Do you understand what cheap means in this context? Because honestly, it’s a very extreme accusation, and should come with some serious support if you’re going to argue it…
So many ultras can be considered, “cheap”, but guess what. You can call them, “cheap” till you’re blue in the face. They will still be there even after you finish bitching about them, lol.
As for my thoughts on Breathless, well…I play a pretty good Abel player and he doesn’t really use it as much against me these days because I bait it and counter a lot. I use Cody with U2, so it’s really easy to have enough time to counter with my own ultra when he readies for Breathless. I can also beat it with criminal upper and armour break his ass, lol.
Oh, plus there’s the easiest thing you could do…jump! It’s great and all that Breathless can be canceled, but I think my friend is finding it better to just go with U1 a lot of the time and combo with it since U2 doesn’t have any real combo potential. Anyway, no, I don’t think it’s cheap.
If you’re going to call this, “cheap” you might as well just get the fuck out and go learn Brawl or something instead, cause this isn’t for you.
The word “cheap” isn’t the problem. Lots of things are cheap. It doesn’t matter. If you want to look at cheap in a fighting game context, cheap is something that you get a lot of payout for, for doing something of minimal effort, and/or minimal risk. In that sense, Breathless can be argued to be cheap. I still disagree, because I think landing that move with any consistency above scrub-level play is really hard, unless you are relegating it’s use purely to punishes… Even then… most competent players will stop doing those moves that get punished, pretty quickly.
Still… if you want to call it cheap. Fine. I don’t agree with you… but I don’t think you’re an idiot.
These arguments that Breathless is somehow impossible to avoid, or even difficult to avoid, are just retarded though. Straight up and down. They are retarded. These arguments always completely miss the all too obvious answers because those answers aren’t convenient to the players. Instead of changing their games (which Breathless definitely makes you do), they’d rather bitch at the game. You guys sound like idiots.

The problem is you call it cheap mainly due to ignorance of basic SF defensive techniques. Like learning how to play ST would teach you some of the techniques required to deal with Breathless. It’s not much more of an issue than dealing with Balrog’s Super in ST. As a matter of fact Balrog’s super in ST is WAY scarier. If Balrog’s ST super was in this game you guys would complain all day. Shit is like 1 frame start up and covers 3/4’s of the screen by the end of the first punch. It also takes away only more than half your life bar and combos off everything. Though no u want to whine about an 8 frame start up grab based ultra that can be armor broken and being grab based limits its combo options severely.

Umm… like… Sagat trade Ultra in Vanilla. No bar spent, HUUUUUUUUGE damage, all for fucking up (unless the Sagat player traded on purpose, in which case it goes from cheap, to pro).
Umm… Ryu’s tip DP -> Ultra, which is a fucking accident 9/10 times you see it.
If you wanna talk Abel, his oki on some characters’ wake up is just freeeeeeeeeee damage for zero effort. Shit is cheap son.
Theres just one problem, this isnt ST and Im not talking about ST. Although I came to support the topic creator, and didnt fully support or explain why I think its cheap doesnt mean I have to. If I am not the only one to come here and just blatantly say its cheap or broken, without explanation, would provide your with the answer. I do not need and prefer not to explain in Sf tongue why “I” think Breathless is cheap, it JUST IS plain and simple, in my eyes. Its not a big deal tho. I am not “bitching” as someone else proclaimed, like I said this isnt a temper tantrum. I know how to avoid it, and what people do to try and avoid it, but believe me there are tons online who feel the same way about its “cheapness”.

Well, reality is I happen to play 2 characters who if get caught in that “goldylocks zone” mid screen is absolutely going to eat it. Abel U2 is going to make me use the inferior Gief u2 just to stay in the air longer. What am I going to do with Balrog??? grrrr.
