Actually hyper gravitation + mighty hurricane after of mighty smash H sounds like an inescapable reset oO
I tried to but they don’t have great DHC synergy other than hard tagging in Thor after Trish does Round Harvest and Mighty Tornado DHC’d into Round Harvest. Also, Thor only benefits from Trish’s Peakaboo trap assist but it can’t be used to extend combos in the corner.
As for Mags/Thor the best I can think of is:
Thor’s ground to air series > fully charged H Might Smash > Mighty Tornado > DHC to Magnetic Tempest
or
Magneto’s combo into Magnetic Shockwave (after 1st pillar) DHC to Mighty Tornado since all you need is a way to OTG the opponent.
This is all theory anyways.
After UFGT I’ve decided I want to pick up a Thor focused team. Just theorycrafting and have yet to test it, but I am thinking of running with Thor(Mighty Smash)/Dorm(Purification)/Sent(Drones).
This seems like it covers most of my bases in terms of giving me mixup/lockdown options, good mixups on re-entry with either Thor or Dorm on point, good DHC synergy with my first two teammates and then a decent lvl 3 XFactor with Sent.
Thoughts or pointers on this team?
It’s pretty much a perfect team for him. You’ll do pretty well with it, especially if you’re good with Sentinel on anchor and protect him well enough for when you call drones. Not to mention how much Dormammu gets out of drones.
I am not a fan of pairing Thor with the Drones, and Sent is a bad anchor at the end of the day.
I’d really like some help guys
Thor/Spidey/x
Thor on point because of his high health, need for assists, and the DCH’s into Spidey are so good I have to use them.
Spidey second because of reasons above, and he doesn’t need much in the way of assists.
x- I’m thinking that taking the time to actually learn Iron Man would be worth it. I could use him as an anchor and get his Unibeam for both of my other characters. I’m hearing that Unibeam on block can be a free Mighty Hurricane? I definitely want that
But please let me know any and everything you think about this team. I’ll put the effort in to make it work, I love all these characters.
This is the team that I run exactly. It is GODLIKE…the mixup you get is crazy.
one of my good friends runs Spidey/Thor/Arthur. The synergy is absurd. You can get 1.25 million off of a TAC lol
While Sentinel may not be a good anchor because of how horribly he matches up with a majority of the cast, you can’t deny the overall utility his drones add to any tri-dash character. Thor’s mixups are alright by themselves, but with drones on the screen, they get bumped up a considerable margin. The only problem you’ll really have with that is covering the assist call, and that’s solved by choosing smart moments to call them, which is typically when there’s distance between you and the opponent, which is pretty much the only real time Thor needs them.
That team sounds pretty legit. I will have to mess around with Drones w/ Thor, but I can’t pilot the robot worth a crap, so I end up dying with him anyway. I’ll have to give it a try online one of these days. You can probably cover the drones coming out w/ a M.Mighty Spark + drones, but people with a beam or a beam super will blow your shit up. Drones cover teleporters behind you, and M.Mighty Spark covers the Vajra space, so it might work. After the drones are out you can do whatever the hell you want lol.
Yeah, the only real draw back to drones is it coming with Sentinel. I’m in sort of a love/hate relationship with him. He does great damage, comes with armor, has mobility, command grabs, and long limbs, but his huge hit box just makes him easy pickings for so many characters that I get heavily discouraged from wanting to play him. Plus the fact that I don’t really care for the Sentinels in the comics either makes me care for him even less. But every once in a while I see Ray Ray or Infrit do some work with him on stream and I wanna give him another go.
The best format for a Thor team is:
Thor / Meter user + zoning assist / powerful solid anchor + stationary lockdown assist
In this logic, Thor / Dorm / Sentinel sounds very good for Thor, but in the overall picture Sentinel lose to a lot of characters, and i dont think Thor can really cover Sentinel big hurtbox in some matchups (looking at you Wolverine, and that Morrigan b**** is not controllable with Sent). The best Thor team either has Dorm, Skrull, Strange, Vergil, Modok (believe it or not, the shield assist is a zoning assist, works wonders with Thor, and Modok is a meter user), Doom, Hsien-ko, Frank, Taskmaster, Storm, etc in the second position, and Vergil, Dorm, Amaterasu, Doom, Skrull, Dante, Taskmaster etc in the last spot… Sentinel and Arthur ARE NOT good anchors, they are just characters with gimmicks that will lose to a smart mid-high tier character.
Thor / Doom (missiles) / Phoenix or Morrigan is also very strong. Mighty Smash is probably the second best ground GTFO assist (1st one is Akuma tatsu), Thor + missiles is godlike and Thor has the tools to charge Morrigan and Phoenix enough bar as for making them a threat. Thor is very solid on point, even against characters like Wolverine, Magneto, Hulk, etc. can open up characters on lockdown as much as easy as Akuma for example, and his air game is wayyy better. Not to mention the health (higher health means better battery).
Since its relevant to the conversation, I changed my anchor on my Hulk/Thor/Captain America team to Sentinel the other to check out how I would do with him online and I did pretty well. Though now I wish that I recorded my matches. I didn’t feel to comfortable with Sent on my team but that’s mostly because I was super hesitant on using him because of his health, how long he’s on screen during an assist call, and just being bad with him in general. He works great with Hulk but if I want to keep using him then I’ll have to work on some synergy between Sent and Thor. Plus, Thor/X/Phoenix is just a horrible idea for a team IMO because of how easy it is to open up Thor and you would have to heavily rely on an assist to keep Thor alive long enough to build enough meter. Finally, I think as a GTFO assist Hulk’s Gamma Charge (Anti-Air) is far better than Mighty Smash.
Thor + missiles is FAR from being easy to open up, if you know what you are doing of course.
Thanks for all the comments!
Hrm, based on what everyone is saying I may swap out Sentinel. He feels like a solid choice though and I have luck with him.
Some of the anchor suggestions that Serpantaurus threw out…while they’d work, the only one I really like there is Doom and I am trying to specifically avoid using him so I open up my character options. Amaterasu could work I suppose.
Here’s a question specifically for the Thormammu folks: Is there a way to relaunch with Dorm on point dropping Flame Carpet to OTG and calling in Thor for Mighty Smash assist? I did it ONCE but now I can’t figure out the timing of it for the life of me. To be a little more specific, what happens is I can get the relaunch but then the Flame Carpet is still there and when I knock someone back down, they hit the Flame Carpet which has no hitstun so they just fall right out of the combo before I can OTG Purification xx Hyper
If you are trying to do Dormammu Ground series>MMHS>relaunch with Thor, it’s all about practicing the timing, it is ENTIRELY possible. Also,
you can do another S.S > J.MMHS after the relaunch if you get the mighty smash timed correctly, Dormmamu usually can get away
with 2 air magic series>OTG >hyper combo in a combo, from my experience, and this is with Thor mighty smash and and Skrull
stone smite as assists. It works for both.
Any suggestions on the timing for relaunching with Dorm using Thor assist?
Just gotta keep at it, it’s somewhat finicky, but it usually works.
If the flame carpet is juggling them after thor’s mighty smash assist… you need to just delay the assist call a little bit after pressing df H. Bear in mind that you can press the asset button during the animation of flame carpet (its a command normal, not a special). If they recover from flame carpet before the assist has hit, you need to call the assist earlier.
That is it. It’s not hard at all when you get the timing down.
Sorry Mech, this is slightly off topic, but just noticed the video of you playing Noel Brown on saturday. You were doing some crazy reckless things with your Thor, specifically against his Vajra assist. We had discussion not too long ago in these forums, dig around and see what we said. Basically… Thor is fucked against Vajra, but you didn’t make it easier by throwing out so many moves in the air.
