Breathless... SUPER Abel Match Theory Thread

I think there’s truth to this, but I also think that in some match-ups, like the Cammy fight, U2 really just is that good.

Like… run down Cammy’s okizeme options. Which one of them doesn’t lose free to U2? The only one that doesn’t lose free is raw, non-FADC’d Cannon Spike (and even against that one, if Abel realizes what’s happening, he can cancel out of U2, and still go fuck her up for that). To me… that says it all. It’s not ignorance of the move that would keep Cammy from pressuring Abel’s wake-up, it’s pure, warranted fear that anything she tries will result in her losing 50% health. That’s real.

And if Cammy can’t pressure Abel’s wake-up… what the hell else is she gonna do to win the fight? It’s a total gamechanger in that particular match, IMO, and I don’t think that’s gonna change as people become more familiar with the move. I just think U2 legitimately fucks certain characters over.

ah okay, didnt play too many cammy’s in sf4 heh, lack of knowledge fail.

The funniest thing happened to me against an Akuma online yesterday.

I knocked him down in the corner. I waited to see what he’d do, and he jumped towards me, so I activated Breathless. He saw it coming and Tatsu’d over my head. I wanted to cancel it, but he activated Demon before I could, so I held Breathless (I’m showing him my back).

He pushed my body for a few seconds, then I stood up, grabbed him, and spun him in circles.

I knew that Breathless was throw invincible, but seeing Abel fart all over Akuma’s demon was glorious.

One of Abel’s win quotes says that it’s all about prediction, reaction and analysis. Clearly you are mistaken.

Good collection of videos on that channel HAV. Thanks. On a side note, in vanilla, was it possible to do cr. fp straight into super? I was under the impression you had to roll into it if you did it that way. I know it’s possible now.

You can launch straight into super in vanilla.

For some reason I miss it against T. Hawk in this game though. Gotta get my roll on, I guess (Big Tymers?).

Couldn’t find this anywhere else but I’m testing some stuff that abel can punish of the new characters - hope this helps a bit

Right now i still have some left to test (and finish some of the stuff thats in there, like more U2 testing). If you find something is wrong or is missing please tell me.

so ive compiled results of abel cr.hp ultra in the corner against every character (posted the link in the combo thread)… but one thing i was kinda surprised of was that, cr.hp ultra in the corner doesnt work against THAWK despite his big ass size. weird hit box FTL

im not sure if its my execution flaw in this case, but you guys are welcome to try it for yourselves…

in other news, i fought an adon for the first time last night, i lost but it was close… anyone here has decent experience against him?(against good adon preferably)… whatchu guys think of the matchup?

I haven’t played any great Adon players online, but for the most part, he just seems hard to punish, so when you get the chance, make it count.

Then again, it might just be me, because my internet is absolute shit and I’m getting frustrated playing online in general. Too many losses against trashy players that abuse the lag.

He’s going to abuse the fuck out of your shitty wakeup. Focus on not getting knocked/locked down too hard is my rule of thumb.

elaborate more on “abuse” please, what are his options/confusing moves/OS etc? its not as bad as giefs stupid wakeup shenanigans though, right? sure abel’s wakeup aint that great but im fine with blocking and teching throws…

vs thawk - j.lp is so good.

So U2 doesn’t lose to Guy’s EX Bushin Senpukyaku. He absorbs the first hit and then you can just wait until he falls down.

so a ryu did an FA and i did U2(didnt hold it) thinkin of punishing, but he let go and my armor absorb the fa and he BACKDASHED away… i tried to simulate this again in training mode but failed everytime… he got lucky?

I faced one last night that was using the fuzzy guard breaks and basically high/lowed to death. It’s some serious shenanigans, for sure.

it’s not as bad as gief, but he has a good guessing game going for him on knockdown with low-to-no-risk against abel.

I play Hawk now also XD

Vs Adon, He really isnt that great vs Abel imo, but he can punish TT attempts and normal throw attempt well, so be careful on that.

As an Adon and Abel player…I’m not sure what to say about the match-up. He has great pokes in the form of st. roundhouse, st. strong, cr. strong cr. forward and even an Abel like St. Lk to keep you out, great mobility across the stage at any given point with Jaguar Tooth and (aerial) Jaguar Kicks. a quick dash, great throw range and a good damage output.

He has one problem that Abel does possess himself though: I do not think any of his specials outside of maybe Rising Jaguar (the up knees, not sure on that one) is throw invunerable, so that crap with throws that’s been done to you you can do right back to him.

Sorry wrong thread

Can you explain how this is done? Is it just f+MK, dash, slight pause, lp+lk and then immediately do the input for ultra 2? Is there anyway to confirm you are doing it right without a training partner to try back dashing and getting fucked?

You do a fwd.mk, then you hold back after its blocked/hit, keep holding back for just a split second to make sure you don’t get hit with reversals, then you back throw.

While you input the throw, start buffering the ultra motion. If you see them jump or backdash just press all 3 kicks. Some characters backdashes can’t be punished by this, I’ll make a list later on.

If you are doing this vs characters that have a aerial move that changes their trajectory you can just punish their jumps with EX/mp fs OR change the timing on ur ultra to punish them.

This OS loses to a couple things (delayed srk is one) but seriously, they have to take big gambles that really isn’t in their favor just to stop it, and that’s winning in my book. Once you condition them to tech after a blocked fwd.mk and to stop mashing on shit or jumping, that’s when TT’s are free.

To get this down in training mode just play as any character and choose abel as the dummy. Just record your os with abel and try to get out of it, practice until you get the timing down.

Excellent thank you sir.

The Akuma’s match up got really better. looks to me like 6-4 in Akuma’s favor.

No more RH pressure, no more OS demon flip grab into SRK, No more loops, and Breathless will make him really scared to do any demon flip move except the palm which can be easily blocked.

Breathless makes up for Abel’s bad defence very well in some match ups.
