At first I thought these changes sounded borderline ridiculous, but I was thinking of them being put into SSF4 with no other changes. If put into SF4 with no other changes, they don’t sound as stupid. So I think until we see how the rest of the game is changed, it will be hard to tell if these changes will make him #1 or if he’ll be middle of the pack again. I doubt they’d make him low tier, unless the game ends up so balanced low tier is meaningless.
He might not have a real counterpick right now, but he has had counterpicks in the past. Even with these changes, I think he could have them again.
Lolz even vanilla sagat or ryu werent s tier and thats when they had the tools and retarded comeback potentiall and damage. As far as I can see they are only giving fei long tools he should have had.I am just happy that he didnt give a “people who are drawn to gen aren’t out for the most dominating character in the game, they just like his style” type of response.
Remember when Justin Wong said that Guile was still ass? Remember that hands down, Dudley was the best character in the game from all the stuff he could do?
It’s premature to say “Fei long is S-Tier.” because he’s going to get these changes. We have no idea how his changes are going to interact with the other characters changes and that means for Fei. I hardly feel like a cr.mk -> Rekkas or a tenshin with a longer range makes him S-Tier. I’d also like to add that I doubt Seth was serious when he was talking about the startup of tenshin. Who knows what’ll happen in the new game for Fei Long, or basically anybody on the roster at this point.
Seth told me off the record he was joking about the startup time. He ran with it because I mentioned it. The added range he mentioned it to me the 2 times I spoke to him. I agree I dont see these changes to Fei making him S-tier. He still has a hard time against chrage characters as well as fireball characters. These tools will help him some with those matchups.
On to more breaking news. I just got off the phone with Inthul and I could be able to interview both Inthul and Starnab this week and ask them there feelings on Fei’s possible additions as well as pick there brain and get some video/audio math-up tips and also record video of Inthul vs Starnab first to 10. So I will keep you posted.
I agree that these potential buffs will help him in some match ups, but from what I see (I admit I’m still a 2 months Fei scrub…) he already can hold his own against most fireball/charging chars. However, by getting these buffs some other chars will have major difficulties against Fei. Against some chars he already has great comeback potential without the need of meter (I have been so many times at the receiving end of this… :annoy:), especially when those chars that are getting nerfed. So if you add everything together i think he will be at least be A-tier.
Jason you are the Man , that Inthul vs Starnab first to 10 will be sick , and make sure to ask about them about matchups such as Bison , Chun , Balrog , Guile ,Dhalsim , Seth and Claw as i will be extremely curious to hear their thoughts on these .
im speaking theoretically, and in the context of fei with TT speed on his grab. if he was in fact joking about that, and all he gets is cancellable cr.mk, then no he wouldnt be S tier, but it does make an already very viable character, much better.
My HD camcorder has a 120gb hard drive. I think i might fill it up once I am done with them. I will pick there brains until there is nothing left or until they tell me to “FUCK OFF” LMAO
Thanks a lot jason for this investigation ! If i come at EVO please come to me and ask me to buy you a drink haha !
If those changes about Fei are true…damn… he’ll looks like a monster…
The fact that c.mk into rekka is impossible is one of the (well… the) main things that don’t make Fei God Tier lol.
Thanks a lot for the info Jason, this news is pretty damn satisfying, but worrying also.
I highly doubt that Capcom would create a top tier uber dominant Fei Long, so I am a little worried as to what else they may change for him, even if SKill did say there aren’t many nerfs in mind for him. If they improve one quarter of his game, and nerf another quarter of his game and land us in a similar situation as before, then it’s a case of re-learning his nuances, along with the changes to everyone else, all over again; perhaps he would have been best served being left alone in that circumstance.
But, if they do bump his performance up and there aren’t many drawbacks, it would likely be a remarkable difference in his general tier list placing.
As for the U1 juggle situation, if he got three hits on the CW everytime I guess it’d be a good improvement; but if he got the 3 hit ultra too it’d be silly, his comeback potential would soar. Tenshin, cl.HP xx FK, FADC, CW > 3 hit Ultra is like 480 damage ain’t it? That’s a lot considering he has no terrible matchups, and some good ones already… I suppose it’ll have to wait until we see how other character’s changes alter the matchups, but you never know.
Hey guys, I wouldn’t celebrate just yet…who knows, they may find Fei too strong w/ these new buffs and he might not even get them. We can only cross our fingers.
I remember specifically Seth Killian saying Sagat was not going to get nerfed in SSF4 and there will only be buffs to lower teirs. Lesson is this:
What Seth is not final and details change. I am confident Fei Long wont be top teir, but I bet he’ll be more popular than he is now. The last thing I want is Fei Long to become a band wagon characters and have a bunch of exGuile and exRyu players on our boards.
