C-Royd teaches 3rd Strike

Hi everyone so I’ve been talking about this for a few weeks with some others on SRK and other sites and I got some requests to make tutorial videos. I basically just used my shitty capture card and did some shit and then i decided i’d do some commentary over it seeing how i’m not actually aware on how to put pictures on the screen. or whatever.

So i could actually use some help on making these videos better. I’m downloading Premier right now and i’m actually tech savvy so I’m sure i’ll figure something out.

Please comment on the videos in the actual youtube sites. And if you could, please like/subscribe/share.

If you can find a way to get any of my videos on the frontpage of any specific website, fucking do it. I love seeing my name whored out.

3s is an old game, but I still love it…

…because I believe

Informative vid buddy, thanks for the shoutout!!! :smokin::smokin::smokin:

<3 you!

thats dope man. let me know if i can help out in any way.

Much appreciated.

Awesome!!! Thanks a lot for this!!

Very cool man. I wanted to do something of the sorts for awhile but couldnt get my hands on a capture card. I love that you chose UOH, as it really is something unique to the SF3 franchise. Since these videos are aimed at learning 3s, you should consider explaining footsies, if its a player migrating from SF2/4 where projectile spacing is more important than actual poke spacing, they will struggle until they are beat down hard for shooting hadoukens or trying to SRK jump-ins.

P.S - Sony Vegas is more user friendly imo, if you’re just getting into video editing Premier can be a little overwhelming.

Nice video C-Royd. I twittered it for you: Twitter

this should be filled with jumping short/jab AA after parry. i thought i invented that tech until i heard croyd using that since 2001

Awesome. Really helpful stuff to get down the spacing. Super appreciated.

Something that might be too beginnerish but that I think would be helpful is a video explaining where and why you preemptively parry. Like during jump ins, after certain whiffed moves, after certain blocked moves. Why you should (almost) never parry on wakeup (unless you see it coming and react).

I find newer players don’t understand how to use parry effectively. It isn’t surprising since it’s such a flexible and powerful part of the game. I think if someone who knows their shit explains and examines those moments in 3s where a parry is an excellent guess (because if it catches something you can combo or at least knockdown and if it doesn’t there’s very little the opponent can do to capitalize on your bad guess) vs moments where you have a more than 50% chance of failure and eating big damage. That would probably go a long way to educating new players on where parry is appropriate and why and where it isn’t and why not.

Thanks again. Very straight forward and understandable video. It’s good to stress the point that people learning these things needs to understand WHY it works, not just that it works.

I’d like to thank everyone for their feedback. I’d like to get this on eventhubs front page or something if anyone knows how I can do that; I’m basically trying to build encouragement and hype for 3S since it’s getting a second wind with 3sOE coming out. I know it’s a dead game right now but i’d like to log into PSN or Live and play against really good players and I figure these videos may help!

And i’m also a media whore and therefore love seeing my name displayed in various places. YAHHHHH

This would be great for the next video.

Also explaining the the thought process/mechanics going on with parrying something like a cr.MK etc starter move, but not being caught by the super if the other guy goes ahead with it anyway.

Like how in lower level play people either block the whole thing, or parry and immediately punish, so the other guy starts cancelling into super anticipating that. Whereas you’ll see top players parry the cr.mk and rarely get caught by the super if it comes.

I know that seems straightforward but I’d like to hear someone go over it in a little bit of detail.

Oh wow, this was a great watch. Thanks for the info ;D

Good stuff dude. Do more.

Nominated.

Also, I think Metric is on point about focusing on things exclusive to Third Strike.

Good idea.

also nominated.

Nominated, rated 5. I’d also rep the shit out of your post if it was still around.

Good stuff C Royd! If you end up following with UOH pt.2 soon, perhaps a mention about kara UOHs (both forwards and backwards)? Kara UOHs can be very useful for spacing.

the audio sounds like you’re in county and you’re telling me 3S theory over the phone/prison 3S.

which is awesome.
