Breathless... SUPER Abel Match Theory Thread

Gotta love that I just ask a question and I get accused of crying. I even said I thought it was good Abel has more tools against Gief now; I was simply asking for counters. Instead of being condescending fucks you could have just stated the counters. So EX green hand and psychic jump are the only answer. Good to know.

Its still a really powerful ultra and I think Gief okizeme against Abel has nothing on that thing…but whatever, we are each biased in our own way here.

The QQ was referring more to the video than to your comment. The video was all “I can’t SPD him! THE END IS NIGH!”

Also, if you’re out of EX GH range, a well timed back dash will cause Abel to push up against you during the invincibility frames and burn his ultra. I know this works for several characters but not sure how well it works with Gief’s backdash.

If you’re in range you can also try reversal lariat.

Abel does the ultra and knocks gief Down once, untechable, for 450 damage. Gief can escape.

Gief knocks Abel down, and takes his entire lifebar on the okizeme game. For no meter. Abel cannot escape.

what i do for blanka balls is once you block wait until he is about to head back down to land and U2 his ass! or you can just u2 as soon as you are done blocking and hold it a bit until you see he is about to land and release, always 100% catch for me

hahah yeah mr suplex you need to stop being so sensitive, noone was accusing you. more like a general statement on lots of players who QQ over things that they dont understand and try to beat without knowing what theyre dealing with.

and no, ex GH and phychic jumps ARENT the only answer. ive already suggested the jump and U2 in my post… plus depending on the range you can just jump over/back and not get hit… or like jedahzero said, backdash might work… ppl need to test properly instead of just trying to counter everything with spd, ex spd, ultra etc… the key is to understand how breathless works, its properties and setups… at certain distance/range/scenarios its gonna be tougher to escape, in such cases, the best way is to avoid putting urself in that position especially when you realize the abel has ultra stocked up.

@jedahzero - reversal lariat wont work against meaty U2, too slow.

youre mistaken, abel can escape… with the help of some guessing that heavily favors gief, or psychic call it whatever you want , and guess what, if abel guesses wrong, the whole cycle repeats… so yeah.

I’m guessing as no ones commented on it Gief can just jump over Abel here then?

And then Abel is stunned. And then Abel is dead.

Yeah, I’d take that Ultra II over the amazing Okizeme game, what about you guys?

and yes, I’m aware with stupid luck, psychic powers or controller malfunction abel can escape the zangief vortex. maybe.

LOL yes its possible to escape. Did you forget U2 can be armor broken? Multi Hit Normals? Wait until he comes at you and jump? Theres many ways.

backdash anyone?

Backdash has recovery, remember you can time the release. What Gief needs to do is reserve 1 meter for this situation, he was in range for EX hand I think.

just as an addendum to all this gief nonsense but fierce tt beats his u1 and it also beats t.hawk’s u1 in case anyone was wondering. last night i went for resets after elbows on both characters and they mashed out only to be given the spin cycle!

alright to clarify what I was saying with chun for instance… it wold work with the gief reference too… in the corner… you can’t jump back enough… and with right spacing they won’t be able to jump over either… vs aggressive gief instant release should beat GH. versus defensive hold and wait…

EDIT
Pretty sure Abel has an infinite on Juri. Her hitbox is fun.

EDIT again
Now IJDK
Too much hassle to figure out anyway.

More and more the changes to normals are seeming like less and less.

Is it confirmed that EX hand beats it? It looks like in the vid that the Abel was holding the ultra. If you activate and release instantly, which one wins?

Edit - Agua answers my question.

Should be any TT, not just fierce as long as it’s timed right.

After playing Ryder for a good hour online vs dudley

st.mp is a good way to fight against dudleys st.fp

i noticed that dud has no range and no invincibility in any of his moves.and IMO is only effective in the corner

I didn’t realise till yesterday that st.mp knocks gief out of the air clean at the right range lol. This guy umped at me with jumping hk like 4 times in a row and I just kept batting him away with it, he didn’t know what to do haha.

lol thats old vanilla news. Thats how I beat giefs. With S.Mp.

BUT dont rely on it , a good gief can find away around it and to beat it. I remember sometime back busta was talking about how ultra david was beating it he was playing him.

Gief might be helpless against Abel U2 if Abel can somehow score an untechable knockdown from the perfect range midscreen against a meterless Gief. Even then, Gief can still guess right a well-timed jump. If the Abel can somehow get that knockdown and spacing, and you don’t have meter, AND you guessed wrong, the Abel player earned the damage.

Solution? Always have 1 meter for EX hand available. I know meter management is a foreign concept in the Gief/Abel match for Gief players, but that’s what you have to do.

Stop trying to throw Breathless. It is completely and totally throw invincible for the entire duration you are holding it. Your options are to avoid it or hit it with an armor breaker or fast multi-hitting move.

So a gouken tried to throw me and I did breathless, and he threw me out of it LOL i guess breathless can be thrown on the first frame?

Oh wow that’s crazy. I played a pretty good Gouken player for 40-50 matches and the times he tried to do that, he never got it to work. So, U2 not completely throw invulnerable? lol

Speaking of Gouken, ambiguous rolls get really ambiguous when he uses EX demon flip to get out. Since it tracks, if you roll on the other side you still have to block in the direction of your initial position. It’s kinda weird.
