Brother, You're Needed - Ultimate Thor Team Building Thread

Helpful…looks like I’m spending the next hour wondering how the hell he did that.

ok i just picked up thor and i was wondering how my team looks and if someone could help me out on a anchor…so far im playing Thor/Dorm/Task or Thor/Dorm/She-Hulk… i dont know what team out of them 2 to play i really just want an otg assist but i dont know if she-hulk is a anchor character…HELP PLZ

She’s definitely not an anchor person. Gets lamed out really easily. No real options to close the distance. First team is the better choice.

Conventional wisdom says she is not , but Abegen runs a shehulk anchor , so it can be done , just realize its an uphill battle.

I’m of the personal opinion that xfactor makes any character a viable anchor in some way. We should all be alittle less reserved, if your feeling she hulk just do it

i was just thinking that i should just do it and if it dont work out ill trade out she hulk for wesker

You need to be confident in your reads to play a scary anchor she-hulk.

Are you?

Alright, after skimming the FGTV archives for about an hour, I FINALLY found Abegen’s set with GCYoshi, and thus his Side TAC.

It’s at 11:22:40 (start at 30 seconds so you don’t go directly into it).

From what I can tell, notation is…[RDP+L (full charge) xx QCF+2A (you have to input this in reverse since Thor will switch sides), ADUF, j.L, j.M xx M Spark, S]

I’ll be testing this in the lab now.

Ha I just found it too. Good job Saitsu I’ll hit it up too.

From what I can tell, you need to do the Mighty Strike L as fast as possible in order for Thor to cross under the opponent, then do the Mighty Tornado ASAP once you get the cross under so it actually lands. After that, it’s dashing after Mighty Tornado that we already know about. I’ll post it up on the combo thread.

I’m thinking of running a team of Thor/Dormammu/Akuma. Any thoughts or advice on this team? Should Dorm be on point or Thor?

It’ll work out well. Dormammu’s ideal spot is second, but I think with Akuma assist, he’ll do alright on point too.

After finally getting some matches in with my Viper/Thor/Ammy team, even while playing with my absolutely shitty Viper and Ammy, this team is definitely an improvement over my old ones, big time. It feels nice to actually have neutral assists for once.

So I won’t lie at all, watching Abegen made me want to pick up Thor and what’s cool is I think I can just toss him into my Nova/XXX/Hawkeye shell but I just have a few questions:

  1. I’m on vacation right now and I REALLY want to know what kind of damage you can get off of Super Nova DHC Mighty Punish Whiff combos. Like I’ve agonizing over not having lab time.
  2. right now I use Nova assist B (Centurian Rush)/Hawkeye assist A(Greyhound). I’ve heard tell looking into it so far that I really need an OTG to maximize thor’s damage, so I want to know if I should switching out Hawkeye assist B (Poison). I would like to not have to since Greyhound is just a great assist all the time, but if the difference in damage would be not killing a character vs. killing one I would rather just kill em.
  3. Assuming I can’t just throw Thor into this shell, who should I be looking into to switch out character-wise as these are the two characters I am most comfortable with and I really don’t have much experience with other characters like them.

I haven’t done much with that myself, so you’ll be exploring on your own.

Maximizing damage is nice, but having a strong neutral is definitely better. I’d definitely stick with Triple Arrow for Nova and Thor to benefit. If you’re wanting to throw Thor in that team, I’d say the way to do it would be Nova(b) / Thor (a) / Hawkeye (a). Thor can easily help maximize Nova’s damage off any stray hit. My go to BnB with Nova/Thor is an easy 900+.

j :h:, st/cr :m:, st/cr :h:, :s:, j:h:, fly, j :h:, unfly, j :h:, land, :s:, j :h:, j :s:, Call Mighty Spark Assist, :l: Centurion Rush, :m: Centurion Rush, :h: Centurion Rush xxx TK Super Nova, DHC Mighty Tornado. It’ll hit anywhere on screen.

Well as it is now, if you wanna play Nova and Thor, you’ll have to be playing Nova first. I’ve found some that Thor helps out Nova pretty well, but Nova doesn’t really help out Thor. I’d say it’s solid enough as is. Doesn’t have much dirty cheapness so you’ll be working. You might be able to get more mileage out of Ammy’s cold star instead of Hawkeye since you’ll be able to optimize Thor’s damage with that in the corner and have a good neutral assist to boot, but it’s really whatever.

Best advice is to experiment, find your stride, see what works for you, and come back for questions.

Hello everyone, I am new to the fighting game community and I am thinking of creating a team based around Thor. I really like umvc3 and am trying to get good at it, figured my first step would be to create and appropriate team. I know I want thor at point, but I really don’t know who to put at the 2nd or even anchor spot. I was thinking something along the lines of Thor, Strange,Doom, but it already has been mentioned that this particular strategy leaves strange vulnerable once Thor dies, so I thought about another team which would be Thor,Magneto,Strange, but I really don’t know if that would work so I need your guys help. Please tell me if either of these teams work and if they do what assists would work great with each. If they don’t work then can any experienced thor players suggest some competetivly solid thor teams. Also I really like the Thor,Dorm,Doom team as well, but don’t know if this team is still viable today, I just finished watching hazbats 2.3 and 2.5, really got me wanting to get better at the game, maybe participate in one of those one day, till then your help would be most appreciated, thank you in advance.

Oh no, Thor/Strange/Doom is an excellent team all around. You just gotta make sure each of your characters has assists that back up everyone else.

Plasma Beam would probably be the ideal assist as it benefits Thor’s and Strange’s game. And if Thor dies, Strange will still benefit well from Doom. When I was talking about my team set up, I was talking about how Strange wasn’t going to get a lot out of hidden missiles alone. He still gets a lot from missiles, but not really he needs something that allows him to breathe in between like either a beam or get off me assist. Bolts of Balthak or Eye of Agamotto both benefit Thor for what he needs to do. I personally prefer the bolts because they allow for combo extension, beam coverage, and the gap in between allows for command grab set ups. Doom, while certainly not the ideal best character to be in the anchor slot is still good enough to pull his weight around alone. Everything about the team is solid, which, in Marvel, means you’ll have to work a little bit harder than most to get good results, but it’s more than capable.

Thor/Magneto/Strange should be alright. I’m personally not a fan of Strange on anchor so I’d switch him and Magneto around, and then you’d essentially be running it in the same manner as Thor/Strange/Doom, except you’d have a better anchor.

Thor/Dorm/Doom is definitely a viable go to as well. My only real issue with it is Dorm’s assists not really helping Thor much out in his neutral game, but over all it’ll still work.

If you just getting into this game becareful picking Dr Strange, I feel he’s more of an advanced players character who have experience with the game. there to me 3 ways to play Dr Strange which is Teleport Rushdown ,Zoning and Setup/Punish so pick what best suits your play style and the assist to help it out. If your going to play Thor/Dr Strange/Doom these are the assist that synergizes them from when i used this team. For Thor put the** Mighty Smash** assist though it helps you extend combos the main reason you want to use it is for its Invincibility Frames during a cross over counter. Its invincible till the first hit of the cross over what i liked to do was after that initial hit if i caught them i would X-Factor and continue into a combo which from Thor leads to death to that character.

This assist is to really benefit Dr Strange cuz you will get rushed down wait for your chance while block stun to CC and punish your overly aggressive opponent, dont just use it on any normals use it when they do their c.M or s.M this is because after your opponent uses a c.H or s.H they would use a special to make his block string safe which usually means to make space so they cant get punished. For Dr Strange use the bolts assist, it stays out there for a long time to pin your opponent they also usually duck under this move which is good for you cuz you can get a quick over head tri dash with Thors j.L which also crosses up or with Doom a foot dive to the head. As for** Doom** put the hidden missiles not just cuz its one of the best assist in the game it help Thor and Strange immensely buy covering the areas they lack like Thors ground speed and give Dr Strange time to set up some graces. The best way to use it with Thor get some space zone them with mighty spark L to pin them while calling on missiles then make your approach, almost the same for Strange get space zone with air DoD L so you dont get hit buy their projectiles while sending your right at them.

I find it funny that a Burst Time DHC Mighty Punish Whiff combo does more damage for the same amount of meter than Burst Time DHC Mighty Tornado. It makes me wonder how many characters can help Thor take advantage of DHC Mighty Punish Whiff followups.

One disgustingly cheap setup i like to do is after an air series when i land a full charged M Smash let the opponent Tech then M Punish whiff into Spider man UWT. I got the idea from watching that ABEGEN She-Hulk grab setup. I remember i got hate mail from a dude that just said YUK.

that’s why I can’t wait to get back home and test out Super Nova DHC Mighty Punish Whiff. I’m still stuck with wifi and just a laptop for 2 more weeks still :-/
