All Roads come to boxing, Im serious. You just realise the talent in boxing is so high compared to a lot of other combat sports.
i actually watch MMA more than boxing currently, simply bcuz it’s easier to find and download MMA events than non-megafights.
Tommy Hearns is my favorite boxer of all time too, hands down. I’m right handed but when I train I fight southpaw, but I don’t have his build or longass arms so detroit hitman style is useless to me, hahaha.
bob arum is such a fucking scumbag, i almost forgot that he was all for having margarito fight in mexico during his suspension.
He’s looking to set him up against Pacquiao too.
More I’m looking at events is the more I feel he had no intention of Pacquiao fighting Floyd. Guy seems determined to have Pacquiao fight in Texas and up against his own fighters. He ensures that if his fighter loses the hype will transfer his next fight.
With Cotto, he should try and negotiate with another promotional company see if they’d buy his contract out with Top Rank. I’d take Arum’s actions as disrespect. Giving a pay check to someone who shaved years off of his career by cheating, also the negotiations with Pacquiao no way Cotto should have gone in at 145lbs for a Welterweight fight.
I had :wtf: going on while reading Arum’s reaction when Margarito was suspended.
Margarito was suspended for illegal handwrapping right? What’s the difference between him and the boxer that used plaster on his wraps 20 years ago?
Also from the fabulous four my favourite was Haggler, didn’t grow up in their era but my dad had tapes then internet. Anyway I liked his fundamental boxing style and toughness efficiency over prettyness.
That being said, Leonard is one of my favourite boxers of all time ( still feel Haggler won ) he’s probably the most complete boxer I’ve seen in terms of speed, power, chin/heart and boxing ability.
Margarito didn’t get caught using it he got caught trying to use it. Resto ended Collin’s career and likely drove him to suicide.
Really the scum bag should be banned from boxing. People say that he didn’t use the wraps against Cotto but common sense tells me that if he would use plasters in a fight where he’s the favourite he would use it in a fight where he is the under dog.
I usually don’t like seeing fighters get hurt in the ring but I was more than happy to see Mosley beat him like a bitch.
resto took padding out of his gloves, no plaster; but he went to jail him and his trainer were banned for life. margarito will probably be fighting before may.
I don’t blame Mosley for going at Mayweather.
Get your money while you can.
Nah he did both.
Resto, at a news conference on Thursday in New York, acknowledged that the tape used to wrap his hands in that fight had been soaked in plaster of Paris, giving him a pair of hardened casts underneath his unpadded gloves.
He just didn’t get caught on the night of the fight rigging his wraps. That was really an incredibly disgusting thing to do.
REALLY want to see Gamboa and Lopez. =D
Haven’t seen this thread in a while. Nice to see it has stayed on course.
The fight didn’t go long enough for me to think that way. He did what he was supposed to do as a boxer but Mtagwa left himself too open. There where points in the fight where another boxer would have stayed behind the jab and not left himself open to big shots on the chin. I think when a fighter gets hurt there is an eagerness to show that they are not hurt and to try and salvage the round which gets them battered some more.
I think he looked good but he’s still unproven in my eyes.
wow that’s crazy, i mean i stilll feel kinda bad for resto but i definitely have less sympathy than before when it was arguable still up in the air if he knew exactly what was going oin.
Mayweather is a bitch
Anyone else watched the “Tyson” documentary? I found it to be pretty moving. Mike was always one of my favorite boxers who could have done so much more with his career. Shame.
I thought that guy died in a car accident?
‘‘On March 6, 1984, he crashed his car into a culvert near his home in Antioch, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. He was killed on impact. Many commentators, as well as Collins’ family, believe that the loss of his livelihood broke him psychologically and that his death was a suicide.’’
I suppose suicide isn’t fact.
there’s a documentary called “Assault in the Ring” that is about Luis Resto/Billy Collins. I believe i heard one of Collin’s friend implying that Billy wanted them to take a ride in his car intending to crash it, so the friend declined
I don’t follow boxing that much but just from that interview that Bob Arum did where he said MMA was for “white skinheads” who roll around like “homosexuals” and that they can’t throw a punch to save their life and that they have no chins… hes pretty douchey.
Sure, the boxing is definitely nowhere near the level of pro boxers… anyone will agree with that, but to say they can’t throw a good punch? >_<
