For everyone whose playing on these sticks
how will you be mapping your controls?
i was thinking something like this: (very SF’ish)

That’s my exact layout.
i have a stick with a MK layout, but when i use my stick with a 6 button layout. i use this pseudo MK layout. i’m used to having the block button in the center.
FP BLK BP
FK Flip BK
FP BLK FK
BP Flip BK Tag
how does it feel???
You could play UMK3 on MAME with that layout and find out first hand.
Feels fine, takes a little bit to get used to the X-ray positioning, but otherwise you’ve got easy access to all of your main buttons without having to move your fingers very much from standard hand positioning.
yea but UMK3 has a run button
which destroys the whole point…
Cool, since i play mostly SF on stick
i think this way will feel most at home for me!
MKII then
I played the demo on a madcatz te…
TAG FP BP EMPTY
BLK FK BK EMPTY
I like the block on the left offset button so I could keep my thumb on it. I thought that layout worked the best if you have to use a SF layout. It’s also still easy to hit all 3 buttons for your X-Ray.
Confused how the game is designed for 6 buttons but played it with a TE yesterday and the “trigger” buttons have functions.
This is the default:
Front punch = Square
Back punch = Triangle
Front kick = X
Back kick = Circle
Throw = R1
TAG = L1
Block = R2
Flip stance = L2
You can throw by pressing FP + FK. You can Change Stance by pressing FK + BK (+ BLK for X-Ray). It is only a 5 button game. 6 if you’re playing Tag.
So I wonder why a few folks have the flip as a dedicated button? Some “mk person” at my game center said flip was cosmetic anyway. In any event I think your layout makes the most sense and spares me the brainfart of having a different “roundhouse” command.
your not gonna ever play the 2v2? The “run” button is your tag button.
change stances does nothing. it was said on the machinima stream a few days ago as a remnant of a game mechanic they decided not to implement. i also have played the retail version and can confirm changes stances does nothing except make your character dance around
ive been using
FP BP TAG
FK BK BLK
but im thinking i may switch to
TAG FP BP
BLK FK BK
my hands (or brain?) keeps wanting to hit the 3rd button button on the bottom row to do a kick and its messing me up lol. either way i would put block on the bottom row so you can easily hit all 3 in a row for x-ray
This’ll be my layout.
The TE default is easy to get use to:
FP BP THR
FK BK BLK
I didn’t use there other buttons. You could button map your buttons, but the way the game options has it is 1>2>3>4 and it doesn’t really tell you what buttons are what. You have to go to the main menu settings to check it out and custom map them to your preference.

I haven’t tried this. Can you do that by default? I mean, no extra mapping or anything? in the controller configuration screen I didn’t see anything like that (assigning 2 buttons to a function)
Thank you
It’s a default function of the game, hardmapped to whatever FP+FK/FK+BK happen to be.
You can tag by pressing BP and BK so if you want, you can play it strictly with 5 buttons.
