It was a good fight, but I was a little let down. Mosley was confused when Cotto was out boxing him. Cotto is so much a complete fighter now. His stinging jab is like a right cross and out boxing Mosley says a lot of Cotto’s skills. I would like to have seen Mosley thrown more hooks ( I was yelling at the TV for Mosley to throw hooks two rounds before his father said something about that), but good fight overall that falls short of greatness.
I believe Mayweather would not risk his record on Cotto ( if he beats Hatton) and retire after the Hatton fight leaving Cotto with three choices:
A fight with Hatton if Hatton beats Mayweather ( my opinion: if Hatton beats Mayweather, he would stay clear of Cotto, Margarito, and 147 except with a fight with Oscar).
Winner of Cintron - Williams . Unify the titles
A fight with Margarito. This fight with a nationalistic theme would rekindle the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry.
Joan Guzman vs. Humberto Soto this Saturday, should be a good fight. Then its on to Mayweather - Hatton. Good fight to end a very good year in boxing 2007
Funny thing is I was watching the 4/5/6th round of Mayweather-Baldomir and thought to myself “geez someone should make a gif of that.” It happened to be that very highlight from round 4.
I goto Eastside ( i just make my boxing gifs. to show there) and Boxingscene, but I don’t really like boxing forums, reading comments like:
“nuthugger”, “hater” gets old. As well as asinine comments like," Hatton should get paid more ( against Mayweather) because he has a better record." “Roy Jones is the most overrated fighter” and a million Pacquiao threads on top of that. Blah, Blah, Blah. Though not too many boxing fans here, I’d rather talk boxing in SRK.
As for Mosley, he didn’t have too much head movement even if he had the foot movement and I hated when he would flicker his jab out there, pawing his lead hand, then Cotto would counter that. Mosley was there to be hit. Cotto was relaxed throughout the fight while Mosley looked uncomfortable at times. Seeing Cotto “protecting his lead” was something new. I would like to see how Cotto would react against a high volume puncher like Paul Williams or a Margarito.
i’ll cast “life 2” on this thread before the Mayweather - Hatton fight.
I read the doghouse, eastside, saddo, and fighthype forums. The ignorance/bias etc gets on my nerves to the point where I can’t really stand even putting forth the effort to reply. I always end up wasting my time trying to give examples of real critical analysis but it’s hard to discuss how Pacquiao has his faults when they have an avatar of him with the name “pacnumba1!!”
My only concern with Cotto fighting high volume punchers is that the couple at welter right now have much larger body frames.
He’s awesome.People always talk about how he acts outside of the ring, like they expect him to act like he does outside of the ring and automatically lose inside the ring. It’s retarded
The only fights that matter that can used in comparison are both of the fighter’s last three:
Mayweather - de la Hoya, Baldomir, Judah
Hatton - Castillo, Urango, Collazo
Based on the performance of these two fighters in their last three fights, I just can’t see Ricky Hatton winning this fight unless he gained an incredible amount of speed from his training camp. Hatton has a seven inch reach disadvantage against Floyd. Its obvious Hatton can’t out jab Floyd. Although, I can say that Ricky will put up a helluva better fight then Oscar did. Ricky probably needs to sell out and pressure like he has never done before, but Floyd is one of the most relaxed fighters in the ring.
Will the ref. allow Ricky to “hit and hold”? Ricky will bring a lot of: spirit, heart, and his best effort, but based on each of the fighter’s last three fights, I can’t see Ricky Hatton winning this one. But everyone loves that true “underdog” vs. “supreme talent” and everyone loves the underdog.
here are a couple gifs. I made that might be the case of the fight:
Ricky Hatton may look like a killer in training but it is going to be a completely different story in the ring. While watching 24/7 I had to snap myself back to reality and remember this is the same guy who needed nine rounds of basically free shots on Carlos Maussa to put him down. He didn’t exactly destroy Juan Urango either. Especially when you have one of the best counter punchers in the world snapping your head back with uppercuts.
I’m sure when the when the spotlight is turned on camera rolls on Mayweather, he goes through this transformation of his personality just to sell tickets. Just watching the 24/7 series back in April de la Hoya - Mayweather, the scene with Mayweather’s physical where the doctor is being interviewed showed Floyd’s real side; not on camera. Just like the old WWF, the main event has to have a good guy and bad guy because it makes the fight more interesting to watch. When the spotlight is off of Floyd, I’m sure he is as normal as everyone else.
If only Cotto vs. Mosley had more smack talk, that fight could have been bigger, but Mosley is a class act and Cotto is more of “I’ll let my fists do the talking in the ring”.
Biolink: what’s your opinion on the outcome of Mayweather - Hatton?
I even forgot that their is boxing on Showtime this weekend: Showcase of Antonio Tarver, Vernon Forrest, and newly crowned Flyweight champion Nonito Donire will be fighting.
Wow that’s nice.So you are a Pinoy?Have you ever talked to Pac-man before?
Well the referee is supposedly Joe Cortez and he HATES clinching,so that’s probably a minus for Ricky.
I could get indepth as for the outcome.I’ll just say that Hatton is a good boxer, but Mayweather is on another level.Hatton has a punchers chance, but to even fathom landing any significant damage he has to catch Mayweather first, and Mayweather’s and Mayweather has the reach advantage so if he comes in sloppy,he’ll be eating counter uppercuts and jabs all night.
Mayweather’s speed, and defense are also top-notch,so he’s pretty much superior in everything for maybe except his punching power, and its already common knowledge that Floyd has weak hands.Ricky’s a pretty good body shot puncher, but just because he landed one good shot,on a shot fighter(pun intended)people seem to be expecting some miracle.
yeah i’m pinoy haha. he gave hooked it up with a suite and 4 $300 tickets to his morales fight last year.
he’s been to my house a couple of times before haha. he’s really nice and shit, even signed my fight night and took some pictures. he told me that he doesnt get copies of his fights on ppv so we watched some of his fights while he was telling us what he was thinking during the fight.
