Busted or Bust, lets bet on who/what ends up being broke

I just hate the inability to play a character how I want when I already had an established game for her. Sorry, but when a nerf forces players to completely abandon their game with a character, there’s a problem. Especially when you have characters like Zero and Wesker who are only getting more options.

Well, you can either a) Adapt and find a new gameplan with said character or b) drop the character.

This is the same as the people that were saying that Zero losing loops and losing hard knockdown on his buster would totally nullify the buffs he got.

Wesker is not getting more options…he has less health, can’t braindead combo off gun anymore and basically actually requires thought now. Whatever new options he is getting are not better than what he used to have in Vanilla which was the ability to run the game without using an assist and having way too much health.

We’ve already seen new options for Wesker in Max’s vids, and I’m pretty sure that the speed boost from his low health is going to give him new options in general. Zero has some new cancel stuff or whatever, I don’t know Zero at all.

I’m just pissed that Trish and Tron are getting completely wrecked for no reason.

Those new options for Wesker are of no real significance. They’re just different combo extensions that don’t do any different damage or have any real value. “Wesker can keep shooting you on the ground now instead of launching you…hooray!” I guess. IMO he got the nerfs where he needed them although I think he could stand to have another 100k nerf but I guess his damage output will be more honest now with the XF nerfs.

I can see people complaining about Tron because she didn’t have much. Trish was one of the better characters of Vanilla and her buffs offset her nerfs so I don’t see it.

I disagree. Trish was just barely over the line of being competitive, IMO, but she was well-balanced. She had low health because she could lame you out rather well, but the tradeoff was that one confirm on her lead to death. Now she’s a tremendously limited rushdown character whose risk outweighs the reward, and will probably be tossed into the “worthless” category along with the bottom 2/3 of the cast like Vanilla’s bottom 2/3. They’re taking a competitive character and making her…non-competitive. That’s bad balancing.

I personally don’t think you realize how hard it will be to land clean hits on Trish even with the nerfs, but ok.

I’d like you to name some things about her rushdown that are “tremendously limited” because Chun Li far more has that problem and still has balls for scare factor from a range compared to Trish even with her numerous buffs.

Trish will still be good.

But, did I read the change log wrong, and see that Viper got buffs to her feint?

her ground L and M TK feints at least. H TK feint is now weaker in combos, and her BK feints were better for air mobility anyway. Viper’s damage is still gonna be solid as in Vanilla and she has easy mode fullscreen horizontal beams now in that optic blast move (probably for people who couldn’t seismo chain).

So after watching the entirety of the Paris Manga Cafe UMVC3 Footage I must say that a lot of the older cast members look very viable this time around.

for real. I’m gonna give Dormammu another shot. I always felt that he needed a more offensive edge to balance out his zoning game and thankfully the buffs he received did just that. he looks like a solid A Tier this time around now that he has self-created left right mixups and hit confirms (!).

Dormammu was on my team from Day one along with Thor… they both look much improved as does the Hulk, Chris and Captain America really stand out. I would say dr Doom but that one is a given.

Magneto lost ROM and hyper grav loop (this is still up in the air as to how many reps or whether or not this even works at all, because the untechable knockdown on Mags’ standing fierce made it possible) but the new moves are still pretty scary. I saw one video from September-ish I think, and I’m not sure if it was taken before JWong called for a nerf, but it showed Mags doing Repulsion over and over on a Morrigan player and he couldn’t do anything at all but wait for the time over.

Repulsion doesn’t interrupt animations or stop wavedashes, so spamming it is not a long-term winning strategy.

But Morrigan can’t wave dash. Fight should have ended up Soul Fist vs Disruptor.

It might be with the right assist. You can’t wavedash at a beam assist.

As a Zero player I can attest to this: UMvC3 Zero has a significantly different gameplan than Vanilla Zero.

I’m not going to deny Zero got buffs, but he also doesn’t have a “get in for free card from full-screen” by fishing for a level 3 buster hit any more due to the soft knockdown. He now has to commit going in at some point (and they did give him the tools for doing so, but that’s besides the point) as his keep-away game is all but gone (no more buster level 1 zoning in addition to the soft KND).

He is also now less of a combo character, more of a mixup/reset character due to higher damage scaling, but new and improved cross-ups.

I’m not trying to compare Trish to Zero, but players who were successful with either keep-away Zero or ‘cr.M into TOD’ Zero will have to play differently.

That’s why I feel people will most likely be putting Zero as a straight point character now. Now that he can charge buster before the round starts that’s just screaming point character advantage shit. The game already puts you in the prime position Zero needs to be to kill somebody at the start of the round and now you can mash on throw+assist and have charged buster all scaring them from pressing buttons at the start of the round exactly where you want them.

90% of people who used Zero in Vanilla used him on point anyway. I mean thats definitely where he belongs because his assists suck, and the more assist you had to extend his combos the more damage he could do.

As for who’ll still be on top, I definitely think Magneto and Wesker are still going to be up there. Wesker did not get nerfed, he got a love tap and buffed on top of that. Magneto’s air dash nerfed looked bad at first, but people have already found ways around it to get the same damage output he did in Vanilla. Someone on the Magneto forums also confirmed that the Grav loop is still in, but its harder to combo into and there are less reps. Zero will be really good too, and Dorm is going to be a major pain in the ass. Doom looks strong, but I think he’s getting overrated personally. He just looks easier to play thats all

For new characters I think Strange will be really good on point. My desired team for Ultimate right now is Strange, Magneto, and Sentinel. I can’t wait to pair up the fastest teleport with the fastest beam for insane crossups, and I’m also hoping to find a way to combo into drones which will allow Strange some time to set up his orbs. His zoning just looks absolutely ridiculous too, and I’d bet anything that he will be the top zoner in Ultimate

IMO Wesker overall got nerfed. It’s just he was such a good character that the nerfs won’t really matter that much. None of those buffs he got are actually going to help him more than what was taken away from him. He’s just such a good character that he’ll just still be good regardless.

In comparison to Wolverine who was kinda depending on the things they nerfed on him to be top tier since those few things he had were absurdly powerful.

Strange is going to be really hard to zone because he shuts down everything you can use for zone as long as you have meter with his projectile counter super. Even an assist projectile should get blown up and I definitely rely on an assist projectile for pretty much all of my teams.
