Button Mapping Discussion Thread

Lol what?

today i tried to different lay outs first one being this.

L M H
E P1 P2

i gotta say i hated it it was so uncomfotarble i couldnt play well i couldnt pull out my x- factor when i needed it it was a hot mess. After that i went with something closer to mvc2 and it helped my game more over all and allowed me to palm into x-factor easier

L M P1
H E P2

even though it helped it still made it a lil harder for me to do a magic series correct i kept trying to do it like mvc2 from top to bottom. in the end i switched medium attack and high attack. It allowed me to do the magic series better with out me messing up.

L H P1
M E P2
In the end with this set imo i felt it closer to mvc2 could do a magic series easier palm into x-factor with out issues.

I’m completely new to Marvel, so I don’t see any reason not to use the “default” stick layout with LMH at the top.

When I use a pad, I think I’m going to use a setup like Cauldrath’s. It’s so intuitive:

X=L
Y=M

LB=H
LT=S

A=1
B=2

Just about everything I can think of will be easier to execute this way on a pad.

Edit

Speaking of button checks, will this game let you just press buttons to map your controls like in SF2, or do you have to toggle around an annoying menu like in SF4?

fight pad =

A B A1
S C A2

PS2 controller =

…B
A…C
…S
L1 = A1
L2 = A2

annoying menu like sf4

this is the current layout i use, which is the most mvc2 friendly in my opinion, with an extra button as l+m+h off to the side to activate xfactor in conjunction with E

Damn =(

Thanks.

That is so disappointing.

This is the layout I use too. Feels closest to MvC2. Hopefully it becomes the standard for stick >_<

I dont think there will be a standard for stick in this game.
This is the first game that doesn’t have an arcade background in terms of button layout, so everyone will just use it as they see fit.

L M H
A1 A2 E

Coming from more Street Fighter this fits me well. I can use just tap the exchange with my pinky and don’t have to really move my hand very much in order to do so. And I could also use my thumb for both assists.

This is very intriguing

More people should be viewing this thread. It will definitely be an issue moving forward. I’m using

M H A1
L S A2

Since I powered up the game, this was the first thing I went to an changed. Feels great and people that have come over have moved to it with no issues. 20 min. learn time.

i might have to try that, after doing some of the missions i notice most air combos start with M rather than L, which is where i mess up most of the time lol

I have always stuck to the default on games. No idea why. I like to make my button checks as fast as possible so its default boom ready.

Don’t have the game yet but feeling out the different combinations on a joystick people have recommended and still gonna stick to default. Feels most natural to me to keep a finger on every major attack and the super fast KFC usage.

I watched a local stream of MVC3 last night and it was the first time I saw the button config menu. Still surprised Capcom didn’t put HDR/MVC2 button config menu in.

i favor the last 6 buttons on the TE-S stick and coming from mvc2, assists on the side feel more normal rather than on the bottom row, but thats just me, still have to get used to the awkwardness of the game though…

yea, i thought they would have a setting for it too, button checks at evo are going to be longer than the matches themselves lol

Coming from BlazBlue, I’ll be using the second default mapping:

L M H
S A1 A2

Feels really confortable to me.

I’m using the default layout of:
L M A1
E H A2

It’s not that bad and it sort of reminds of MvC2, also:
L M A1
H E A2 wasn’t that bad either.

At the place I usually play we are using:

L M H
E A1 A2
