This and EX fireball. No Abel should be using breathless against Ryu Soul less is a thousand times better. The only real applicable use for it is delaying the input to try to catch a cross up or punishing bad jumpins/bad footsies. Other wise its a guess when you use it. Soul less will shut down fireballs and add a lot of damage to Abel’s f+mk combos.
breathless will also shut down fireballs, although ex fireball can still stop it. but shotos DO stop spamming the fireball when you have breathless.
like I said earlier, too many people know the abel matchup, and its just so hard to catch people with the c.hp into souless, which is why I like to stick with U2, which may not work for others.
and I’ve seen U2 being used at tournys. saw combofiend use it lovely in the corner against a chun player.

I know about ex fireball and tatsu, and Im not complaining as in “throwing a tantrum” Im just saying for other characters his ultra is definitively VERY CHEAP I mean seriously you can sit behind your keyboard and deny it, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Like someone said earlier, you dont mash out U2 its set up and sometimes that setup wins. When they do catch you, its insane I mean insane amount of health taken off you. Abel is top tier for a reason, I think this is one of them.

Move is not cheap. Its a Super Turbo-quality trap in SSF4, a nice blast from the past. Deal with it.
Its completely avoidable… if you avoid the situation that makes it unavoidable. People seem to have a very difficult time comprehending that deeper level of thinking.
Yeah, like… if I corner Gief, and step back considerably, I can use Breathless, and have a high chance of it hitting (there’s always the chance that he’ll jump/backdash at just the right time)… but if Gief lets me corner him like that he fucked up. It’s that simple.
Every game has stuff like this. Like in CvS2, if A-Bison has full bar, and pushes me to the corner, and my guard bar is flashing, there’s a very, very high chance I’m about to lose 80%. But if I let Bison work my guard bar, gain full meter, and push me into the corner, I have no idea how to fight Bison, because that is precisely what my entire gameplan should revolve around preventing.
In short, you guys suck.
This has been discussed here before. Practically everyone outside of Zangief and possibly Boxer have GUARANTEED ways out of U2 on REACTION. The only way it’s ever going to be guaranteed damage is if you’re whiff punishing something, or using it as a reversal on something -8 on block/hit or worse. For you to say that Abel is top tier because of his LEAST PREFERRED ultra makes no sense.
Abel is top tier because he deals good damage, doesn’t take a lot, and has a very good pressure/mix up game. U2 has nothing to do with any of those reasons. If you look at any top Abel players, you won’t see Breathless outside of a few match ups - it gives him SOME options in previous matches where he didn’t have a lot, but by in large, it’s not the “be all and end all” game changer that you think it is.

LOL you guys are so “E-PRO” Everyone seems to have this persona that they are “elite” and everyone else, if they have an opinion on something “suck”. Based on what I have seen online and also what others seem to think about U2 it just happens to be that the experience between them coincides with the notion of CHEAP. Although we are on a shoryuken.com forum, not everyone sits in front of their computer trying to “master” their characters, and not everyone is a hardcore gamer like some of you are.

Why yes, it does. Almost everyone who came in here crying about how cheap Breathless was made some reference of online play. Online warrior Abel players seem to prefer U2, keep in mind the quality of online opponents.
Established players that commented, some known faces on SRK said “it’s kinda nice, but it’s definitely avoidable”, Abel player or not. Successful Abel players, who you know have good competition, still prefer U1. Go figure.
You’re right, you’re on SRK. This is a place for people wanting to become better players. The first step to that is knowing that you’re never as good as you think, and you’ll always have shit left to learn. If you’re not trying to get better and just wanna rant, this place is not for you, but there’s always the Newbie Dojo. At least have the humility to post there, if you’re not trying to improve (you don’t have to be “hardcore” to do that btw).
