"Yesterday marked a huge step for Floridians…Our Alimony Reform Bill SB718 which was the Senate version was adopted by the House and then voted on yesterday and by a vote of 85 to 31 passed! Now on to Governor Scott for signing and it becomes law…
The bill does amazing things but it’s not over yet! This bill ends the forever, permanent financial slavery of alimony paid by one former spouse to another. It changes the definitions of terms of length of marriage. It says to attorneys, here are guidelines you must follow now so stop being blood sucking vultures and prolong litigation to fund your mercedes. Most importantly it gives the presumption of 50/50 custody.
This is a huge victory, but we still have to change certain things about it like non modifiable MSA’s…they didn’t get any relief even tho I would venture to say those MSA’s were done under duress and a hopeless fear of litigation going on and on and on…
So, please join me in celebrating this victory. We still have more states in which need legislation such as this like NJ…which we will work on next and then on to the nations capital!
It was exciting to see people stand for what’s right and get things changed…it’s only by those of us who have lived these horrors that our truth sets us free.
