First round - pinned in corner for an entire 33 seconds… fu*ck this, luckily EX Tigerknees out lol.
Second round - pinned in corner in the first 7 seconds… TU >Fadc’s , hits. Is out of corner for an entire 4 seconds, pinned right back into corner until outfootsied to death.
Final Round - pinned in corner in the first 10 seconds… gets out of corner for 4 seconds then is pinned back in corner. Gets out of corner with another lucky EX Tigerknee. Promptly dies from being outfootsied again.
I’m not tryna disagree I do find myself in the corner in some match. But that’s the players fault. In that replay the sagat was so scared of the jump he kept spacing himself until he ran out of space. & Daigo didn’t jump any round lol
… and then as soon as people realise you can fairly easily punish FADC backdash too, the only option will be… err… I don’t know what we’re supposed to do.
I’m kind of surprised by how well people have taken the DP FADC nerf in general. That’s a massive thing to take away from a character, and especially one like Sagat who is already susceptible to being rushed down.
IMO, they need to give Sagat his SF4 stand short back. Flat out. That is the bare minimum they could do given the nerfs he’s received. Play someone like Gouken (who isn’t even that strong) and look at the type of damage output you can get off a single cross-up and one bar and Ultra. We’re talking 500+. Meanwhile, Sagat barely breaks 300+ off a trade DP into step kick into Ultra. Just about the only things Sagat does well in this version is break focus and AA. He’s got no way of stopping rushdown characters and even against zoners, he’s not that good anymore. Guile and Gouken flat out win fireball wars now, IMO.
NO shut up emblem lord, you don’t know what you are talking about, what have you done for sagat lately…except write half the posts in the entire sagat forum.
youngins need to show some respect to they elders.
It’s weird, he’s so close to perfect but yet he gets so fucked up. I. E put his ts back to what it was in ae and give st. Lk and he’d be perfect.
I couldn’t believe that my high tiger shots were being contested by poison in a full screen fb battle.
The reason Sagat needs st. Lk is because the vast majority of the good characters have a normal or move they can abuse relatively safe I.e ryu cr. Mk, Sagat has good normals but is missing that excellent normal.
Without st. Lk his space control takes a huge hit and you’re at the mercy of the cast without doing something risky
The think with making people jump is that you have to take risks with the shots, lots of risks. I play a couple of very aggressive E.Ryu players and the only way to deal with him is to not be afraid to throw shots. As soon as you doubt yourself you’re finished. This is the same for a lot of matches. It makes the shot nerf all the more hard to take. I wouldn’t call it “Yolo” or whatever the fuck the internet fan boys are calling it but you do have to play random with TK and EX TK, step kick and Dp.
Also I think people play Sagat too conservative sometimes, I think Bonchan is the best Sagat but I think Ryan Harts style is more effective. He play’s a more aggressive, trapping and risky Gat as opposed to a control monster.
No point playing 100% control gat (you can for parts of rounds but not entire matches) because you just can’t do it, it’s not viable and worst of all it’s completely demoralizing to your bones when you control 80% of a match to lose to some bull shit.
I’ve been way more effective recently in defeating some really good Ibuki/Guy players by just turning off my zoning brain and taking the matches to them. Sometimes my play feels sloppy but it’s unpredictable and really that’s what you need, that’s Sagat’s problem -
Once you know how to play the match, you can literally pick 70% of the cast and do the EXACT same thing with all of them against Sagat and win, you have to take that shit away from them.
I know what you mean highland lol I remember I went balls out a couple days playing rank and abusing ex tk just play like a douche and I shot up near 5kpp.
Depends , it works in that once they know you’re capable of that, they show more respect. That’s the main problem with some sagat players , they are quite willing to throw out shitty wake up dp, but not aggressive smarter risk taking like in throw traps and resets.
You know we should not have to play like that though, the character forces you to play a game he’s not good at.
Yea I don’t really like how the Asian players play Sagat . Gachikun, AFG, Nyanshi, ScrubbyDan, Leslie all are just a weak imitation of Bonchans style. Sit there afraid as fuck to do anything and walk themselves into the corner.
Bonchan is always in the corner, but that’s Bonchan.
Like I watched Sanford Kelly at The King of New York and he was pressing all sorts of buttons, applying pressure, and being unpredictable.
Getting someone to jump all depends on the player. He ain’t use one red fireball damn near that whole set.why every time you say something on here people start talking theory fighter. This beats that but that beats this. Bottom line that replay doesn’t help anyone’s argument on sagat gets pushed to the corner so easily. Because the sagat player didn’t all his tools in that match it hard to judge thats the character struggling or the player. I once read on hear Someone said Mago told them when they asked what do u do when people get into that sweet spot where it’s unsafe to throw a fireball and Mago said you can’t be scared to the fireball or play another character. That was like a year ago. All I kno is Sagat players are still placing pretty well at these last few tourneys.
Mago hasn’t played Sagat for 2 patches. Look up his matches on youtube and you’ll understand why he said that and why he can’t play Sagat anymore with his playstyle.
The risk/reward isn’t in Sagat’s favor when they’re in your danger zone, which is why Mago dropped him. Your only poke at that range has 34 frames of recovery and is -7 on block.
You guess right you get 60, they guess right and get 250+.
If you tag a jump in you get 120 or 200. Guess wrong you lose position or lose 250+.
When you’re in that zone, against any good player it’s never worth it to throw a TS. Can just try to throw out pokes to try to fake them out into jumping or just jump back to distance yourself - at cost of getting pinned in corner though.
Bro I know why Mago said that. Because its the ultimatum that sagat has to deal with in that spacing. So accept nd deal with it or move on. That’s why he dropped him. He didn’t want to deal with it.
