Stop being a hater. If he fights Hoya this year when Cotto will more than likely fight Margarito it’s not getting in the way. He may not fight Hatton again so he could potentially and likely fight Cotto next year.
Fighting Hoya is a risk to his perfect record in anycase, he may not be in his prime but he still has a natural weight advantage against Mayweather so landing a series of flush hits on Mayweather could spell the end.
If Mayweather were to fight Cotto now it wouldn’t bring in as much money in anycase. It would be bad marketing. As things stand money can be made on Cotto vs Margarito, Mayweather vs Hoya. Then possibly Mayweather vs Cotto.
Also assuming you respect Cotto higher than Mayweather, what risk did Cotto have to his perfect record fighting Gomez today?
Except Cotto has been actively pursuing Mayweather while Mayweather choose to ‘retire’ when it’s convenient and then announce hes gonna try to runback ricky hatton and delahoya. are you honestly telling me you REALLY want to see that runback? Or do you wanna see Mayweather actually prove something new? Mayweather has been trying to play it off and downplay Cotto for a minute, and I refuse to buy it anymore. Until these 2 fight and there is a winner, I call out Mayweather.
Yes I want to see Mayweather fight Cotto, when the time is right. Marigoto and Cotto are more than likely going to fight if Mayweather doesn’t fight Hoya in that time he would be inactive during that time and basically turn down cash on a free day.
If Hatton fights Mayweather again in 2009, I would have no complaints if the next scheduled fight was Mayweather vs Cotto. If fight never occurs between the two I will see it as ducking but right now I see the fight occuring.
What people fail to realise is boxing is what brings him money. He can have his money fighting Hatton and Hoya, he can then have Cotto and more money by waiting. Patience.
The Cotto-Gomez fight should have been stopped after the fourth round. He had no chance of winning and he was taking the beating that I and everybody on this board knew he was going to take. I also got to give credit for Cotto getting off the gas pedal and not tearing into him and waiting for the doctor, ref or his corner would stop the fight.
Margarito-Cintron went exactly how I thought it was going to go. Margarito was too strong, too big, and just to relentless for Cintron. That left hook to the body was painful.
Margarito-Cotto in July wil be a fight of the year candidate. Will it unseed Vazquez-Marquez III? I have no idea. But the shit will be dope and I wish I can fly out to New York to see the fight.
I haven’t seen much of him but from what I saw in this match up he is impressive though he doesn’t look smooth to me I don’t know his footwork and stance shifting looks a little bit stiff. If he were to fight Mayweather I feel that Mayweather would soundly win.
Maxx - if you want to see a fight with a similar atmosphere to the Mayweather vs. Hatton fight, check out the Hopkins vs. Calzaghe fight next week. US vs. UK, this time though, the UK fighter is the favorite.
Cotto is nothing fancy, but he does everything well.
I will route for Hopkins, as a black man I can’t route for Calzaghe it’s nothing personal it’s just that some people will be wanting to see the black man ‘‘lynched’’.
I also have a degree of respect for Hopkins, he went to prison he came out to prevent going back to the same life style he worked hard at boxing.
I would say he is a prodigy, he trains really hard to get where he is but a lot of it is just the fact that he is a natural genius at boxing in my opinion.
Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry. madison square garden packed with puerto ricans and mexicans. If Cotto loses, NYC will riot, especally those in MSG. I would love to be their and see this fight live, too.
Cotto is as a complete fighter as they come. Check out his welterweight fights - Quintana, Judah, Mosley. He can out jab the boxer in Mosley and Judah, and out slug the puncher in his light welter days.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. comes from a boxing family. it is in his blood. Floyd Sr. fought the great Sugar Ray Leonard. His uncle Roger is a two division champ and Floyd’s other uncle Jeff is an accomplished fighter.
tonights fights were short and sweet, but im sick of trainers thinking its alright to let their fighters get fucking killed for the slight chance of hope he can pull a victory out of his ass.
hopkins is my favorite fighter and i am really pullin for him
though realisticaly calzaghe is right to be seen as the favorite
trainers be watching too much of dat hajime no ippo. lol. thinking their fighters will show their guts and get them through the fight wit some miraculous comeback.
I’m rooting for Hopkins, but Calzaghe is very skilled. Bernard has played the underdog role before against Tarver and Trinidad, and won. Hopkins fights well against southpaws with a perfect record of 10 - 0. Calzaghe has never fought outside his home country and that can play a role. If I had to pick an outcome of this fight: Calzaghe, UD 7 rounds to 5 or 8-4. Hopkins is 43 years old and is on borrowed time.
I was thinking that Manny Steward would take Cintron to the next level by beating Margarito. This fight should have been competitive. I don’t know wtf happened to Cintron
Well, tonight is the night… Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins. Im going for Bernard, but Calzaghe is gonna give him hell. I wouldn’t put any money on this fight.
