Boxing Thread

Floyd Mayweather jr. isn’t charismatic at all. Watching his interviews over the years, the media loves to provoke any spontaneous response from him.

England only had one title holder in Carl Froch, but now Amir Khan joins him as another title holder. Khan moved up to 140 lbs ( probably to avoid the heavy hitters at lightweight) to beat the weakest title holder there for the WBA belt. It is a good win because many doubted him and for Khan, he sets up shop in his new division. Junior Welterweight division is a strong division:

Manny Pacquiao (Linear Champion, Ring) - has bigger fish to fry at welterweight. Probably will face off against Miguel Cotto.

Amir Khan (WBA) vs. Ricky Hatton - people in England wants to see this fight. Ricky Hatton would be taking a big risk of being out-classed here and Hatton is not too much of a puncher these days.

Timothy Bradley Jr. (WBO) vs. Nate Campbell - look for this fight in August. Don’t miss this fight.

Devon Alexander vs. Junior Witter - For the WBC belt that was stripped from Timmy Bradley. Devon Alexander “The Great” is an undefeated prospect from St. Louis.

Juan Urango (IBF) - Would be a good test for Khan, is in the main event at Friday Night Fights in August.

Get Hype!!!

khan is real cute in the ring, but he doesn’t have a chin which seems like it’d be a problem since hatton has size on his side and will probably bully khan around the ring.

The more Amir Khan spends time with Freddie Roach, the more he’ll get better. Until then, he’ll still has the “china chin” reputation and 140 lbs has some bangers: Marco Maidana, Juan Urango, Kendall Holt. Khan can’t avoid punchers for the rest of his career.

I’m sure Khan will be the bigger fighter, physically, if he fights Hatton. It’s hard to see Hatton coming back from his last loss and I would say he would get out boxed. Khan is the fresher legs and imo, Hatton’s power is overrated at the elite level, I just don’t see the power in Hatton, just pressure, bully tactics.

Showtime’s super middleweight tournament, round 1:

Arthur Abraham (2) vs. Jermain Taylor (5)

Carl Froch (3) vs. Andre Dirrell (6)

Mikel Kessler (1) vs. Andre Ward (4)

My opinion of the fighter’s ranking coming to this tournament. Showtime is going with the “Americans vs. Europeans” match up. A good match up for the first round. Jermain Taylor can out box Abraham if his stamina can hold up, Dirrell will beat Froch, Ward can beat Kessler.

Very excited to see JT vs Arthur Abraham after Abraham’s last fight.

Haye vs Valuev for November. We will see now if Dave can back up his words against a bigger man who has only lost once in 50 fights.

That came outta left field. One one hand, David Haye is looking like a bitch for ducking, once again, the Klitschko brothers. This might of pissed off the brothers so much that they might not give Haye a shot at them, never again. On the other hand, most people said Haye didn’t didn’t deserve a shot against them anyways and it might be a possible good move. Haye doesn’t stand too much of a chance against the harder hitting older brother. Haye can take the last remaining belt that is not on either Klitschko’s waist and holding the last belt ( for whatever it’s worth) may help him get more money. It is said that Haye is making “peanuts” against the Klitschkos.

But, Haye would have to get past the 7’ Valuev. Valuev may be seven feet tall, but he doesn’t fight like one. Valuev lost to 6’ Chagaev and 6’2" Eddie Chambers just beat 7’ Alexander Dimitrenko recently. So, these so-called big guys are beatable.

I think Haye facing Valuev would be better. If Haye wins, it could draw more people to the fight with 2 belts/or more on the line. All that talk about Haye not deserving a shot against them could go away.

Another scenario could be Haye beating Valuev and defending his belt against Chambers before going after the brothers.

This is a very winnable fight for Haye. Valuev is one of the slowest fighters I’ve ever seen, and he clearly lost to a shot Evander Holyfield. Haye has a huge speed advantage on his side, but will he be able to carry that legendary power he had at cruiserweight and stop Valuev.

Yep. Khan may improve while still being with Roach, but his chin, even before getting decapitated by Prescott was already weak and unless he becomes Pernell Whitaker it will be a matter of time until he gets into the ring with another big puncher and gets tagged and suffers another knockout loss.

http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_ylt=ArqPw7BeW3uKFphTqXGP07mUxLYF?slug=ap-forrestkilled&prov=ap&type=lgns Vernon Forrest killed in robbery. I never seen his fights, but read about what he’s done. R.I.P Forrest.

Wow. RIP Vernon Forrest. Holy crap what is happening to the boxing world this month? It’s freakin’ ridiculous.

Yeah 3 boxers died this month afaik. Young boxer died recently after a match http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_ylt=AjCZm0plIi94MpbbgiHUA9mUxLYF?slug=ap-nazarethdies&prov=ap&type=lgns

I really hope they nail that wife of his, as I’m pretty positive that rat did it, her story’s changed more times than a baby’s diapers.

RIP Vernon Forrest. Sad at these great fighters can’t enjoy the rest of their life after boxing.

Showtime Tonight, doubleheader:

Timothy Bradley Jr. vs. Nate Campbell & Devon Alexander vs. Junior Witter

This is a huge fight and a must see for all hardcore fight fans.

Both fighters are very similar. Both have the ability to box, but would rather come forward to fight. Both fighters are heavily underestimated and where used as “opponents”, but both came out with the victory. This is going to be a great fight.

Nate Campbell has made a career beating younger undefeated fighters: kid diamond, Juan Diaz, and being the “opponent”. Timothy Bradley is another undefeated younger fighter who is on a hot streak after beating Junior Witter in his backyard of England and beating Kendel Holt. Again, a damn good fight.

Devon Alexander is undefeated and is from St. Louis. He has trained with Corry Spinks, so you know this guy can box his ass off. Another hot prospect in his first big test against Junior Witter of England. Junior Witter has made a career of calling out Ricky Hatton, but was ducked due to his having the style to beat Hatton. They both fight for the vacant title Bradley vacated after beating Witter.

With the upcoming Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Malignaggi on August 22, Amir Khan winning a belt and setting himself up at 140, and the Pacquiao - Hatton fight on the rear-view, the Junior Welterweight division is on the spotlight and is one of the best divisions right now to follow.

Man, I didn’t even know about Vernon Forrest until I read this thread just now. Been out of the loop on a motorcycle trip over the last week. Very, very sad about Forrest. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves. RIP

As for tonight’s fight, I’ll be cheering for Nate Campbell, as always. I love how he’s always the underdog, and always coming out on top. How the hell does that work? haha

Bradley vs Campbell: Once again proving why instant replay needs to be used for decisions in boxing. Bullshit decision.

I can’t believe that they just let that ride. Campbell wasn’t exactly looking great, but I’ve seen him come back from worse beatings to go as far as taking a KO. Either way, there’s no excuse for obvious bullshit decisions. FUCK YOU, CALIFORNIA!

Anyone see the assault in the ring docu with Luis Resto? Really good docu, but sad story. I wish I could punch Panama Lewis right in that ass chin of his.

I haven’t watch the documentary yet, but I’ve read about the story of Panama Lewis from the Payor vs. Arguello fight.

I hate how the ref. tried to say he was right, right after the replay was shown. This should have been a “No Contest”

Formal protests from Nate Campbell’s camp will be brought up to the California state athletic commision. I hope they make the right decision.
