i’m watching calzaghe-jones right now, and iadmittedly haven’t watched many of joe’s fights but that “pitty-pat” style of his is beat the hell out of jones nad outpointed hopkins so i don’t feel that much shit can be talked about it.
well, I feel that Calzaghe fought Jones and Hopkins at a good time in their careers when both fighters were out of their primes. Jones at 39 ( almost 40) and Hopkins at 43. Although what Hopkins did against Pavlik was unbelievable. Both Jones and Hopkins were very “gun-shy” at that point in their careers. Jones and Hopkins ten years ago would had made Calzaghe looked amateurish.
But, I would say that Calzaghe is in the running for fighter of the year with two big name wins on Hopkins and Jones. It would be sad to see Calzaghe retire without giving Chad Dawson a fight because Chad is the clear number one fighter ( to Calzaghe’s champion status although he holds no major belt) in the division after his wins on Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver.
yeah i think dawson/calzaghe would be a good fight based off their styles, however just like i thought mayweather should be allowed to retire and wasn’t obligated to fight margarito or cotto i guess i have to say the same for calzaghe. although there are obvious differences, calzaghe definitely has more of a mandate to clear the super middleweight division of challengers than mayweather had to with junior middleweight.
my dream fight scenario would be that pacquiao manages to KO de la hoya and then somehow convinces mayweather to come out of retirement. i feel with a mayweather victory over pacquiao he’d be able to unquestionably say he fought everybody worth fighting.
floyds definitely fighting hatton again which i find odd. i would have preferred if the winner of pac v hoya fought hatton then the winner of that fought floyd.
Huh?
I haven’t heard a single thing about that
why do you think floyd’s gonna fight hatton again? that fight makes no sense for anybody. for mayweather there’s bigger money fights out there and for hatton there’s comparable money fights where he’s a lot less likely to be embarrassed.
hatton v pacquiao or even DLH makes more sense than mayweather. unless he thinks that by hiring floyd sr. he’s figured jr. out…in which case i’d have to say that that didn’t work out too well for DLH.
floyds dad confirmed it a few weeks ago. infact, he’ll consider being hats trainer if the moneys right.
floyd’s dad is hatton’s trainer for his fight against malignaggi. floyd’s dad isn’t even in floyd’s dad has been on the outs with the pretty boy camp for like 2 years now. people forget that the only reason he wasn’t training DLH in the match against pretty boy was bcuz he was asking for too much money, my point being if pretty boy or roger aren’t saying it, then it’s not to be taken seriously.
Thoughts on the Roy Jones/Calzaghe fight?
I still hate Calzaghe
jones looked scared for almost the whole fight. on one hand i was intrigued to see jones getting his own medicine, but on the other hand i was sad bcuz you know there was no way in the world that calzaghe could stand there with his hands by his side pushing his face up against the guard of the old roy jones.
We got fight night coming up in two months, i’ll see if i can record my match and others.
lol, he was showboatin to point of being obnoxious in that fight. Calzaghe was a bad matchup for him speed wise. He didn’t have problem with Tito because of his straightforward style. Would have had a better chance against Hopkins?
So David Haye KOs Monte Barrett in 5 rounds after knocking him down 4 times before that.
Also Montes ring entrance was legendary!! Not the best quality but meh.
haha, wow.
Taylor dominated Lacy last night. Lacy is finished, he hasn’t looked good since Calzaghe obliterated him.
i’d like to see Haye vs Alexander Povetkin. i dont know if haye wins that fght but someone will get ko’d.
That would be an excellent matchup. It seems that David Haye is bitting off more then he can chew by going straight to a matchup with either Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali. Would be an awesome fight with either brother. David Haye brings the personality, charisma needed in the lifeless heavyweight division.
Good win for Taylor, he is now in a traditional European stronghold division ( exceptions, Roy Jones Jr, James Toney) and would have tough fights ahead of him if he fights the following: Mikkel Kessler, Lucian Bute, Carl Froch. Sakio Bika just beat Peter Manfredo so how about Sakio Bika vs. Jermain Taylor ? There’s still Allan Green, Anthony Mundine, Librado Andrade. So all in all, the Supermiddleweight division is looking good with an addition of Taylor. Jeff Lacys career is not dead in the water, he can easily goto Europe and fight any of the top 10.
Nikolai Valuev vs. Evander Holyfield is offical with Oscar de la Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao. Talk about circus fights in the month of December.
My last word on Calzaghe: he is an annoying slapper, that is all.
HBO’s Ring Life
Besides the “Countdown” and "24/7 series, there is a new HBO online series “Ring Life”. A good show to watch even if you are not into boxing.
Ricky Hatton vs. Paulie Malignaggi
it’s good to see Paulie on the big stage, but I see Ricky outworking Paulie. Paulie has brittle hands and is an arm puncher so Ricky will walk through Paulie’s punches. I see it as a U.D. for Ricky. If Ricky gets outboxed, then me may call it a career. Looking forward to hearing the rabid Hatton fans liven up the arena.
I give the UK boxing fans a lot of props, they are the most passionate fans in boxing and any fighter would love these types of fans in their corner.
James Kirkland vs. Brian Vera
This fight could steal the show. James Kirkland is dubbed as a “little Tyson” and is a storm in the ring. Brian Vera is no slouch. Vera is coming off beating top prospect, Andy Lee. Both fighters will come forward for an exciting fight while it lasts.
I got paulie via UD, he’s gonna be too slick for Hatton. Depends a lot on how much the ref lets them hug eachother.
