Hey guys, I’ve been playing Thor(Smash)/Dormammu(Purification)/IM(Beam) and I love Thormammu. I played Iron-Man out of comfort with the character and just wanted to know your opinions on better anchors. I already know Doom but I honestly hate Doom/Vergil. Sound like I’m not playing to win but I can’t play characters I don’t like. I’m open to just about anyone/everyone else.
If your taking vergil and doom off your table. I would maybe recommend ammy. Though cold star is gonna give u a very different utility. If you want an upgrade but more of the same utility. You can probably go with magneto(disruptor) and strange (bolts). Dante isn’t a bad option either if your willing to put in the necessary work
If Dorm is in the middle you’ll almost always want Doom missiles but if Vergil/Doom is a no no I like Ammy for this team! Switch Dorm to liberation and play around with the stalking flare+okami shuffle thc against zoning teams or a bad approach.
I’m gonna go play around with Strange and Ammy. I’ll use whomever I like to play more. Thanks everyone I appreciate it and hate being in a character crisis.
I want some Thor/Ghost rider stuff. I just play this game for fun, and do tourneys occasionally but I have a team for that. I’m really hoping to make these two work. It’s obvious they need missles behind them but what if you’ve sworn to never play doom? Would Dorm anchor work or Ammy or sentinel? GR has pretty low damage, but if you put a heavy hitter behind or in front of him you may get him to be competitive. I realize I just need to learn doom but I really don’t want to.
Your dealing with a double edge sword. Convential wisdom would tell you to put thor on point because GR has some lopsided match ups, but GR is even worst on incoming… his options on incoming are not pretty lol. SO… pick your poison on that one lol.
Dorm anchor isn’t bad but i think GR and Thor need to consistently use meter… and or xfactor early… which limits how effective dorm can be. He really shines with at least one assist behind him with some hands charged. Ammy doesnt offer GR much… i think (not a GR player). Sent probably does well , Strider and Dante would also fair alright. Your right about needing doom, unfortunately… GR is one those characters that really needs him if you ask me.
Mr.Flubbs on YouTube uploaded a Ghost Rider combo video a few days ago and it showcases some interesting combinations with Thor included grab ideas from there.
I have the most fun playing Tron/Thor/Ghost Rider. No matter what order I have a blast with the team. I posted GR video on his thread a while back but I’ll post it here.
Nothing remotely optimal but fun regardless.
I have spent the majority of Ultimate on two teams.
-Thor(spark)/RR(log)/Skrull(Stone Smite)
-Firebrand(swoop)/Thor(Spark)/Skrull (Tenderizer)
The first one is my main team. Convention says why the hell are you using two wall bounce assists? Well I can convert 1 million off a single log anywhere on screen (-0.5bar to -1bar) and use both assists. The thing is because of charged mighty strike you are allowed to use stone smite as an otg wallbounce after a log trap to push damage wayyy up. The slow float of Mighty Thunder is ideal for Trap super, hard tag to Thor and put on more of the hurt. This team is front heavy, but it follows the more Point/Assist/Anchor scheme that I think is probably the best team approach in this game. Luckily RR does pretty dam good for himself once you learn his neutral so I can at least put up SOME damage on the opponent till Skrull crack factor comes into play. Skrull x-factor is why I play this game. If I ever get a way to record I will put up a team synergy video, but I feel RR is definitely one of Thor’s top partners in the game. Plus Thor TAC can bump RR damage up significantly (1 mil off any hit in the corner with two bars). Log also covers a good portion of the screen for skrull. If I used spit fire it would be more ideal, but I think the log conversions are too important for Thor not to use it.
Firebrand and Thor work well together and of course with Tenderizer this team has potential to make you not play the game if executed correctly. Firebrand doesn’t convert too well off of spark assist but it works for the most part. Swoop isn’t the best for Thor but it helps keep them out of your head space. I like this team for messing around, but my hands say No when it comes to Firebrands air movement so It’s not my competitive team mostly for that reason.
I’ve been running Thor(spark)/Hulk(gamma wave)/RR(log trap) for a bit now and I’m really loving the synergy. It’s pretty much touch of death to anyone in the game. I’ve been switching between Hulk on point or Thor depending on the matchup. Rocket Raccoon seems to really partner well with Thor and could possibly be his best assist. I’ve played some of the best people in my area and they say the team feels really cheap because they’re not sure when they can ever push a button and if they guess wrong they just lost a character and have to eat a guard break on the next character. What do you all think of this team?
I play Hulk/Thor/Dorm and get pretty good mileage out of Hulk/Thor and Thor/Hulk. Up-Gamma charge assist provides good protection for Thor and Gamma Wave gives him good combo extensions in the corner. Spark is really good for Hulk; the slow startup actually works in his favor as you can call Spark and then Gamma Charge in safely. And of course, any touch w/2 bars is death against most of the cast.
TBH, I play Dorm because I feel comfortable with the character, but RR is probably a much better fit for those two. Both Thor and Hulk get midscreen relaunches from Log IIRC. And Hulk gets full combos from command grab which is VERY important for him as he needs to be able to convert off of either normal throw or CMD grab to be truly scary.
At a glance, it seems like a decent enough team. Only problem is if the opponent snaps in RR and kills him, that team becomes kinda free. But I think that’s a problem most Thor teams have. Except maybe Thor/Doom/Ammy; any of those three can die and you’ll still have a fairly solid shell.
I think a Hulk/Thor team just doesn’t work because the comeback capability if the anchor is lost just drops too significantly. If RR dies on that team you don’t have much of a chance against a competent player. Look maybe into Taskmaster? Good assist, solid anchor, and works really well with RR. Up arrow DHC does a lot of damage and you can get good extensions off of mighty smash assist.
On this team Hulk doesn’t really benefit from log trap more than say a beam or drones. If you felt like putting the time in you could play a combination of Thor/Ammy/Raccoon in any order still have that “don’t press anything” offense with ublockables and a lot of mix ups. It’s a couples tiers higher if you’re seriously playing Thor on point and can get Rocket Raccoons gameplay started if he’s snapped in. Another strong option is replacing Hulk for Haggar
all those teams suck, stick to point thor and a combination of doom, strange and dormammu, amaterasu, vergil, morrigan, phoenix, sentinel, jam session in 2nd/3rd, #stop the low-tier-heroing with thor, #get results with thor, #dont make thor look bad, #learn that thor is a team character
Thor/missiles/unibeam is also one of his best teams IMO.
Only problem is it’s susceptible to being counter picked by Hawkeye, Vergil and Strange.
I don’t think there’s a 100% perfect Thor team though.
Thanks for the feedback. I can really see the points you guys are making. I started using this team as a secondary to my firebrand/dorm/ammy team, but started finding this one a lot more fun. I thought about switching hulk out for dorm, but it’s tough because I wanted to not really use the same characters as my normal team. I’ll mess around with it a bit more.
so Drinkingsoft disagree with my post of best partners for thor in competitive play and the mindset for doing good with Thor at high level. Good luck getting results with Thor.
@Duck Strong, yeah that team is amazing for point Thor, but the big throwback is that when Thor dies the comeback chances of the team are not very good. Even the best IM players (Danke, Joker, etc) look free when they have to deal with the favorite tournament characters, Thor/Dorm/Doom against Thor/Doom/IM for example, just have to kill Thor and the rest of the matchup is free for Dorm/missiles/beam. wish Ironman/Doom was a great pairing but its not, and IM is not particularly good at using meter which is the big synergy aspect that make Thor partners perform better
Doom/IM is one of Doom’s best shells, but I agree that unfortunately Doom and IM seem to share a lot of the same bad matchups.
Unibeam is sooooo good with Thor though and getting 900k meter less damage from a j.l is hilarious.
Wish IM was better :(.
I think you should add lairiat and log trap to your list of characters with competitive assists both have lead to wins at majors. If Thor is a team player I don’t see how cold star/log or lariat/log make him any less effective kanye shrug
I disagree with your negativity Serp. Simple as that. You just come off as a prick. I wished you did live in the US and tried to go out to tourneys, because if your attitude was anything like how you post behind a computer you wouldn’t make it very far in the scene. You’re a good player I’ll give you that, but far too often are you talking people down and blatantly being a dick.
