ricky never had any momentum, i’ll say the same thing i was saying last night, “CHECK THE COMPUBOX!” hatton was bulling floyd into the corner, but that still wasn’t helping him land any punches. i get that he was trying to conserve energy and didn’t want to flurry needlessly like de la hoya did, but you can’t expect to win a fight when you’re throwing only 15 punches around and landing like 3.
but seriously i wonder what hatton thought would happen when he bullrushed floyd. i mean after all floyd just came down from 154 and hatton is moving up, granted floyd is known for his power but i mean shit gameplan seemed a little flawed.
Wow funny guy. And you know for fact that I booed the US national anthem? Didn’t think so. I am not so crass as to do that. Hattons ‘fluke’ comment was said sarcastically but then sarcasm escapes you. Pretty sad that you also have to fall back on some video game shit to support yourself. The one here with no class is you. I’m done with you.
Ref was bullshit but Mayweather can only fight what is in front of him and he did it well. Props to the guy.
mayweather’s fluke comment aside, he still bitched about some “questionable” officiating. did he really expect the ref to stand around doing nothing while he shoved floyd into the ropes and get repeatedly tangled in his arms? it wasn’t as if he was in there mixing it up and the ref broke them apart.
I was going apeshit when Hatton was getting lit up in the 8th round. I’m Grand Rapids born and raised so there was probably 18 people at my house here in Grand Rapids; most of whom were pretty quiet during the De La Hoya fight. This time though everybody was having a good time. It’s kind of an incomparable feeling having you favorite athlete during your own generation be the absolute best as well as your hometown hero. It was almost as crazy as feeling the entire Van Andel Arena shake when Floyd was putting the hurt on N’Dou in 2004.
A fighter who is conscious of things like a “pull counter” or “check hook.” It’s going to take someone with a better reach, good offensive skills using straight punches, and decent speed. The punches don’t necessarily have to be in bunches but the ones that do land really have to be precise and worthwhile. Someone like Ike Quartey, Vernon Forrest, or even Kostya Tszyu.
Right now I’m not sure because Cotto doesn’t have nearly enough foot speed or defense to threaten Floyd. Hell, I’d even give Clottey a better chance than Cotto.
I had my entire family with some friends and most are not hardcore boxing fans, but they all enjoyed the fight; goodtimes. The entire household was like, “WTF” when the british starting booing the anthem.
good anaylisis as always. I do not “dislike” Hatton. He is a blue collar media loveable kinda guy, I justed hated his soccar hooligans type fans having no respect at all with the booing of the US National Anthem. I was going crazy when Mayweather FINALLY started to put his punches together. I would yell at the TV, “WTF ROGER!” everytime he would say," pot shot" as his corner advice. Mayweather putting punches together is a beautiful thing to watch and as well as his jab when he leads with it. For a boxer, Mayweather is such a late starter. Does he do that on purpose making the other guy get tired out?
If Hatton got knocked out by the fighter with the least power ( in comparison to Cotto, Williams, Cintron), Hatton should quit his campagin in 147 and go back down to 140 and try to unite all the titles. This was the first fight I saw a fighter landing “zero” punches in Hatton’s 8th round performance.
Floyd is comfortable “in the pocket”
Joe Cortez halted the action to lecture too much and was a terrible ref.
Ricky Hatton vs. Junior Witter should be Hatton’s next fight. Good UK vs. UK rivalry.
Agreed, to me its always been hilarious anyone would doubt Floyd’s inside fighting skills when he could compete with Castillo, Julio Cesar Chavez’ lead sparring partner for 24 rounds. Not to mention he fought 12 of those one handed.
Agreed.
Agreed.
Agreed.
Floyd is definitely FoTY, but I’m sure someone will insist that there is some reason to give it to fucking Pacquiao again.
The only thing I will agree with here is that it was a good fight to end the year.
Crybaby…no. Disappointed…yes. As you would be if your fighter loses.
@ Stylistics. It is always the football hooligan fans that have no respect and ruin the image of English fans in general. Witter v Hatton would be a great UK fight as Witter has always said he wants Hatton and Hatton can restart if he gets that. Heres to boxing in 2008.
