Bugs_bunny.gif keeps looking better and better: Florida thread

Doesn’t matter. Everybody loves Stevie. He still carries a lot of weight as a legendary elder statesman of music.

I don’t think so. Florida is like Japan’s malevolent, crazier brother. Instead of being a constant supplier of weird shit, Florida has a steady flow of shit like what you see here.

lol. Don’t be so sure. Stevie could get set up since he’s blind. My man would be opening the door to get into his car, next thing you know, Stevie’s dead and some chick is standing over him with an uzi saying “she caught a peeping tom entering her house and acted in self-defense.”

Then, in no particular order…

The cops will make an arrest ,
The trolls will stir shit up online,
Al sharpton will make an appearance, complete with a deck full of race cards, to stir shit up even further,
The media will turn it into a category 3 shitstorm, if not worse,
someone famous will speak out about how it is such a tragedy, quite possibly make a song from it.
The courts will drag it out as long as there is publicity to be milked from it,
someone or someones will start up a fake internet site to “collect” money for either the accused or the victim…or their family.
Others will make a hastily constructed, completely insensitive, and totally unplayable videogame based on the incident.
FOX news will say something stupid.
The courts will FINALLY render a verdict.
People will hate said verdict and organize a strike, protest, and/or boycott
Random people on the street will get together and sing,"We shall overcome—Dubstep Remix, depending on when it happens.
More trolling online.
Some nameless local gets beat up, shot, stabbed, tasered, hit by a large fish, etc.
Some book deals will be made, and interviews will be held.
A little more trolling online.
and last but not least, We will all get over it at some point. Did I miss anything?

Both happened in Florida, stop trying to inject logic.

Oh my dayum

God, you’re so right, that I want you to be wrong.

Daily Show gets it right again:

Wait wait…how are we even getting this information from Florida? Most of it would likely involve use of the internet.

Man they break the law so WILLINGLY there.

That was absolutely amazing.

Well, it sucked ass when I tried to watch it on Hulu, but when I watched it on Comedy Central’s site (no ads, no glitched-out video player), it was absolutely amazing.

Non hulu link:

They claimed that the other case with Marissa Alexander… that she went after her husband and kept trying to shoot at him… Okay. I keep trying to find where this was said, but… No avail. Anyway, even if this is the case, no one was hurt or injured, but she’s getting 20 years because the SYG law doesn’t apply to a woman trying to fend for her life from her abusive husband, who she had a restraining order on.

Okay Florida. You win. :bluu:

There are very important differences in that case. Are you purposefully ignoring it? She actually left, then came back. That is important as fuck here.

  • I do not agree with her verdict, but get the facts straight.

  • She did have a restraining order, but she was shacking up with him at the time which severely mitigates its effectiveness in court.

  • She only shot once.

  • The reason why the judge said she could not claim SYG is because she left a dangerous situation (the house) to go to her car to arm herself and went back in.

  • She gets 20 years because of Florida’s mandatory sentencing. If a gun is used in a crime it’s 10 years. If the gun is discharged it’s 20.

  • With these being the facts the jury’s hands were a bit tied in what they could and couldn’t do. They were essentially funneled into giving her that sentence.

All of that said the verdict is still bullshit. The logical side of me says the jury and judge were correct. The common sense/moral side says otherwise. To me the punishment does not fit the crime. No one was hurt. She didn’t discharge the gun in commission of some other crime i.e. robbery. The fact that she had a restraining order even though she was violating it still shows that the guy was prone to abusiveness, and it seems a bit… anti- “I’m a gung-ho American with a gun in one hand and the second amendment in another protecting my shit” which Florida seems to be in favor of, that someone isn’t allowed to go into their home and ward off a would be assailant. I wonder how the case would have been different if he were a thief, and she ran outside to get the gun, and then went back in and shot him. It sounds like this jury just didn’t appreciate a gun being used in a domestic dispute.

This is a prime example of why mandatory sentencing is bullshit. You have politician after politician trying to 1-up each other in a pissing contest to show “who’s tougher on crime,” but shades of grey “criminals” in cases like this suffer. How much of a threat is she to society? She gets way more time than someone who breaks into houses. I’d much rather live next to her than a thief, or someone with DUIs on their record. It sounds like she’s only a threat when her and her husband get together. If the justice system were really about justice she MAY be worthy of serving some probation, and there should be a court issued restraining order against both of them. They can only meet under specific circumstances. If that’s violated then they get locked up.

The irony is that if she wanted less time she should have probably just killed him.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN…START YOUR ENGINES!!!

-Starhammer-

That’s old news. He also has no grounds for SYG. Being drunk didn’t help his case any, either. He’ll be convicted.

Clearly this man is innocent.

First of all he was drinking. This means that he was more likely to be agitated and in fear of his life. Secondly the teens were playing loud music at the time. This created a heightened air of confusion. Furthermore, he clearly isn’t a fan of “thug music.” He’s unfamiliar with it, so he most likely mistook a threatening lyric or sound effect within one of the songs for an attempt at harm on his person. In addition to this it was late at night and these were dark skinned individuals. It’s difficult to discern what type of gestures they were making in such a situation. We also have to consider that playing loud music is a public nuisance. Loud “thug music” to someone who doesn’t appreciate it can be threatening and an affront to one’s ears. Finally he was one man approaching a vehicle wherein the inhabitants had him outnumbered. Surely this is a situation which warrants having a firearm handy so as to negate the numbers advantage of those in the SUV.

Why Florida is so damn stupid?.. I don’t wanna go there anymore.

Just do what Stevie Wonder is doing and avoid any state with an SYG law. The mentality required to produce such a law is not a mentality you want to be around.

Thanks for the clarification. I was trying to look online for what you said but, I guess I was putting in the wrong key words and getting nothing but bullshit. Like an article of said husband saying he was “fearing for his life” and that she had a gun pointed to his head with his kids by his side. I was like, “Dis nigga…” Now, with all that being said, it makes things worse. Honestly, a mandatory sentencing of 20 years for discharging a gun that didn’t even hit anyone? That’s just idiotic.

I guess she could’ve done something else instead of going back in with a gun. I think anyone in that situation, especially a female in an abusive situation, would want to do something to put the fear in their their attackers so they can back the fuck up and leave them alone. I mean, shit…

That’s an old story is now getting attention again due to the Trayvon verdict, and it’s just as fucked up.
