Ammy or Doom will add a lot to the team. Strong synergy all around for Thor and Strange. Keep in mind that you’ll be running the team MvC2 style with two points and an assist in the back. Don’t be looking for 1v3 comebacks, but focus more on learning and operating your team as a unit. It’ll be a good, strong, solid team capable of competing with the big boys.
Vergil won’t really add as much to the team as his assists don’t help Strange or Thor aside from combo extension, but he does DHC well and makes a crazy anchor. He’ll have a better time at those 1v3 comebacks but at the sacrifice of a neutral assist for the other two, and he’ll be needing some meter, which is cool since Thor is meter efficient and Strange is great at building it.
It all depends on how you wanna run things. You’ll be able to run whatever team you want however you want it, so long as you know your characters the enough. From then it’s all about match ups and neutral.
Thanks very much for the input. I only considered Vergil because over on the Strange forums I’ve heard he was a really solid anchor for him, but I’ll go ahead and eliminate him from the running for the team. I’ll give Amaterasu and Dr. Doom a go and see which I prefer.
I think you should consider Dante a good anchor for your team as well, I play Thor, Strange, Dante. Jam Session does wonders for Strange, and helps Thor combo.
How would I use Jam Session to benefit Thor or Strange? Can you give me an example. I was thinking of using Thor, Strange and Dante, but how would DHC’s work?
Thor to Strange would be Mighty Tornado to Vishanti, but strange to Dantes QCF super would be impossible, right? since Vishanti sends the opponent skyward.
If the opponent is on the ground, Vishanti would be used as an OTG for a quick DHC into Million Dollars. Or you could probably get some mileage off a Vishanti into Devil Trigger follow up combo. Maybe something like teleport, lightning, lightning, air S. It’d be something you’d have to experiment with.
btw I meant to ask you. In your original post, you don’t have Vergil’s uppercut assist in your Get Off Me Assists list. Is the assist not good enough to warrant an inclusion? Same with Spiderman’s webball.
The criteria for a get off me assist is something that’s fairly quick and has a good bit of priority either due to armor or start up invincibility. They’re typically the kind of assists that’ll have full invincibility during cross over counters. Vergil’s Rising Sun might do the deed. Spidey’s Web Ball, though? Nah, not in the least.
Jam Session helps both Thor’s and Strange’s neutral, it alone makes Strange’s zoning extremely effective vs non teleporters. (<Jam Session>+ Eye of Aga, IPxxM.Daggers) alone is more then enough to dominate neutral in a lot of matches, snipe with SoV if needed. It also set’s up a lot of teleport shennenigans with Strange, who can easily confirm Jam Session to his jump loop into either SoV or a Daggers reset.
For Thor, it extends his bnb into:
-X into S, MMHS, H.MSM, M.MSM cr.H, S+<Jam Session>, j.HxxH.MSPxxMT witch always builds enough bar to DHC into Strange for near 1 mil damage.
If Thor’s dead, SoV snipes DHC’s into Devil Trigger -> Air Trick, S, wich you can follow up with anything really, makes those snipes hurt a lot more.
Dante and Strange have a lot of cool tech between them, be creative and you’ll figure out a bunch
Yo Serp you’re running strange right? Do you prefer BoB or the Eye assist? Just curious. I’m looking to run Thor/Skrull/Strange with bolts but it’s somewhat unsafe because of how long he is on the screen. But it works well for meteor smash and MH shenanigans.
im really having a hard time DHCing Strange’s SOV into Million Dollars. The first few hits of million dollars hits then the opponent is thrown upwards cos of SOV and then recovers while Million dollars is still in animation.
Any tips on this? or other Strange/Dante DHC tech.
Either it doesn’t work, or you’re not canceling fast enough. I don’t play Dante with Strange so I don’t know. Lemme test it real quick.
And it looks like it doesn’t work.
For a direct answer to your question, Strange is mid tier. That really doesn’t matter much, but you asked. Now, when learning or picking up a character, tier placement shouldn’t be a deciding factor. What you want to look into are the character’s strength’s, weaknesses, and value to the team. He has his faults, other characters are definitely better than him, but he does provide what Thor needs, while Thor can give him what he needs too. You’ll have to do some looking around to see how well Dante would mesh with it. Vishanti into Million Dollars doesn’t work, so you’ll have to figure out what you can do instead. With me playing around, it’s looking like Vishanti into Devil Trigger, teleport, and Skydance will lead to good DHC combo, so explore that.
SoV to Million Dollars doesn’t work, just Devil Trigger, teleport S to start you off.
Some Dante/Strange tech that’s pretty staple for me is that Strange makes Dante kill of ground-throws, if you have 2 bar and XF to spare.
-Dante ground throw, Team super (Dante/Strange), XFC, Air Trick, S, Cold Shower, Prop Shredder, jc. Hammer, VolcanoxxBeehive, VolcanoxxBeehivexxMilion Dollars, it you start with 2 bar and XF lvl 2 that combo usually builds the bar needed, and does around 1.1 mil damage, worth it IMO if it’s the last char you want to get rid off, because people let Dante grab them for free.
I been running a two teams of late
1)
Wolverine ( whichever assist seems better) , Thor ( spark), Dormammu ( purification) .
I really like how good wolverine works with mighty spark, can use it for b.slash shenenigans , and can use it to otg into dbl fatal claw. I could also tac , so I can use purification into an SSS for big dmg. Team gets pretty weak when wolverine dies , Thor is kinda working by himself , since purification doesn’t help me get in. If I’m struggling , I can get dormammu in , and do teleport shenengians with spark , and just hope I don’t get left with Thor on anchor lol.
Thor (smash), vergil (rapid slash) , Chris (gun fire) .
This team is more versatile , gunfire helps with thors approach. Rapid slash has its applications too , if someone blocks it , you can get some mighty speech out lol. In combos , when used in conjunction with h. Smash otg , u can actually SSS , tho I often choose to just go with a single strike or spark to get a grounded mighty tornado. This makes the DHC into swords easier and that leads to some big dmg if I don’t drop it . Thors smash assist can be useful to vergil to combo after his otg. And if Thor dies, Vergil and Chris do pretty well. They have a pretty good THC as well.
Would love any comments on concerns. Or even insight to possible tech
Strange is low tier starting the fight, high tier in the second position. he has enough BS to destroy teams and win fights as long as he has the momentum, so the point character has to earn that momentum, and its not hard with his assist, DHCs and crossover counter options.
