Breathless... SUPER Abel Match Theory Thread

If what you said is correct, than we apparently don’t have the same version of the game. Everything I’ve stated was tested quite thoroughly, otherwise I wouldn’t report with such hype/curiosity.

To be honest, I’d be glad if in the final, retail version Breathless wasn’t as godlike as it appears on my TV. I guess we’ll know in a week when we all get the 100% proper versions in our mailboxes.

Well, for the most part Abel is the same character. What they changed about Abel in the beta has been reverted back to the old Abel which is great either way. The general damage reduction helps Abel a lot. The only new thing about Abel that I figured out is that he can combo his standing roundhouse. Other than that, same old great Abel.

1050 health.
1050 stun.

Breathless is a great ultra. Like in the beta he absorbs any hit pretty much instantly grabs you. With max ultra is does 480 damage. Plus it sets him up for another mix-up opportunity. Soulless is still great. However it scales way too much during a combo, like everything else.

Once I get more info on Abel I will post.

Back to matchup stuff, it’s not always safe to anti air T.Hawk with Breathless because of his armor breaking move as demoed in this vid.

Tried some stuff with abel today (mainly dmg) but here are the changes i noticed, sorry if this has already been mentionen somewhere:

TT has a -20 dmg nerf across all the versions (now does 160,180,200, EX 200)
cr.mk got a 10 dmg buff (now 70 instead of 60)
U1 is 500 dmg down from 551. (U2 is 480)
f.mk, cl.hp xx Rekka FADC cr.fp U1 does 521 dmg
You can do LP/MP/EX falling sky after cr.fp without rolling.

All the other combos seem to do same dmg, same goes for his normals.

Need more details, whadya mean by that? Falling sky without cancelling the cr.hp? Against who, everyone? Because in SF4 you can do it against some characters like dhalsim and cammy if im not mistaken.

Yes, without canceling the cr.fp - worked on Ryu (didnt work in SF4, tried, or atleast i didnt manage to it)

It didnt work on Guy, his fall is weird, but I tested on most i think, and it worked.

Is there any advantage of not cancelling?

EDIT: Since we know hondas nj.HP is beat by EX FS clean… does it work with chuns nj.hk? Or rogs similar nj.hp?

Fubarduck was saying on the Spooky stream today that you can hit confirm into Jab CoD now. I wonder if thats from cr.jab, st.jab or what. Obviously you can cr.jab > st.fp xx CoD… but that was already there.

yeha im curious about this too, i wonder did he mean the overhead or the normal version? if its the overhead, iirc its already possible to combo into s.mp from a non counter hit in sf4…

Guys, I have to apologize but seems like all my tests were done really badly. Don’t know how I managed to forget the super freeze is that long. I obviously haven’t held the up direction long enough in most of my tests.

To correct, here’s some better results:

Viper: LP & HP thunder knuckle - all false
Dhalsim: HP - false
Honda: LP & EX headbut - LP is true, EX is false
Ryu: EX tatsu, hadoken close->mid range all false
Fei Long: HP, c.HP, Rekka all false
Sagat: HK, K tiger shot close->mid range, P tiger shot close all false
Ken: HK tatsu (HIT) - false
Rufus: c.HP (HIT) - true

I feel like a moron for spreading the hype about broke-ass Abel. On the other hand, I’m glad he’ll be extremely good, but not godly.

Now I don’t know about my antiair tests. I’m doubting them as well, altough I’m pretty sure I’ve been holding up/mashing for a long time. So yeah, disregard all of my input about this thing. Still, it’s hella fast for such range. Just far from as godly as I’ve claimed it to be. Sorry again.

you could always link into close roundhouse and land the standing version for 100 damage/200 stun. kinda pointless but it was a beast lookin combo

I can take this one of two ways - either Ryu’s falling animation has changed after cr.hp (unlikely) or falling sky has less start up frames - I’d be inclined to think falling sky comes out faster, even if it’s only by a few frames.

I’m hoping that means you can link his c.lp together to jab CoD, that would be dope.
