Brushstr0kes 101: The Amaterasu Thread Mach II

That shit is light when Doom Rocks got your back. Then when things slow down I do the Rosary trap.

You can solve this just by delaying the second hit for a fraction of a second.

So where do i even start with this pooch? There is just soo much to learn i feel overwhelmed. I figure i should just focus on one weapon at a time not matter what match up it is and slowly learn how to handle all her weapons. Its a shame its so early in the games life cause theres barely any footage of her any where.

^^^spam the string: L,M over and over up close, throw in lots of naked M to move back into position, hitconfirm naked M into L,M,H and naked L,M into H,F+H,H,H,H,H

the naked M into L,M,H only works on counterhit or if on meaty frames, but just go for the combo anythime you hit… no reason not to.

that attacking strategy is super easy and gives characters fits WITHOUT an assist, throw in an assist and shit becomes hell. the dog is really good. if they pushblock your M just do another M and resume, try to frame trap there pushblock. its hard as shit to jab ammy ammy out of her upclose game, she deals with pushblock well, if a someone calls a helper theres a good chance you will combo them and the helper, if they jump they get hit on the way up before they get off the ground sometimes. pushblock>superjump is probably the safest defense against her. use helpers when they figure it out.

also just use M in general to rush in, and see how your opponent deals with it, dont worry about it wiffing at first, just look for a defensive mindset before you use it. nobody wants the dog upclose biting there ankles, m beats damn near everything and perfectly sets up ammys fastest in game st.L which is a whopping 3 frames. compare that to wolverines cr.L which is a 6 frame startup.

how do you exchange cancel? can only some characters do it?

NOT SO RANDOM STUFF::
Next thread im making is more in depth detail on Amaterasu’s lockdown and block strings.

For those of you without the book::
GLAIVE
:l: is +0/-0 on block
:m: is -1 on block
:h: is +1 on block
paper is +6 on block

Furthermore through some testing i did last night :qcf::l: on block into c.:l: AND s.:m: are if not completely safe REALLY safe. So if they arent pushblocking you go to fucking town and mix them out out of their heads:

:qcf::l: blocked :m::h: xx :qcf::l: …etc etc if they arent blocking you can do this over and over

They cant do shit, and the H is so deep that if they try to call assist they will get hit clean the minute their feet hit the ground. So when they get the idea to just block the string you can start going low since thunder edge lows are also safe rotfl…

STRING 1:qcf::l: blocked c.:l:c.:l::m::h: xx (repeat)
STRING 2:qcf::l: blocked :m::h:c.:h: xx (repeat)
STRING 3:qcf::l: blocked throw

Make it even nastier and start calling in assists to cover a paper slash

:qcf::l: blocked [STRING 1 or 2] xx call assist + paper > :qcf::l: (repeat)

You want a good quick lockdown assist. IronMan unibeam assist was giving me the results that I wanted in this case.

You’re gonna need a good full screen beam assist for getting constantly pushed out. Keep that in mind.

RANDOM STUFF ::

  • I recommend you guys completely skip :l: when starting combos unless at VERY close range, it consistently whiffs for me. But thats just me.

  • if you have fast hands you can tiger knee divekick xx :qcf::s: xx okami shuffle after standing throw

  • Doom super jumping and projectile spam? Ammy’s dash is a full screen run, so if he throws 3 out just dash under and wait for him to fall. Or you can bait him into a foot dive so he lands right into okami shuffle or divine instruments. Or you can super jump as well and fly over into his face since he can only shoot at a downward angle he doesnt have a tool to keep you back.

-The interesting thing about Amaterasu is that canceling some strings into paper after youre pushblocked stops the opponent from phantom dashing in (why I do a lot of testing against Wolverine). So for the ones who think they’re smart by pushblocking or NOT pushblocking to punish a blockstring, you cant if she cancels into paper. I notice that J Wong was already playing around with the concept of wavedashing THROUGH pushblock, with Amaterasu youre going to dash right into -6 frames on hit trying to punish.

-Another interesting thing about paper is that the L and M versions are character dependent, meaning characters who are stronger coming in on top of you like IronMan/Wolverine M stops them dead, where as She Hulk you want to mix in a few L papers that nullify any attempt she has at mixing you up with a dash since it appears right in front of her. Now throw in Trish Peekaboo and she cant even wall jump. Ammy makes Shehulk free. But now im getting off track so back to my original point…

EDIT: I co-sign every fucking thing Dime said

I found this very tricky myself. Here’s what I did.
With Glaive…

:l::m::d::h: xx :qcf::l: :l::m::h: xx :qcf::l: :m::s: j.:m:(x2) :s: xx :df::h: :d::s:

The tricky part is, landing the :d::s: after the sword dive, since you have to be close to the ground. If you do it wrong, your teammate will switch with Ammy. If you do it right, it will cause a bounce and you can follow it up. If you do…

:qcf::l:(charged) xx XFC(optional) xx :dp::atk::atk:

Ammy is the only character that has this. At least right now, until someone can figure something out.

Not entirely true, I was able to do the same thing with Doom the other day, but it was much more difficult.

@Dime: Thanks a lot bro, it was kinda daunting picking her up at first but ill makes sure to practice the shit you just showed me.

@currentlemon: she-hulk can do it as well so that leads me to believe there will probably be a number of characters who can do it.

Now that you think about it, Amaterasu isnt as rudimentary as much of the rest of the cast. Still I wouldnt call her daunting, shes fleshed out.

Oh no doubt, she is like akuma from sf 4. He isn’t difficult to play per say he just has so many tools you really don’t even know where to start. Plus her basic damage leaves a bit to be desired, but her weapon switch combos are a headache, particularly on an xbox controller so im glad dime showed me that combo. Overall Im very excited about her, I definitely think down the road she will be one of the best in this game. With her and dante you get the feeling capcom went out of their way to make sure some of their characters were top tier.

dont wreck your brain trying to utilize weapon switching mid combo. I dont do it at all.

to be more concise, weapon switching isnt needed “at this time” atleast not against many opponents. first weapon switch to learn is F+H,H,H,H,H (switch) very easy, of course use lmh to start it off but i just abbreviate for my own reasons where common sense should take hold.

i dont currently use switches, but thats going to stop 'cause switches generally allow for more damage/ meter. right now i just primarily focus on hitconfirming and dealing with pushblock appropriately. as an mvc3 beginner i feel that those kinds of basics take sway over learning fancy combos… but thats just my opinion.

what makes ammy so hard to deal with is primarily 3 things: frame advantage up close mixed in with godlike priority, paper, her LOW stance/stature that almost makes her as hard to hit as a servbot. like deadpool cant just spam his super like regular cause ammy will just duck under all of it and take no chip, versus dante is similar.

i think ammy is pretty cheap actually, funny cause i still have yet to play a mirror or even against one period, but it “scares” the shit out of me, cause if i and my lack of skills can do wat i do with her, i can only imagine what someone that is actually good can do with her, on my team shes almost as strong as sentinel.

-dime

Thanks a lot guys, I figured weapon switching was her main way of dealing damage, but its good to know that isn’t necessarily the case(not yet at least). Just focus on dealing with pushblocking and staying in that ass. I should prolly pick up the guide though, it’ll probably have a lot of useful info on her.

( hi Dime =P )
I was about to make a thread on this, but since it looks like you guys might already be on the topic (and a new thread might not be necessary, idk):

:l:, cr. :m:, Weapon switch

My personal way of inputting: :l:, :d:+:m:, :d:+:l:/:m:/:h: (repeat)

I don’t have MVC3 yet, but I did sit in the lab for some hours at a friend’s house learning Ammy. I found this to be execution heavy (and mind fucking over time) and I only got 8 hits (4 loops in). It doesn’t matter what weapon you are switching to since L and M are the same throughout all of them, but by switching weapons the cr.M is cancelled so you can continue the loop. Of course you will want to be aware of what weapons you will want to use for other mixups in a string or when pressuring your opponent. It don’t think it matters if you start with L or cr.M. I’m not sure if this can be a potential infinite or not, but this loop seems really applicable, primarily with rushdown and continuing combos. I didn’t have the time to apply it in many combos although I did do a cr.M OTG-> loop after landing either an (air) QCF+H or (air glaive) QCF+S (forgot which one if not both).I was able to mix in a df airdash xx reflector H -> loop, and I would think this is especially good since Cr.M hits low, allowing you to add a mixup when your opponent is conditioned to blocking low.

Anyways, for those of you who actually have the game and have a good level of execution it would be nice to see how long the loop can go before hit decay takes its toll and also to see all the nice things that Ammy can get out of it all. Im sure there is also some abusive assist that can contribute to this.

So does anyone not get a ground bounce after j.df+H?
I’ve been trying M, H, f+HHHH, S, j.HHHS, dd+M, j.df+H, qcf+S, okami shuffle and sometimes the opponent would immediately roll out once being hit by the j.df+H. No ground bounce at all. Help?

With that said, In terms of best field character, I’d say Ammy is 2nd best in the game thus far. First being, of course, 50sent. You really can’t press buttons against her. Never. Ever. Don’t even think about it. You think about it and it’s already too late.

long time no see man, you should come down to dons, i want to play another ammy user before i move to oregon (mar. 2nd) your guy is stilll the rawest ive seen besides combofiends :slight_smile:

i have no clue who the best character is in this game yet, people say its sent but he has troubles with lots of stuff, and ammy and wolvie can rape him HARD. my current team is wolvie, ammy, sent.

since i suck, i feel its in my best interest to play the most powerful characters i can actually use. in this case all 3 of those characters are REALLY easy to use.

yeah ammy is very good, but you make 1 mistake and it could be lights out. with sent you can get locked down pretty horribly plus he can get zoned out if the opponent knows what they are doing… ie dont attack him if within range of frying pan or stomp, unless you have frame advantage of some kind.

this game has alot of growing to do. i think sent will be tops for sure, i’m just not convinced of s-tier status… yet.

but yeah the 3 best characters in the game RIGHT NOW are wolvie with akuma assist, sent with anyone, and ammy with damn near anyone. and they are all ridiculously easy to use… good for shitty players like me, and also pros like jwong that just want to win.

modok and dormammu are sleepers in my mind, as yet they arent being used by good players but the thought of a good player using them with an arthur assist is… unsettling.

scrubs have good keepaway with them so a good player can probably really wreck face.

but those are just thoughts of an online random. dont take them to heart. dat pipe might end up s-tier for all we know.

Ughh, I learned that the hard way, and it was online. I can do it offline though.

So after experimenting a little bit, I learned some exchange cancel combos. I’ll post these in the combo section after this. I’ll call exchange cancel “EC” for short, since no one came up with a proper name. If someone wants me to change it let me and others know. Note: Special thanks to Tragic for showing us this.

*Note: EC is :d::s:

**Note: :qcf::l: MUST be fully charged. Once charged, Ammy will do the move automatically. You don’t have to let go or press :l: again.

***Note: You can do Divine Instruments if you have enough meter and willing to do more damage. You can also XFC right after the charged :qcf::l: for more damage.:woot:

If someone has more please post. Thank you.
