So I was wondering if the strategy guide for UMvC3 is going to be of the same caliber as the regular MvC3. Does anyone know? I haven’t been able to find an answer meh
The guide is going to be made by Brady games once again. For their sake, I hope so.
well I know its going to be bradygames, but I’m wondering if they’re getting insight from the same people again and if its going to be a bible-esque guide like the previous was

The number of pages remain the same. The contents look the same. My understanding is that they are getting tips from EVO players. So I would assume that it will remain the same caliber.
How the hell are they gonna have the same amount of pages with 12 new characters? Get rid of the galactus section or something?
Condense the glossary, get rid of the “History of the VS games” section, reduce the size of screen shots used in the frame data sections, quite a few other things they can do too. Amazon could also just be doing a placeholder page count at the moment.
the history of the vs games was a good read :\
Amazon’s pagecount is a placeholder. We will almost certainly be over 400 pages this time. We are aiming to exceed the first guide, of course.
Also, just so it’s clear, the content in the guides is entirely the product of the authors listed on the cover. No one hands us data or tips, nor do we just hand over generalized text or notes to some magical “Official” department from which fully written guides spew forth. 100% of the guide is from experienced tournament players. We know what you want because we know what we want, and we will get it to you time/space/circumstances permitting.
And in a general sense we also try to be all things to all people, and we’re a licensed product to boot, so of course we have character art and bios and whatnot, or even stuff like the “History of MvC” piece that is totally unnecessary, but a lot of people liked (which made me glad; I liked writing it).
Anyways, expect a better, bigger guide.
(Edited post for a little more detail.)
<3 Dr. Deelite. You guys can have all my money! Even the change in my car. >_>
after I posted this thread I looked on amazon and saw the info meh; looking forward to this
I wasn’t actually suggesting things be cut, just giving examples of how more info could be crammed into the same page count. I had figured form the start the page count on Amazon was a placeholder, which is why it was the last thing I said.
The first guide came out before the game did too so I would expect the same.
Sounds good to me. The original guide is great. It gives an excellent overview of the game mechanics as well as insight into the capabilities of each individual character. While some of the info was quickly outdated and the deepest combos and team combinations would only eventually by discovered by the pro community once the game was in the wild, the guide remains a great go-to resource for learning new characters and checking vital statistics such as frame data and attack damage. At around 400 pages, it gives an amazing amount of bang for your buck. I look forward to the new one. Keep up the great work!
P.S. The one thing I really hope gets a little more emphasis in the new guide is real team-building. I wouldn’t mind seeing one or two ideal team structures for each character, formed around that specific character’s strengths and weaknesses.
Hit stun values (not frame advantage) for aerial attacks would be a really nice thing to include in the new one. That would be my biggest request.
I would think this would be impossible, given how fluid and open-ended Marvel 3 is. I think what they did in the old guide, mentioning which assists would be of benefit to each character, is the best way to handle it; most ‘ideal’ Day 1 teams will probably be outdated a couple weeks after the game is released, anyway.
I wonder how long till it’s out of date again.
IE: Nemesis loses 1/4 of his HP within the first 2 weeks.
But that’s only after they hear complaints of Nemesis doing too much damage.
Back on topic though, the first Brady games guide is called the bible for a reason.
I get that they’re adding more and trying to make it an ever better guide, but if they kept the format untouched and just added the updates/new characters, I’d be happy as a pig in shit.
But improving on the previous guide? At $20 it’s a fucking steal; it’s definitely worth more
Pre-order for the guide on amazon was like $13 I think, definitely worth it.
No it didn’t.
