abels new ultra is so amasing i want to post some vids about how to mind fuck people with it,because ive been able to use it very effective
this made the chun match up easier,the balrog match up easier and the gief and kuma match up playable,and who ever said they werent going to buff fs…told ya so
some characters backdashes you must hold the ultra a sec then release, because abel will attempt to grab while they are airborne.
Too lazy to test, but this has to applicable between Guile’s sweeps, correct?

A couple weird things happened to me today - was fighting Juri and pulled off a U2 when she did her charge up fireball kick. She let it go immediately (it was the HK upwards one) and Abel just pushed up against her - I guess she counts as airborne while releasing the projectile? Kinda lame.
Same Juri, next round, same situation, only this time she does the MK one and lets it go early. FB straight up hit me out of U2, didn’t get absorbed, and didn’t make an armor-break sound/animation. Roommate was watching and saw it too, not sure how, but that’s definitely what happened.

I’ve played some good Rufuses lately. The matchup isn’t helped too much by Breathless.
Juri is definitely good at running away from you, but up close the mindgames are in your favor. Tentatively I think this one’s 5-5.
Cody is really bad at running from you (once you’re in). Rufus:Abel::Abel:Cody is a good analogy for this match, just don’t get Zonked. 6-4 I think.

Was in practice mode today with a friend experimenting with U2 on random stuff. Bear with me through this for a min:
Rose cannot armor break U2 on reaction, animation is too slow.
There is a dist where soul throw or jump will not get her over abel. In the corner jumping back becomes a non issue.
Rose reversal U2 will still work.
In this situation is becomes a guessing game for rose.
If she jumps abel can hold it and catch her on the fall.
If she ex soul spirals and he’s holding it then good shit- armor break
If he immediately releases and she soul spirals then sucks for her it lands.
Now look at the situation again with chun-
She has no soul throw so dist. can be alot closer. Say she def has no charge. then her only option is jump, back dash or maybe mash legs (probably not even this)
Guessing game much more in Abel’s favor and closer dist makes it harder for her to react in time to whenever he decides to throw it out.
This is an example of the situation I see U2 becoming anywhere near offensively useful in in the long run. Right now it’s already useless offensively against anyone competent.
I’ll say other thoughts as they come along

I’ve been playing Dudley pretty much 100% for the past 3-4 days, so nothing new on the Abel front from me. I did play 8 matches of Abel today, because I got a request to play Abel/Cody (won all 8… I’m definitely thinking Abel wins this fight, though it’s not free), but that’s it.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy the fact that so many genuinely good Abel players post so much genuinely good shit here. I don’t know how many of you visit other character forums… but they’re not like this at all. I looked over the Dudley thread to just see where everyone’s head was at… and just… just fuck that place. I know this place has had its fair share of drama, but at the end of the day this is one of, if not, the only forums where the very best players of that particular character feel like it’s worthwhile to post really in depth strategies and specific tactics. :tup:
I’m gonna actually start making something of the first page of this thread in the next couple of weeks as more and more stuff begins to solidify. I’m gonna ask some of you all for shit that I think we’d all like to see, so this thread isn’t as centered around me, as the last one was. That’s one of the reasons I reserved so many spots.

^^^ Word up. It’s not just combo and juice, most of the people here are always posting about everything they find, and everyones always helping each other out.
And it’s genuinely good shit… That’s what impresses me. With most forums, most proficient players don’t even want to be bothered with what goes on, because it’s just so inane in the threads, but with us you can always find good shit coming from Ryder, Hunter, Agua, Juice, Strider, etc. I can’t think of an Abel player with any rep whatsoever that hasn’t contributed to this forum in some significant way.
If you just look at the last page or so of this thread, damn near every posts starts out with “so I tested this…”, and follows with damn near scientific methods of testing used to deliver really solid information. Really good shit.
i dont know if this is of an signifigance(vs Boxer) but ive been able to bait dash punches with roll to another roll into ultra 2(obviously you have to make the player think you are vurnirable),once i rolled under a jump in and then ulta’d b4 he even hit the ground.its crazy
vs adon-i noticed that you shouldnt jump in from anywhere and if you get a knockdown you can bate one of the jaguar diagional thing(dont know the name) then ultra or combo.also it seemed as if the decent adons i played used run away tactics with that wall dive kick to avoid tornado throw.seems more like a ryu 5-5 match if you ask me.its hard to make a come back though
U2 Testing time. If anyone is unsure about these, please test it for yourself and get back to me, as I don’t claim these to be 100% true. It’s just how it worked for me in training mode.

No, it doesn’t work between T.Hawk’s sweep. [I got swept every time despite how fast I input).
Yes, it works to punish Bison’s slide (unsafe only, reversal timing.
Yes, it works to punish Bison’s devil reverse, but only if you don’t time it early.
Yes, it works to punish Seth’s off the wall headstomp (on hit and block).
I’ll update this list as I test.
I’ve been using s.mp as a mid range anti air lately and it has been at least trading with alot of the charecters jump in attempts …noticed it trades with juris air kick shit that she does and I think I trades with t hawks condor dive I’m going to test it out more though so don’t quote me on that t hawk one…but does it seem like s.mp is a better anti air is super than in sf4 to anyone else too??
s.mp has always been a decent AA in vanilla, imo… you just need to know the right spacing to use it.
on another news…
vs deejay… i did some testing to see what can deejay do after getting hit/blocked the first hit of CoD:
(1) st.hp xx hp cod (HIT) followed by 2nd low [finishes optional]:
deejay can only beat the 2nd low with ex jackknife maximum (d,u+KK) - doesnt even have to be reversal, and reversal ex double rolling sobat(b,f+KK) - though i assume to do this is a lil bit harder since chances for the deejay player to keep a down charge is higher than back in this case (cod hit) but i could be wrong.
machine gun upper loses to 2nd low, itll be counter hit but still not enough to get hit by a finish low.
for normal jackknifes :
a) lk jackknife(reversal) will escape the 2nd low but will DEFINITELY eat a finish middle AND EVEN low(if you decided to go for it)
b) mk version will escape and land 2 boxes behind abel but you’ll be able to block his next move if you didnt do anything after the 2nd low.
c) hk version loses to 2nd low, deejay will be sent flying though (so he wont get hit if you followed through with finish middle/low)
- st.hp xx hp cod (BLOCK) followed by 2nd low [finishes optional]:
ex jackknife still beats the 2nd low BUT ex double rolling sobat loses to 2nd low in this case(wont be able to do finish mid/low though), weird i know. ex machinegun upper stay losing.
for jackknifes :

Oh and something extra, CoD is definitely safe against deejay, he cant punish you with anything after blocking any version of CoD. I even tried with cr.jabs, he has faster normals?
Is this listing how Abel can punish on block or whiff? If its on block then i know some of these are wrong.
Other than that good shit, I really dont have time to look up frame data and see whats punishable, so after a couple fixes this list could really be useful.
Also i’ve used u2 a few times after a blocked f+mk on crouching opponents maybe the people I’ve done it to just don’t know the game but it’s worked so far…does anyone know if the start up from crouching to jumping is fast enough to escape ultra two after a blocked f+mk…just wanted to know if anyone has tested that out before i do test it
