Bringing Knives to a Fistfight! Ibuki Strategy and Match-up Thread

so after looking at the tsumji loop chart and at the vortex section i saw that it doesnt list u2 for makoto as a way to get out of vortex. does anyone have an issue with makoto using u2 to get out of vortex clean? i swear my friend punishes it on sight of any crossup kunai… its lead me to empty jump tick throws which he than anticipates my grab with u2 >.< anyway wondering if i’m doing something wrong

gonna test it more in the morning when my buddy comes ova

I don’t believe I’ve ever played a decent Makoto, nevermind one that tried to get out of vortex.

But nonetheless, if your vortex gets shut down, use your alternative options. Ibuki has a lot more okizeme options than empty jump tick throw. For example, safe jumps. If you want to stay ambiguous and look like you’re doing the regular vortex, you can do super jump and crossup j.LK. With Makoto’s U2 at 15f startup, it should be no problem to safe jump.

most makato’s i play use u2 to escape but i’ve never been punished by it.

so if makoto does instant axe kick the lower he gets off kick the more positive it is on block, but my friend said he thinks it only gets to neutral on block anyway u1 punishable i need to work on timing my FA and releasing as soon as i get lvl2 to punish more. another question though, if i safe jump and he calls out my safe jump with ex overhead or grab can i beat those by buffering raida? not sure exactly the mechanics of safe jumping. he’s been working my normal crossups with those ex moves which sucks because of those gets him into great resets

EX oroshi (Makoto’s special overhead) has 18f startup, so you should have no problems safe jumping and blocking in time, and then punishing.

I dunno about Makoto’s EX karakusa (command grab with FA armor).

Keep in mind that both of these options require EX meter and are not guaranteed. ie: if you kunai instead of safe jump, Makoto is going to pay a hefty price for guessing wrong, in terms of damage and stun. And if you’re doing more mixups than just vortex, Makoto is going to have much less time to think about her options.

I haven’t tested this but safe jump OS dp should beat all of Makoto’s reversals. And after they see they have to block you could start mixing up with ambigious jumping lk’s, empty jump grab, overhead, and meaty cr. Strong, etc.

  1. If Guile isn’t able to punish your jumpin, then it sounds like a good enough advantage for me. You get in easily and you’re able to start pressure/blockstring/etc. If he is punishing your jumpin with flash kick, then try SJ crossup to the other side to mix him up.

  2. Dictator Bipson is an awful matchup, period. I believe st.MP can stuff scissors kicks, and cr.HK is your friend against st.HK spam. But I dunno what else to say, just get lucky somewhere and knock him down and never stop with the pressure.

  3. Antiair ultra - neckbreaker?
    Antiground ultra - SJ kunai?

  1. You don’t really have to. Guile’s primary pokes mostly have high hitboxes. In other words, Ibuki’s slide pwns him. Just don’t get too predictable with it.

  2. What happens when you SJ kunai? Sounds like it should work since kunai is not a projectile.

First of all, how often will you be playing vs Blanka and he’ll do a random full screen U2?

Second, can’t you just jump to get closer, then block 2nd hit and punish?

Perhaps you’re doing the kunai too early then?

Risky, but what about backdash , jump , neckbreaker? Using the invincibility and airborne parts of Ibuki’s backdash to avoid the ground hitbox of the ultra.

u guys have any trouble anti airing or trying to chase down gen and punishing his wall jump kicks on block because everything i try to do he just jumps out of it?

You don’t even need to super jump. If you see a full screen U2 just hold up forward and throw a kunai at your peak. You can land and do a combo or ultra as well.

All the good Blankas around here use U2 just to shut down half her vortex, but noone really does full screen ultra to try and chip to death.

hey rahon u ever get the chance to look at those other safe jumps so you can add them to the front page?

What “other safe jumps” are you talking about?

He wanted me to update the front pages with a list of known safe-jumps. currently I have about ten safe-jump set-ups, mostly found on this forum. I haven’t fully tested all of them but I will update the front page with them and fix it if I find issues with any of them.

However, if you look, quite a few safe-jumps can be found in the match-up writings.

Known safe jump setups were exactly what I was asking/looking for in my other thread. If you could post them somewhere, that’d be cool.

Then maybe eventually, once we have a list of all Ibuki’s safe jump setups, we (or me) could demonstrate them in a youtube video.

Ok I will post the ones I have in the other thread and update this thread with em later on. The only problem is several are off of neckbreaker so they won’t work in AE I assume.

When AE rolls around, then we’ll worry about it and be able to test AE-certified safe jumps.

there are safe jumps coos found that he posted around the ibuki forums that pretty much work for me except the one he did that included guy and dee jay ive only had that to work a few times its really hard trying to safe jump those two for me when they have ex

I think im going to come back to this game. Been playing mvc3 and i still havent found a team i really like. I change my team like every day. Sad thing is, i played mvc3 for three days before it was released too and still have not settled.
