"By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!" The Doctor Strange Thread!

No.

I agree that this sucks, but it may be used as a keepaway tool since experienced players would know to run away from it in order to receive less hits, thus giving you more time to set up graces. At least that’s how I see it. This tactic is similar to what us dorm players do w/ stalking flare, just a little differently. Dorm and strange are similar because the more time they are given the more threatening they become.

if it didn’t lose strength over time it would be so utterly insanely OP.

As it is, I think eye and impact palm were basically built to be used on their own, then somebody decided to give it a cool special effect.

Looks amazing to me. Ever thought about canceling the impact palm into teleport after pushing the eye? That’s like Phoenix throwing a TK Shot H and teleporting at the same time.

Like that’s what I’m trying to tell people about Strange. He basically gets Phoenix mix ups at a faster rate than Phoenix. Dude is going to be sick.

^this. or cancel Palm into another one of his projectile specials if that doesn’t catch your fancy. OR palm+call assist then teleport/another projectile.

can’t imagine how to deal with a big yellow ball slowly following you and some weirdo with white hair rushing at you from the other side of the screen while you’re dealing with Mr. Sexy Man Legs’ sexy mixups.

A little over a minute in the video…LI Joe discusses some of the characters he likes. Being a high level player he goes into how Strange will be much more of an offensive character than people realize. It’s the whole “the more you get zoned the more you get rushed” thing.

Play Hawkeye if you wanna just chuck shit. Strange is gonna go in.

totally down with that. I don’t even remember the last time I played keepaway with Doom.

He then says that he got strange killed nearly every time he played him sooooo

I find it funny that they buffed Doom’s projectiles in Ultimate, but at the same time his j.:s: buff makes any zoning playstyles for him moot point. Why zone with finger lasers and butter guns when that single normal pays off so greatly for him now?

On the subject of Stephen I tend to agree that he looks to play like a Phoenix-tized Dormammu. I was contemplating for a while about what assist to use for cross-up shenanigans because I never made that correlation right away (although I’m sure he’s still going to appreciate the Plasma Beam, Vergil too lol).

I laugh every time I see a Dormammu online trying to keep me out with Dark Holes and Purification without even charging hands, it’s like buying a car because you wanna listen to the radio… Strange might be the same way, waves of scrubby netplayers spamming Grapes & Daggers and not even bothering with teleport mixups because they think they can play like Lambda or something. It’s gonna be fun to blow them up

Isn’t that obvious?

How am I supposed to not “chuck shit” with a character that has all projectile special moves?

I mean obviously you’ll want to get in sometime but given his low health I wouldn’t want to approach the enemy without some grapes/avacado cover setup beforehand

^ Your taking that line too literal.

Probably…

He said anybody he played that was new he got killed which includes Vergil, Nemesis etc. It’s just he didn’t have a whole lot of time to use the new characters when people were running Vanilla characters. Even if you’re Clockwork, Floe, Jago etc. you’re going to have a hard time winning if you’re using all new people vs. some guy running old shit.

I was just pointing out that he realizes the actual way Strange will be played and there’s way too many people who think he’s just Hawkeye with pretty feet. He will open you up plenty fast and all it will take is putting shit on the screen basically. His more powerful stuff like the graces will take some learning an average Strange who knows how to get discs and agomottos on the screen will still open people up and land damaging combos quickly.

To the guy interviewing LI Joe (and way too many other people), no.

I am worried about Strange’s beam. Its his only beam move and if Dormammu can duck it with ease…pretty much every character can. And which means, Joe, Ammy, probably Zero and a few others can pretty much just walk under it without even having to duck. (+ He fires it twice pretty slowly so thats a free punish)

And that might pull some away from using his beam assist too. Most players as far as I know crouch block instinctively for the obvious reason that you’ll block everything but overheads who are usually slower = Auto-whiff when using his assist in certain situations. His disks are good too though but Id like a good beam.

Also you guys think Dr. Strange can use his counter projectile super Vs Assists? That’ll be so insane.

Im thinking for my Strange team…

Strange/Zero/Sent

Strange + Sent just seems like the ultimate annoying pindown.

Just thought I’d leave this here for you guys…

I wouldn’t worry about it, I don’t think the Bolts will be that important for Strange’s gameplan. Nobody’s gonna sit down and chuck beams at Strange when he can just counter hyper them, and like it’s been stated before Strange probably shouldn’t be trying to win the zoning game for extended periods of time anyway. He’ll be fine the swords, the graces, the eye, and the discs.

Though I guess you could probably catch a few people sleeping and fire Bolts -> XF -> Overhead teleport to catch the crouchers.

The whole point is you get an instant approach once you zone them out any way. Land a combo, set up grapes, set up another mix ups with discs/agomotto/assist etc. You want them pushed out so you can get in.

You realize Strange has like 8 special moves and they’re all projectiles right? You act like that’s the only one he has.
Mystic Sword is your main zone tool when you just need something to zone and poke with period. It comes out so fast and has enough durability that it’s akin to poking with a c.L or s.L with a standard character.

Bolts will most likely be used to keep people from jumping. Sure they’re going to crouch but they’re definitely not going to be doing ANYTHING but crouching. No jumping, no dashing (unless it’s like Ammy) etc. Call another horizontal or projectile assist to cover the start up/recovery of the bolts and keep them from jumping, then teleport in during recovery. Actually what’s even better is that bolts is NOT a special move so you can call an assist any time early or late during the projectile to cover it then teleport after and create left/right while keeping them from moving.

I agree that bolts as an assist won’t be too necessary unless you’re playing a lame out team. Discs or Agomotto will be better for rush.

Projectile counters in Vanilla counter assists so you can imagine any projectile based assist will get blown up by 7 rings also.
