viper guesses right and throws a real seismo to hit guile, SJC and your in. If guile quick rises, throw out your hk and continue pressuring him.
-If guile keeps walking or jumping backwards and you think he wont throw a sonic boom, slowly creep your way in by walking foward a bit and seismo feinting.
-Make sure when your feinting, that you keep in mind that his EX sonic booms are very fast and try your best to jump over them.
-If you miss your hp seismo, guile can ex sonic boom so watch out. If you put him in block stun, guile can’t do anything, SJC from the blocked seismo into anything you want.

How does one effectively set up Vipers crossup tricks? I know what they are but could anyone give a few situations where using them would be appropriate? I was winning for awhile with them but now I get AAed out of my jumps so I figured I’m using them wrong, but I don’t know how to use them.

Secondly I guess is does anyone have seismo tips? Should I even use them midscreen? Or feints to try and get them to jump? So far its been seeming more and more risky to me if it doesn’t hit

Both of her throws
Anti-Air FP TK (x2)
Any EX Seismo combo ending with a flame kick
Anytime you land a flame kick

Pro tip- If Boxer s jumping in on you really close, you can sweep him on reaction to beat all his jump ins(tested vs all different timings of j.rh)

LOL!

if you want to get super theory fighter, yo can do a c.mk xx ultra!

I’ve been having major troubles trying to use :qcb::ub:+:hk: or :qcb::ub::u::uf:+:hk: …the only way I can use an instant jump Burning Kick is to do a normal jump and do the qcb+k motion as soon as possible, but this telegraphs to my opponent exactly what I’m trying to do.

Any pointers? Help!

I usually do :qcf::uf::hcb:::hk: You have to be somewhat quick but it works easily everytime.

Your success rate on that? I’ll try that sometime.

I always just do :db::uf: and then :qcb: the moment I see her start her jump animation.

Those are pretty much the same thing, so I’ll give them a try. Thanks guys, seems just like a practice issue.

Hello, all, noob here. Actually, I’ve loved the sf series since I first saw crowds of people around a sf2 machine in the the early 90s, but have only recently thought about playing it competitively (pretty late and ambitious, I know). I won’t waste anymore time though by blabbing on about trivial things, but I will say that I <3 C. viper, though she’s quite a tough one to learn.

Here in Buffalo, NY, we have 2 mediocre dictator players (I say mediocre because we’re all pretty much on the same page, aka slightly intermediate skill levels). Scissor kicks are their best friend, and afaik it seems fairly safe, and anytime I block, it seems I’m perfectly set up for them to string again into another sk. I’ve read that ex seismo has some invincibility frames on start up, so if they were to s. rh, mk or cr jab me, is there a good chance ex seismo will beat those out? If i don’t have ex to burn, and I block a sk, am I better off retreating with a hjc bk, or maybe poking? Dictator’s pokes seem vastly superior to Viper’s, so methinks that isn’t a viable option.

Also, they love ex stomp on wake up, and in general spamming d,u+p in the corner. I always think to fa the stomp, but never remember to because it seems risky, so maybe backdash to create a whiff? Maybe some fp seismos while they’re spamming d, u+p in the corner will keep them on their toes, though I’d have to worry about messing up 2x seismos or sj bk lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also Abel advice too. Can’t seem to do anything when he starts that string into the grab. Maybe I can interrupt in between the strings on block or something? Command throw is a bitch too lol.

Lastly (sorry this is so long!), though I find it way easier when doing 2 or 3x seismos to do the dp, uf+p versions than the df, df, u version, I did read though that when doing the c. hp, tk fp feint, c. hp, ex seismo that it MAY be easier to do df, df pp instead of the dragon punch motion (i tend to get the super if i have a full meter o_O). If that works consistently for me, then maybe I’ll have to change how I do multi seismos lol.

Remind me to take your advice to heart. Thank you so much. I just got rocked by a good Boxer player in a tournament today, and I’ve been really worked up about it.

Does anybody else have any tips against Boxer? Maybe it’s just because I’ve had very little prior Boxer experience, but I got destroyed. What works well against him?

Well I would like more info on Boxer vs. C.Viper as well. I’m a Boxer player and I have no idea how to fight against C.Viper. I just do some standard rush down and seem to win, but I don’t have any real in depth knowledge. The problem with the statement above is that Boxer players rarely jump.
