Bringing Knives to a Fistfight! Ibuki Strategy and Match-up Thread

Ooooh wow! Best of luck to you then, I hope you do place in top 8! I want to go to SCR but I will probably not have the time as my schedule will not fit in =_=;
Sigh! >[*

Hi, would anyone like to practice with my ibuki? i need matchup knowledge practice and its on ps3, bunchris1

Well I’m pretty sure he was kidding. I hope so at least lol

Gabe_Art, what will be your nickname? I want to see Ibukis at SCR, show me YER SKILLZ!

Umm I signed up as Thrillhouse. I don’t like it but people pretty much nicknamed me that since I started going to WNF lol I don’t really have a choice anymore since they’ll change the name on stream anyways.

It alternates between Thrillhouse and Skillhouse…I’m pretty sure the guys running the stream have just given him that nickname, lol. I think it might show up as Gabe or Gabriel Art in the streams.

Sorry if I am quoting old but, I forgot to say thank you for this post advices :} I am saving your advices on notepad! :}

Wait wait. eltrouble, why would anyone use cr.MP option select Neckbreaker?

Assume the opponent blocks it, you’re exposing yourself to a huge punish.

Option selecting it to MK/HK tsumuji is way safer, although the third hit doesn’t always land. A blocked neckbreaker is possibly one of the worst situations Ibuki can have

You’re supposed to do it out of range of your opponent, purposely whiffing it, so that if your opponent walks up she’ll get hit, or if she pushes a button she’ll get hit and then you get a neckbreaker.

This is exactly why tsumuji is not always the best option to option select at midrange, especially not on Chun who is notorious for having combo-ed tsumujis whiff all the time on her.

No. You’re supposed to be doing the cr.Strong at a range at which it will only cancel into the Neckbreaker if it hits/counter-pokes. Similar to Sakura option-selection cr.Forward with Fierce Shouken.

Yeah, pretty much from Izuna and Mingo said. You do it outside their range so that it doesn’t connect if they block. If you’re worried about them blocking it, you could option select it into a tsumuji, or a command dash if you want to get close. If you want to earn some cool points, do an option-select U2 if you’re messing around, although be aware sometimes it might accidentally do an U2 after a whiffed cr.mp due to negative edge if you don’t do it quick enough.

Anyone of you guys with a lot of Rufus matchup experience?
My training mate picked him up some time ago and I really feel… free.
Once he’s in there it’s kinda like block, tech and hope or die. I really don’t have that much experience in the MU at all, lot of pressure for me, especially w/o ex meter and well… I just hate that matchup. 8[ Would love to get any tips or hints, losing like that hurts quite a lot ._.

Don’t let him get in. Focus less on scoring knockdowns or spamming cr.MP at midrange, and more on zoning Rufus out and capitalizing on any mistakes you see (eg: antiair -> frame advantage -> meaty or mixup)

Backdash is usually a good option when getting pressured because Rufus’s option select sweep often whiffs on Ibuki. This forces him to use the much harder to execute option select Galactic Tornado or just plain make a good (though risky) read with a late dive kick.

Focus on anti-airing him and zoning him out. You don’t want Rufus to start his Okizeme or Dive-Kick pressure against Ibuki, especially if you don’t have the Meter to potentially have a threatening response.

Try different normals to counter-poke his Dive-Kicks and you should find it easier.

Thanks a lot you two. :slight_smile:

My main problem really starts once he’s in there with his constant dk pressure, I’d say I’m a mediocre player and I’m really afraid to press any buttons at all against him. Block, tech and hope. Is there any special way to deal with a Rufus right in my face, would love to hear the “best helping normal”, cause either I’m way off timing or I dunno, his instant/low dive kicks make me weep and cry.

Guess I’m doing fine as long as he’s out of range, but once he’s in there… lacking skill and experience probably, too.

[e] As we play eachother a lot, he knows about my backdash love… :confused: We know eachother too well, I guess.

Okay that’s it, this sound notification on my phone has to go. =( SRK is like a full-time job. See you tomorrow.

@reh:

Don’t ever, ever mash crouch tech against Rufus. His dive kick may get you in trouble.
A good thng to do is to be able to see which normal isn’t safe. Rufuses have the popular reflex to divekick in the middle of their blockstring. If they used a light before (which they most likely do), just st.LP and break his dive-kick to come back to a 50/50 position.

Rufus’s pretty free on wakeup, don’t kunai too much (as EX Messiah kick will get out easily), but mix it up and kick his ass.

Also, if you happen to be at mid range, try to cr.MP OS Tsumuji. This will beat stupid dive kicks and keep you safe (I don’t use OS neckbreaker in this case, if he dive kicks you get nohing out of it).

Nah I can’t figure out how to get rid of it now. NVM.

You have to be patient and keep blocking, try to feel when he tried to go for a throw or something other than Dive-Kick.

Exactly.

GET THE SEVENTH SENSE MAN :saintseiya:

Like Damascus said, don’t bother crouch teching. I’d extend it further and say don’t bother stand teching either unless you know what you’re doing (eg: you’re making a read). Taking the throw is always better than getting hit with a dive kick into combo which does more damage, or worse, into ultra, which does a lot of damage.

When getting pressured, try your best to make reads and predict what your opponent will do. It won’t be in your favor, but that’s the punishment you get for letting him in, and a good Rufus isn’t going to let you go easily.

If in doubt, blocking is a good option. Block as long as you have to before committing to an action. Depending on whatever you predict: a throw, another dive kick, a reversal bait, a non-option select, etc. you can backdash, jump back, st.LP, Raida, EX Kazegiri, cl.st.HK, etc. You can also test your opponent’s reactions with FA backdash.

I’ve never had a problem with reaction neckbreakering wakeup EX Jesus Kick, but if you say so.
