"By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!" The Doctor Strange Thread!

I feel he’ll be pretty solid annoying character. Low HP and low damaging hyper 1’s aside…advanced characters don’t dominate tourneys.

Not saying he’ll suck, because I don’t think he will…but easy characters like Dante and Wesker might still beat him out in the end. It just seems the herp derp stuff from easier characters work out more in the end then say Vipor or Mags…which is why I consider Strange being similiar in that vein.

I believe they already stated that the Fight Club would have strange playable.

Not early in the game’s life but down the road they do. Like Dante in mvc3, or viper in ae, and eventually she would have been top in mvc3 too.

Maybe he has some easy abusable stuff too, aside from advanced tactics.

Dante was there from day 1 until now. He just got a little bit better over time.

yeah. marns day 1 dante combo into million dollars xf million dollars for the kill… that was PRE day 1.

Oh Dante…how we loathe you so.

Bull crap! I never get tired of seeing Dante and those Smokin’ Sick Comboes!

Can’t wait to play as DS, such a cool character in the comics; can’t wait to see how well it translates into battling =D

Yeah, I can’t really put my finger on it but something about him immediately made me think of Trish and the of them possibly being amazing together. I think it’s that Strange looks like a trap character but I’m not really convinced he sets up traps, I think they’re just slow and/or stationary projectiles that he can set in a specific location to zone. But I can kind of imagine Strange projectiles with Trish traps set up being rage inducing.
Despite Strider looking “cool” to me, Strange is (so far) the only new character I could see myself dropping a current main for.

I will be using DS for his onion ring assist. He looks like a good 2nd or 3rd char for my team.

I think once you place 3 Graces of Hoggoth, Doctor Strange automatically fires the beam if you imput the GoH motion again. If you do Flames of Faltine however, the beam will crumple once it passes through the GoH Glyphs. Unlike the green fire, the (purple) FotF beam can be fired independant of the Glyphs… ehh if that makes any sense.

Makes sense to me any way.

Double beam assist looks good for Zero and Strider

Yeah, I’m really looking foward to that assist and it’s possibilities. Hopefully it’ll end up as a cooler looking Sentinel Force Assist. Use that with Hienkyaku/ Murakumo? Ugh… dirty crossups galor.

EDIT: I wonder if Strider can call assist while using Ouroburos? If so he’ll be even more dirty with Bolts of Balthakk assist.

His little triangular balls stays on forever, literally it seems.

(Another thing that SRK failed to alert me to for some reason. I still don’t understand how this system works…)

Figures there would be a stream the day that I’m gone and then pretty much crash when come home. Eh, not that I can watch streams on this computer, though.

Good to confirm.

So Eye of Agamotto is his other assist and might share the same motion as Dishs of Denak? Interesting…

Hmm…if that’s the case, then I wonder if he “only” has one count since that Illusion physical counter seems like it put off a yellowish glow and it would eliminate some of the overlap.

Perhaps. That or trying to bait the other person to use Seven Rings of Raggador first and then countering with your own Seven Rings of Raggador.

As other people have said already, yes, it does.

Hunh. Kinda tempted to make a Strange/Joe/Phoenix now just because.

Yeah, pretty much guaranteed to happen. Personally, I have no attachment to any other characters that are supposedly left, though, so while wanting to see what they can do and “hoping” that they’re worth the spot they’re taking away from another character, I’m highly doubt I’ll end up bandwagoning anyone else.

Maybe Virgil if I ever get around to playing that used copy of the special edition Devil May Cry 3 I bought a couple of months ago, but I’m in for the “long” haul with regards to Strange (and Nemesis and Hawkeye).

Damn. I thought I fixed that already. I’ll go do that now.

In yesterday’s stream Niitsuma-san did say that Strange was the character they spent the most effort on; Marvel checked him a lot more strictly than the other characters. And Strange was his favorite in the roaster as a result, he was the problem child that turned out to be a success. So Strange being the highest tiered of the new characters shouldn’t come as a surprise.

No one knows how advanced/easy Strange is… from what I see I doubt he will be any more advance than Dormammu. He has no air dash and most of his specials doesn’t seem to be combo specials. He probably wouldn’t be a combo manic, more likely a character with a ton of tools and one you need to be smart and creative with to be successful.

(Okay, so that Astral Magic thing was fixed. Thanks for putting the names in the OP already, maziodyne.)

Has it been confirmed has no airdash? Or are we just basing that off the fact he wasn’t been dashing around the screen like a maniac yet?

Has anyone considered that he might only have airdash in flight mode? I mean, it would sort of make sense, since some people went out their way to compare him to M.O.D.O.K., to also have an atypical flight mode given how many other atypical things he has.

Also, Marvel was involved in Strange the most. Hunh. I’m surprised they’re paying so much attention to him for once since I had gotten the impression that they hated the guy almost as much as Cyclops or, at the very least, had no idea what to do with him. That probably means we’ll be seeing a Doctor Strange movie in the next couple of years then…

My feeling is that if he has an air dash we should have seen it already. So it’s likely he has no air dash, which is a good way to balance him.

They depowered him and took away the title of Sorcerer Supreme from him in an effort to turn him from a Gandalf into a Frodo. He has always been a problem for Marvel, he’s popular and well-loved among comic fans but his solo projects always sell poorly, because he’s great as a supporting character but not so great as a main character.

(finishes reading IGN article Ah. Shows how much I keep with movie news.)

Speaking of that NYC event today, do we have anyone that’s going for sure in this thread?

Oh, I agree that him having an air dash would probably be for “the best” (read: balanced). I’d rather not him turn into another braindead tri-jump monster just because.

Still, my question stands since I didn’t see the stream: Would be possible any airdash-capability he has tied only to his flight mode? Regardless, I could see his flight mode being really good he doesn’t have an airdashes even in that mode.

Which goes back to what I said about how I’m surprised even made it because it’s been clear to me every since that rogue Avengers team he was on that Marvel has no idea what the hell to do with him. Given that they don’t seem to make rules even for the most simple things, that’s not exactly surprising.

It’s also why I linked to MGK’s “I Should Write Dr. Strange” blog posts earlier.
