C.viper Arcade / DLC changes SSF4

I know wot’s up with that anyway? i’m sure this is like the 3rd time he’s referenced viper as top tier, why doesn’t he use her already?

@LainSky, looking forward to it man, some serious feedback and info from an actual viper user! what I want to no is confirm th hitbox range on c.mk , check if her bk’s or tk’s have any frame advantage added and to see how low u can cross up bk a crouching opponent!

yea that 1 interview he goes on about how ryu will suck against fei and 2 others (yun/ynag i think), and he said, with 1 or 2 bad matchups its ok, but when one has too many bad matchups its bad. Even brouhgt up how fei sucks against rog, chun, and…honda? i dont remember…
ummm…viper sucks against rog, gief, and honda…probably a lot more too…like fei etc… so i have no clue

lol I really wish someone would ask him to elaborate on why he is so scared of Viper, or why on earth he thinks she is anything but mid tier.

Mago also made a comment about how he fears Viper because of her strong mix up game, which is just ridiculous. Her mix up game is maybe 1/4 as scary as Cammy’s, and I don’t hear them talking about her.

The game seems even more boring after reading all the news and the Daigo interviews. I mean, I wanted her bad match ups to get better, but they just went overboard and took too much of the threat out of some characters. Guile and Dhalsim for one are going to be mad free now, that was really overkill.

All around though I think Viper definitely did move up the tier list. She really wins her good match ups now, and her really bad match ups only got better, even if it was minuscule. I for one actually think Giefs EX hand not knocking down is all win for Viper, nothing could be worse in that match up than a knock down opportunity for Gief, and without that it has to be a positive change for us.

When someone said that “Seth says that he doesn’t like the changes that they made to Viper”, I was thinking of only nerfs.
Fuck that shit. Viper’s buff as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

First, retain her TK game, except make her lpTK a couple frames faster, so you can go through fireballs more easily, and use it to AA a little more easily.
Second, give her footsies - she has a faster far mk, faster far hk, and faster f+hk. I didn’t get much of a chance to play, so I didn’t get to experiment too much. I will give you guys more stuff on Monday night on normals.
Third, keep the seismos the same, if not a tiny bit faster. I will double check this on Monday as well.
Fourth, her U2 is significantly better - comes down super fast, and hitbox actually seems to cover the downward divekick range. Like David said, I prefer U1 for the damage… but now you can hit U2 after you hit with an EX seismo at max range. Just throwing that out.

Last, this is the only nerf that Viper seems to have gotten - her air BKs seem to come out a couple (2?3?) frames slower, and hitbox is a bit smaller than before. I will double check this on Monday as well, but that’s what it seems like so far.

Go on, brainstorm, but Viper = top tier in my opinion. Daigo wasn’t kidding.

with that said, I’m playing Makoto.

PS: I think what Seth said means that he doesn’t like the fact that Viper has turned into a character like everyone else. She was unique in that she had no footsies, but she still had a very strong mix-up game once she got in. Now, BK mixup seems much weaker, and her footsie game seems more solid. I’ll have to play around with her a little more to be completely sure, but I will let you guys know.

So when you say that BKs feel a little slower, how does that affect the overall timing? Also, since the box is smaller do you find yourself missing crossups more?

The overall timing is virtually unchanged - it’s not even a major change in timing, tbh.
I found myself missing both crossups and in-front bk’s… but I could’ve just been sloppy. I will confirm all of this on Monday, and let you guys all know.

The bk nerf is bugging me a little but I hope its not a significant change that will some how mess up her mix up game

Lainy check a few things for me.

Trade TK properties. In the video of Viper vs Guy Viper trades FTK with one of guys jump ins and she did a back flip instead of a reel. It looked like trade FTK, SJC BK or dash in FTK/Ultra 1 is gone. It could have also been caused because she already lifted off from the ground during the AA not sure I didn’t look at the video in detail.

Check the start up frames, frame advantage on hit, and hit boxes of the rest of her normals specifically c.strong and c.forward.

Do Jab and Strong TK feel like it’s still just +1 on hit or do you think there’s some additional frame advantage to it.

1:37 in that vid shows viper can still trade into U1, or SJC bk!! Also, reaaallly hoping they didn’t nerf her bk shenanigans

Next time I’ll be able to play AE will be on Monday. It was hard to gather information yesterday playing against Tatsu, Ultradavid, Sanchez, and AndyOCR. Hopefully, Monday will give me time to mess with random shits.

It could just be how he “feels” it playing on the cabinet. It probably hasn’t been changed at all, going from console to AE response time is different, don’t count any of his statements for 100% accuracy.(not to offend you Lainy) also Viper still has all trade options from FTK, everything is virtually unchanged.

Yes, everything I say is under my perception. It could be right, or it could just be the placebo effect.
Only things I can tell you for sure for sure are the U2 and hk buffs, but that’s significant enough to bump up a tier.

Stand hk is a good AA if you see a jump coming so I would appreciate that speed buff. Do you really believe viper is kinda buff now though?

Viper had a very hard time due to her inability to play a grounded game without taking lots of risks, which has been remedied. She had no other real problems. Now you should never be losing as long as you - the Viper player - don’t fuck up.
Bison’s still gonna give her a hard time, though.

my thoughts exactly. I am skeptical of any of these changes, except for bk nerf.
Its just really hard to tell the difference of 1 or 2 frames of normals when you played it a few times.
I still bring back the c.mp of how it was buffed with super speed…yet it was a hit box buff even though that 90% of vipers swore it was faster.
yea, not offending Lainy, i mean it may be true, but take them with a grain of salt.

but u2 and s.hk is good enough for a tier jump?
hk is good but doesnt work on everyones jump ins. U2 is a non factor?
