im sorry i missed it. I was really looking forward to this fight.
I read that also from espn and boxingscene. if that spectacle is made, it would make de la Hoya vs. Pacquiao a legit match-up
Showtime’s biggest fight card this year is on tonight. One of the best double headers in a good while:
Samuel Peter vs. Vitali Klitschko
Antonio Tarver vs. Chad Dawson
Sam Peter vs. Vitali is one weird toss up match. Peter is giving up aound seven inches in height and seven inches in reach. And we all know Vitali Klitschko has been “on the shelf” for four years due to injury. If Vitali is healthy as he says he is, I’d say he wins by _______…
I’ve been on the front seats of the “Bad” Chad Dawson bandwagon for a good while. This all south-paw fight should be a good one. Dawson needs to test Tarver’s stanima deep in the later rounds and he should be all right.
The light Heavy division has a potential three way dance between these big names where the losers and winners would be good match making for each other:
Antonio Tarver vs. Chad Dawson
Kelly Pavlik vs. Bernard Hopkins
Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr
Countdown to Pavlik vs. Hopkins

As much as I like B- Hop, this is a bad fight for him
Vitali Klitschko’s ring entrance is probably the best ring entrance ever:

Oh shit the former world champions like Mike Tyson and George Foreman!!! And Evander Holyfield, who will probably be a champion again too!!! Damn this shit on Saturday is gonna be bigger than any UFC or WWE pay-per-view I’ve seen…
jus watched the peter/klitschko fight, good shit. wladimir was definitely holding his ass off in the early rounds, i totally agree with lederer. if peter can get his stamina up he’ll be borderline unstoppable in the divison though, klitschko has KO’d peeps with his jab before and peter was just eating his straights and crosses like they were nothing until the tail end of the 12th round.
and as far as peter hitting in the back of the head, it’s hard not to do that when the other guy is grabbing and turning his body away from you.
Peter has had his chance twice now, he had his opportunity to change and whatnot, so he’s basically screwed imo. Klitchko brothers have to be the most boring fighters to watch in the most boring devision.
Dawson looked like a beast, who is next?!
Vitali/Peter fight was boring in my opinion…peter didnt come in with a game plan…vitali was jabbing and backing up…pretty one sided fight, boring as hell, the only cool thing about it was the ring. Vitali winning didnt really help the heavyweight division since both brothers wont fight, there wont be any unification any type soon…so expect wladamir and vitali fight a couple of unknowns. Seriously last big heavyweight fight i remember was vitali and lewis, which btw lewis fucked up vitali. so yeah both brothers ruining the heavyweight division…
I love watching these countdown shows. Get to know a bit more about the boxers. Unfortunately I can’t watch this fight since I’ll be working.
oh shit i totally downloaded/watched the wrong klitschko/peter fight lol.
but yeah, dawson beat the hell out of tarver. i’m glad bcuz i’ve always disliked tarver, he’s like a less talented, less amusing roy jones.
espn.com’s top five heavyweights:
-
Wladimir Klitschko (WBO, IBF) [ jab, jab, jab, jab, pitty pat, jab]
-
Vitali Klitschko (WBC) [ good comeback win, actually throws combinations]
-
Nikolai Valuev (WBA) [ 7’0" circus]
-
Ruslan Chagaev ( beat Valuev, but lost the title due to injuries)
-
Alexander Povetkin ( undefeated, vs. Waldimir on Dec 15)
nothing against Eastern European heavyweights, but they are NOT EXCITING at all. I give them all the credit for dominating this generation’s heavyweight division, but there is no drama at all. I don’t mind seeing Vitali and Waldimir as titleholders simply because there is no one else out there. boxing needs a dominate U.S. heavyweight again to excite the division, as well as the whole sport in general. U.S. heavyweights always had transcended the sport: Joe Lewis, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson. Without U.S. dominate heavyweights, the next generations heavyweights are going to be a bunch of Klitschkos. Maybe David Haye could keep his promise and provide the needed drama.
Margarito and Cotto are not going to immediately rematch so Mosley could fight Margarito
Cotto is taking a tune up in Puerto Rico ( Kermit Cintron or someone coming up from junior welter) and Margarito is going to fight Joshua Clottey and not Shane Mosley. Reason being that there is not enough money on the table for that fight and the focus is a Marg. v. Cotto II. Margarito and Clottey both have the same promoters making this fight much easier to happen.
My prediction for Pavlik vs. Hopkins. Pavilk UD, but Hopkins will not go down.
anyone watching tonight’s fight and would like some information on the undercard fights to make it a bit more interesting:
Middleweights: Daniel Jacobs (10-0, 9 KOs) vs. Tyrone Watson (7-1, 3 KOs), 6 rounds
Look out for Daniel Jacobs. A highly decorated amateur groomed to be the next big thing, hence the ring name “The Golden Child”. He is called by some, the future of American boxing. He turned pro on the undercard of Mayweather vs. Hatton.
Middleweights: Marco Antonio Rubio (42-4-1, 37 KOs) vs. Enrique Ornelas (28-4, 18 KOs)
The one to look out for is Marco Rubio. If he wins and Pavlik wins, they could meet up next if Pavlik can’t secure a big fight against the Calzaghe vs. Jones winner (Pavlik at light heavy) or the Arthur Abraham vs. Raul Marquez winner (Pavlik making middleweight title defense).
Featherweights: Steven Luevano [WBO champ] (35-1-1, 15 KOs) vs. Billy Dib (21-0, 11 KOs)
Steven Luevano is a personal favorite fighter of mine. Slick south paw boxer, but can also fight as seen in his last fight, which was a hard fought draw. Still, I wouldn’t call him a boxer-puncher. He is a pure boxer that can set compubox records for “jabs thrown” and “jabs landed”. He’ll probably never main event a fight card because of his style and it seems his promotion (Top Rank) is not advancing his career, at least he can be seen on high profile fight’s undercard. Billy Dib is an undefeated Australian fighter.
Light heavyweights: Kelly Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs) vs. Bernard Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs)
With Mayweather, Hopkins, Mosley, de la Hoya retiring, Kelly Pavlik is the face of American boxing. Most boxing scribes/ writters are selling this fight more with the question “Can Pavlik can knock out Hopkins?” rather then a competitive fight between two fighters. I doubt Pavlik can knockout a skilled veteran like Hopkins, but I’m thinking that Pavlik will take over in the second of the fight to a unanimous decision. This could be Hopkins last fight.
Agreed with pretty much everything you said.
Don’t know if I’ll be watching tonight’s event though, I’m not completely sold on it. Same goes for DLH - Pacman
who’s fighting tonight?.. man, i should really know this.
Pavlik vs. Hopkins
thnx
if pavilik hit harder than calzaghe he wins on points if he doesnt, hops wins on points.
For a fan of both this is truly a lose - lose fight. Pavlik doesn;t gain too much by beating B-hop, and nobody want to see B-Hop get KO’d(which wont happen). But if Bhop wins, a really great up and comer gets sonned!
bhop owning up after 3
its the kkk/execution mask he wore to the ring no doubt
