Building a Wii arcade stick vs modding one?

I got the choice of buying a tatsunoko vs capcom for £40 and are these good to mod such as replacing with sanwa buttons and stick (as I have spare buttons, case, stick) …or would it be cheaper/or better building one such as buying pcb’s etc…as unsure of the Wii’s inner workings?

Thanks any help appreciated

Get the tvc stick and replace the buttons and stick with better parts. The tvc stick is a madcatz se so yes its easy to mod.

As long as you only want it working on the Wii, then yeah - the TvC sticks are really good to mod, but already come with much better parts than the original SE sticks.

That’s great to know thanks guys

Back in the day I ended buying a tatsunoko vs capcom stick but wanted a second stick. So I took an we case I had and wired it up with a hori Wii pcb. Both worked great. I agree the stock parts on the tatsunoko stick are pretty good. I didn’t replace any in mine

So did you replace the madcatz pcb with the hori pcb and for what reason?. I’m unsure whether there’s typo’s in your post or I’m not grasping what your saying lol

Yes sorry about the typos. What I meant to say was I took a madcatz se (standard edition fightstick that was for a ps3)which I bought broken. I used that case and found a hori Wii pcb and wired it up to that. That stick also got full sanwa upgrade.

I have four wii sticks, mostly for nba jam, tvc, and the virtual console stuff.

I never liked how the wiimote flopped around on the “wireless” retail sticks, so my design has them clip in. For wired versions like my pokken sticks, the wire stows in the same way.

If you want to diy a little, it comes up pretty good.

ausomecrawl I’ll keep my eyes open for separate pcb’s and case’s because sounds like it could be economical if i do find them cheap

Cubits …holy shit that’s crazy AF. Took diy to another level :)…when I get back home I’ll have a look through your videos, shame you live in Australia (not a shame really as it’s about a million x better than here) because I know here in UK a lot of people would go to purchase those custom builds but shipping and custom charges/taxes can be a nightmare! I do like the idea of the wiimote not hanging!

Also I mainly use the wii for the neogeo emulators and notice they set the ‘kick’ buttons on top ’ Y- X’ and ‘punch’ buttons underneath ‘B-A’

Oh yeah, those neo geo controls drive me nuts! When we settle in for a night of neo geo i actually switch the wires around in the sticks.

The wii u lets you remap the controls, but they never brought the games over.

And the one neo geo game i missed on the wii, garou, is out on the switch. I’ve been eyeing off making some switch sticks, but can’t justify gutting pro controllers for the pcb. Hopefully that hori wired controller comes out soon.

I’ve got a new flat-pack case kit, just got the first two from the laser cutter yesterday. It builds in minutes and is rock solid. I’ve been looking into having them cut and shipped within the UK as i have loads of family there, i just need to do a little shopping around.

I’ll be back with more concrete details in the trade section in a bit, still sorting the local stuff here.

“They never brought the games over” ?? I thought there was plenty of neogeo games on the wii shop… and wasnt there some snk collections on disc too? I’m currently using a modded wii which has all the neogeo/ neogeoCD/ neogeoPocket roms on …which is a godsend tbh

And as for their controls, technically its not neogeo’s fault ; the wii controller has Y and X on the top then B and A underneath, wouldnt it make sense if Nintendo had it alphabetical order?!? Unless I’m missing something and someone can correct me?

That flat pack is great, when I’m finished paying off a few things soon at home I’ll be keeping an eye on them for sure, I hope you get plenty of custom as they’re very much diy and great for people who find this hobby too daunting… and spend £150+ on some overrated stick! Let me know about shipping when you find out man.

I’ve just been creeping through your imgur and damn there’s some sick artwork on those sticks, where can I get hold of the puzzle fighter art? It is a ps3/4 venom right? As ive been looking for some decent venom art for a while now, and do you have any other venom artwork or know of anywhere I can download high res?

Also guys what’s your thoughts on the tatsunoko EXAR stick

I’ve looked around the forums and it’s pretty much hit n miss with the main problem it being very light? Just wanted some more opinions on it thanks

EXAR Exaprize sticks are very small and light. They take standard 30mm buttons but Seimitsu screw-ins with uninsulated quick-disconnects touched the bottom of the casing from the inside.
It’s tough to mount a JLF at the proper height; I’m not sure that Seimitsu sticks would fit.

Have a look at the older Exaprize thread for some more thoughts and views of the insides.

Maybe a small Seimitsu stick like a LS-56

I’ll post this in here rating than opening a new thread:

I got my tatsunoko wii stick through and it looks like it’s been modded which may be a good thing, I’m opening it up shortly. However the artwork is damaged on the front. I know this is similar to a SE but the curvature at the bottom looks different (slopes down slightly under your palms)…how would I go about replacing art work. Theres no plexiglass and the image is printed onto what seems to be a hard surface?

Vinyl print or lamilable

Thanks man I’ll look into that.

So I got the madcatz wii stick and a wiimote to pc adapter was attached to it.

Also the buttons had been rearranged (but not upgraded unfortunately ) lol.

Anyone know what these are…if you look between the wires you can see the playstation symbols on the black plastic ???

My TvC stick had the same button terminal.

What the hell? Why would it have all 8 playstation symbols on??? I thought the guy before me put it there considering his wiring was crazy AF.

That is the button distribution board. Its standard in most Mad Catz Sticks.
All it does is act as a terminal strip for your button wiring.
Ground is already shared with the bottom row, except for KGnd (start and select)

Mad Catz made a PlayStation and Xbox versions of the board, they didn’t make one for the Wii.
They just reused the PS version for your stick. Otherwise its the same part.
