Boxing Thread

^Yeah, Luis confirmed Panama had spiked the water bottle with Asthma medication. In both his case and Aaron Pryor’s.

I’ve seen some really bad calls in my short time in actively watching boxing again, but why is this sport still so prehistoric? The major sports ( in America) has adopted full or partial use of instant replay. When will the sport of boxing get out of the (bat) cave and modernize the sport.

Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, both young, undefeated and title holders in the same division. I doubt they would fight each other so soon.

Champion and title holders at 140:

Manny Pacquiao ( linear, Ring)

Timothy Bradley (WBO)

Juan Urango (IBF)

Amir Khan (WBA)

Devon Alexander (WBC)

Junior Welterweight division probably has the most solid title holders in boxing right now.

Yeah I really don’t understand why they are so resistant to the idea. I remember Lennox Lewis commenting on a match and saying how video footage needs to be used to prevent slips being called knockdowns and such and Larry Merchant, ancient fuck that he is stared making excuses about how it would be ‘too slow to use’ or some shit.

Won’t lie, I shed a few tears when he was confessing the truth.

i need someone to tell me if its true or not. A freind of mine told me that the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight isnt going down. Please tell me hes fucking up and its not true.

Your friend is right, for now.

Besides the monetary dispute from both fighters. This fight cannot even happen (at the highest grossing level) if one or both fighters lose their next fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (Sept 19)

Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto (Nov 14)

Cotto is the favorite (imo) against Pacquiao and Mayweather “should” beat Marquez easily.

holy shit arreola is fighting vitali?!

i’m cheering for USA, but smart money is on vitali for sure.

Just read that Roy Jones Jr is fighting Lacy on Aug 15? anyone know if that fight’s for a belt?

jones jr has a few worthless belts that it could be for…but i mean nothing important.

If this fight is really official, then I will go down to Staples to see this one live. I always wanted to see a big heavyweight fight and this is big.

My main concern for Chris Arreola is “does he have the proper preparation time for this fight”. This fight seemed to be made in a hurry after David Haye “chickened” out.

Arreola might have not have a full (at least) 8 week camp. There is no weight requirement, but (body shape wise) he better look good.

For the good of boxing, it need a U.S. heavyweight champion again. Chris has the size, heart, brawler style that can give the Kilt. bros. problems.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez - looking at recent pics from the Marquez camp, he looks “huge”.

i saw the date as sept 22nd (i think) last night on friday night fights

Not really excited for Roy Jones Jr. vs Jeff Lacy. Ever since Lacy took a beating from Calzaghe he has devolved into a sloppy one punch knockout seeker.

Here’s hoping his trainer knocked some sense into him, because if he didn’t Roy Jones will for a quick buck.

I have some interest in the Jones Jr. - Lacy fight, but I’ll probably order the other PPV instead. Top Rank’s PPV featuring Nonito Donaire vs. Rafael Concepcion ( the guy that beat A.J. Banal and lost to Jorge Arce in a slug fest), Steven Luevano vs. Bernabe Concepcion, showcase of Anthony Peterson.

Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams (Oct. 3)

Now, this is a good fight. Two of the top American fighters against each other. Paul Williams is finally facing an opponent his size (and bigger). Paul Williams doesn’t have the power but he has movement and volume. Pavlik, obviously, has the power and the reach and height.

Can Paul Williams stand in front of Pavilk and have an output of around 100 punches a round without being tagged? After seeing an old Bernard Hopkins box circles around Pavilk, has Pavlik learned to deal with movement? He will have to in Paul Williams.

I want Jones to retire, I think moving up to heavyweight fucked him up in the sense that he had to overexert himself when he moved back down in weight.

I’d like to see him winning against Jeff Lacy but what happened against Calzaghe was embarassing and painful to watch. I don’t like seeing boxers I looked up to as a shell of their former self losing to someone they would demolish in their prime.

I think Pavlik and P Williams will be a good fight. I think PW will win on points though I see Pavlik coming strong in the later rounds if he can get PW with a clean punch.

Huge as in Hatton huge or huge as in he looks comfortable and strong?

Pavlik vs Williams sounds out of this world. I missed Pavlik’s last fight but will be sure to catch this one. We have some great fights coming in Sept/October, I’m trying my best to be patient til then.

2009 keeps bringing in the good fights.

Huge as in Incredible Hulk huge. Marquez is looking big, in a good way. But one thing about fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighters seem to go about him the wrong way. They always say," I’m the bigger, stronger fighter." Which is nice and all, but how are they going to “catch him?” Power ain’t shit if you can’t hit anything. I think Marquez needs movement, foot speed. He needs to cut off the ring and make Floyd un-comfortable. At Marquez’es age, he can’t just gain more speed.

Face-off pics of Vitali Klitschko vs. Cristobal Arreola (Sept. 26)

Height isn’t everything, but it’s a lot in pre-fight analysis.

Anyone have a link/ video for tonight’s Roy Jones Jr fight? Its done now but would like to watch it.

Thanks

lacey sucks, good shit roy.
