The issue Capcom has with Sagat is that people don’t enjoy fighting the kind of character that he is. And yet characters like Guile are quite competitive.
Stun increased to 1050.
Cl.Mp startup 7 frames -> 5 frames.
F.HP damage 100 -> 110.
Cr.Lp damage 30 -> 35.
Cr.Lk damage 30 -> 35.
St.Hk damage 80+40 -> 70+50.
St.Lk damage 20+30 -> 20+35. Active frames on second hit +2, recovery frames -1.
Cr.Hp recovery 15 -> 14. This makes Cr.Hp, TU a consistent combo.
You’re right in terms of probably raw tier placement, but Guile’s weakness is plain bad matchups. In even or good matchups his strengths are evident, whereas Sagat is just underwhelming across the board.
I tried out Endless mode for the first time the other day and picked Vanilla Sagat. I played someone I play against regularly, who usually beats me around 8-2 with his Ultra Fei, but with Vanilla Sagat I won almost every game in a FT5, even when he switched to good characters like Super Seth, Vanilla Ryu, etc. It really demonstrated for me just how badly Sagat has been nerfed over the entire series. You could even make the case Sagat has received the worst nerfs, overall, in the entire cast: s.LK nerf, damage nerfs almost across the board (not least with TU and U1), multiple TS nerfs, etc, and has had no real compensating buffs like a lot of other characters (e.g., Akuma lost a lot of his safe jumps in USF4 but at least he got force stand s.MK).
LAughter you ingrate!! Did capcom not give you standing lk cancellable into tigershot with ultra sagat? How about tigerknee forcing stand? was that not enough for you??
I think the main problem is his serious lack off buffs since being castrated. At least characters like Yang or Yun got butchered and returned to somewhat reality in further versions.
Sagat was pretty OP in vanilla, but he wasn’t the only one (Seth lol , Akuma lol , fuck even Ryu was a beast) . We just took it in the ass and never got to repay the favour.
