Even last gen due to sponsorship, Evo went Sony with sf4 for the great majority of it’s lifespan even though it was inferior to the 360 version. Even if there was multiple and\or better versions of sfv right now it probably wouldn’t matter because I have no doubts that we’d still be forced to use the shittiest one.
ANd despite there being multiple options in your olden days the clientele would still raise hell about it. So… doesnt that make the current response even more spectacular?
$ponsors can drive the big hype, but classic/alternative ish is still there on the low, with fanbases that are likely still larger than the entire scene was ~10 yrs ago. Not that I think very deeply about it but I dont really buy the argument that this eSports thing is the devil. It seems contrarian for the sake of being so, and of course I still believe that a rising tide lifts all boats; hahaa (and I think that this is borne out by the obvious changes in the FG market and the reciprocal multidirectional FGC growth).
I am no tourney head, but I will be sticking with my old standbys until they fix (call me naive, but I actually think they will).
The thing in this case was more about the fact that the 360 was unreliable for the major part of its lifespan. EVO staff simply didn’t want to deal with the consoles dying on them on regular basis.
Also, both versions had basically the same problems, though the 360 was less noticeable since it happened in 1 or 2 stages less compared to the ps3 version, (due the usual bad port problems that capcom is known for.), still, it is why you always saw players going for the training stage even if a 360 was used.
The Ps3 version ran 1 frame slower than the arcade version while the 360 ran 1 frame faster. It is why many 360 players always claimed that the ps3 version had a 2 frame delay compared to the 360 version.
Fun fact, sfxt runs and performs better on ps3 than 360 since capcom used the ps3 as their 1st arquitecture for that game, instead the 360 like they did for sf4
Also what Combofiend is saying is bullshit. The translation for what was said ABSOLUTELY says that it was an intentional choice. Over in the story thread we’ve got Japanese-readers and it’s been translated by multiple people.
When they were talking about improving communication, did Capcom just mean between themselves? Cuz they can’t even get that straight. Meanwhile, “we’re working to improve communication” and we also still don’t have a release date for the June update and there’s only a week and a half left in the month.
Remember, combo is just the mouthpiece delivering info. But of course they’re lying. They knew about it and it was done on purpose. Its funny because their PR team didn’t get to Sugiyama before the interview to avoid answering the question by giving a vague response.
Anyways, the focus should now shift to them fixing it. Ideally, before Evo, which I’m sure won’t happen in order for players to retain timing. IMO fixing it right after Evo would be great since it would give everyone ample time to adjust.
I certainly don’t doubt that it was actually said that it was intentional. It’s much too jarring a number to be anything but intentional. However, Capcom remains on this damage control shtick, where they are trying to make any controversial subject become at LEAST a mystery, so that it lessons the burden on their already torn image. The fact that 8 frames is literally spoken about in nearly every tournament, be it by players, commentators, or spectators – well, I think they are realizing that unless they want this game to have a constant trailing “8 frames” echo throughout it’s entire competitive life, that they need to change this at some point.
It will likely not be before EVO. Not only do a doubt the ability for Capcom to even figure out their “own code” well enough to fix it that fast, but I also think it’s just not high on their priority list. It will likely be aaaall the way at the end of the CPT, along the (hopefully) many more changes to SFV’s gameplay for season 2.
Reason I think they haven’t announced a date on the next DLC, is frankly because I think Capcom is absolutely struggling to meet that deadline. I am expecting it to launch in shambles. So long as those shambles still allow me to play Ibuki, that’s fine. However, somehow I suspect that since you have to buy characters now, that somehow they’ll fuck that up, and it’ll spend your fight money, but the character won’t unlock and – yeah. Looking forward to raging about it.
LOL @ people thinking there is a chance in hell this will be fixed before Evo. They have literally DOZENS of items that are still broken that were known about at launch that still haven’t even been addressed. We have a “rage quit solution” that they said is “ongoing” that hasn’t even been touched on other than some stupid timeout, which clearly hasn’t done shit. We have countless online modes such as daily challenges that were supposed to be out around April that still aren’t out yet. Then we have characters being delayed due to Capcom being Capcom.
And you think they will actually fix this issue, which just gained traction like a month ago, before Evo?
